| | Harry Potter lego line discontinued
Despite rumours of a lego video game still persisting, MillionairePlayboy spoke to a representative at the 2009 New York City toy fair who confirmed that there will be no Half-Blood Prince themed sets. Quote:
My sad news to report that there are no plans on producing any new Harry Potter sets. With the films getting darker, it has become very hard to produce kid-friendly sets.
Photos of new products shown at the fair, including action figures and dolls, can be seen here.

Uh, isn't the new film PG...
They did a set for the last film and it was PG-13...
Whatever...Indiana Jones...yeah, all those movies were super-kid friendly. You guys teach your kids about angels whose faces turn into demons and will melt you down to a puddle of goo? Or how about a cult that will set you on fire after pulling your heart out of your chest? Maybe something a little more for the toddlers where you drink some bad water and age super fast while your flesh falls off and you turn to dust.
Anyone see the Lego Vader all falling apart after the apprentice beats the snot out of him?
Kid friendly...what a cart of manure...

Oh. I have to admit I'm a little skeptical about this. I guess it won't affect me, because I hardly ever played with Legos even when I was little. But it doesn't make much sense.

I can't say I really care all too much. It's not like lego's can develop much over time age-wise and character-wise.
All the old lego sets will have to do.
There wouldn't be that much new material in a new batch anyway

Maybe it's just because I don't play with them anymore, but Legos don't seem to be as much of a popular toy these days (with technology what it is and all). While I am sad that there will be no more Harry Potter Lego sets, it was probably in the company's best interest to discontinue the line. Plus, how many kids who play with Legos these days know much about Harry Potter?
Also, please do try to keep the comments SS-appropriate. |

I agree that the argument of "kid-friendly" seems a bit of a stretch, based on other sets they have...but I also see that running out of new set ideas is totally possible. Having said that, I love my Lego Dumbledore keychain. Seriously, if they released a box set of every major charrie in Lego-Keychain form, I'd buy it.

Huh. Well, that's kind of good news for me. Means I'll be able to sell all of mine for lots of $$$$$$$$$ in a few years! if I can find the instruction booklets...
But I totally agree, that is a totally inexcusably dishonest excuse. Legos are the most kid-friendly toy there is these days! They're like, the linkoln logs of the 21st century! How much more kid-friendly does it get than that?! I mean, what's next, discontinuation of the video games? THOSE are 100x worse than the legos! (albeit much more fun and engaging). And anyway, isn't it the kid's parents job deciding what is and is not appropriate for their own kids? This is just as bad a marketing tool being displayed here as that book age banding idea. Honestly... Walks away mumbling under breath*

That's really disappointing. I have at least one Lego set from each film they had Lego sets for and I enjoyed making them even though it didn't take me very long. But still, they were really neat!
