This past weekend, SnitchSeeker caught up with Harry Potter graphic designers Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima at the expo held at A Celebration of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort. We spoke with the pair about their work for both the Japan and Hollywood Wizarding World of Harry Potter parks, their new stationery line and their involvement with the
Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them film.
SnitchSeeker: Have you done any work for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Miraphora Mina: Only some little bits that they needed, because it’s really a replica of the Hogsmeade that’s here [in Orlando]. They have all the assets.
SnitchSeeker: With every park they do something a little different.
Eduardo Lima: I think we might do a couple of things there.
Mira: Well, it might still come to us. Even with Japan there were a few little things we had to add even though, like I said, it was the same park. So we did do a couple of extra things for there that they didn’t have here. There was a weird, wand scroll thing that’s almost like an astrological chart of the story of wands – different woods that are used – sort of like an old Japanese scroll. It’s really nice. But again, it’s in a shop window. It’s really quite small. And I think we’ll probably be doing another wand map for there as well, like they have here for the [interactive] wands.
Eduardo: I think we’re going to do a Celebration print one day as well.
SnitchSeeker: Have you started work on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them yet?
Mira: Not really. We went in to see what will happen, because they’re still developing the script. We’re all just waiting to see what she comes up with.
Eduardo: Nothing has started yet. It’s just very slow. But we are hoping that we are going to be full force very soon.
SnitchSeeker: You recently launched a stationery line. Will there be more available soon?
Mira: We hope so. Basically [the Celebration expo] was an opportunity to launch and see what the reaction would be. It’s been in the park for the last month - but here [at the expo] because of the event, we wanted to see what people like and how well it goes. We want to have it sold in these kinds of places, so we can have some studios in London and here and Japan - and obviously on our websites as well, but it’s better when the audiences are right here. We will be doing more products from now on.
Eduardo: For the online store, I think we’re going to release another set of stationery and more prints, as well. Because we did so many things for the films – we have all the 250 designs – we’re going to keep releasing them slowly.
SnitchSeeker: Where in the Orlando park can people buy them?
Mira: I think they have them in Weasleys’ and in Scribbulus – particularly in Scribbulus because they sell stationery.
SnitchSeeker's interview with Evanna Lynch, who gave her thoughts on the rides at the Wizarding World of the Harry Potter, and even casting for
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, will be online later this week.
