Harry Potter film series to receive special 2011 American Film Institute AFI Award
Nominations for the 2011 AFI Awards have been announced, and the Harry Potter series will be receiving a special award, as it did not fit the AFI's nomination criteria (given it was produced and directed by British filmmakers).

AFI also gave "The Artist" and the "Harry Potter" franchise special awards, recognition that is given to films that don't meet AFI's criteria, most notably that a production must be primarily American- generated.

The American Film Institute Awards records each year's most outstanding achievements in film, television and other forms of the moving image arts. The honorees-only gathering is the only form of national recognition that honors the creative ensemble as a whole — those in front of and behind the camera — and is popular with talent because there are no winners or losers.
The awards will be handed out at a private luncheon on January 13, 2012 in Los Angeles.
There were some Americans involved in the Harry Potter - John Williams. He is responsible for the original theme & Chris Columbus, American, is involved with the HP production. For them, I am grateful for being a part and having a memorable hand in the HP series. Yay! They deserved to be recognized for it!
There is also Steve loves for screenwriting BUT he rewrote everything so I am iffy with his role.
