| | |  Half-Blood Prince will open in IMAX next summer
On the heels of yesterday's announcement about the delayed release of Half-Blood Prince (which will now come out on July 17th 2009) the IMAX corporation have announced that they intend to release it in their cinemas in the summer accordingly. Quote:
On the bright side, Richard Gelfond, co-chief executive of Imax, noted that when "Harry Potter" does open next summer, it will appear in close to 100 of its new digital theaters, as opposed to about 40 estimated to be in operation by November. "It's a better revenue opportunity for us at that point," he said.
IMAX still plans to release part of the "Harry Potter" film in 3-D.
The company have also said they are currently exploring the options for an alternative. | |

At first I was mad about the date, but as I started to think about it, it made sense to me. I'm not mad anymore, and it'll give people more chances to see it. Me and my friends were going to watch it in IMAX at midnight on Thursday, and then we're going to watch it all day Saturday. BUT, it's also the holiday season, and maybe people will be traveling and saving money for christmas and stuff. So, I'm ok with this decision, and we still have Twilight and other movies to see, not to mention the Beedle book in Dec!

I saw OOTP in Imax and was impressed, of course, with all the goods they were selling along with the popcorn, candy and soda....Seriously, all the imax theatres seem to have exclusive deals to sell merchandise that you certainly could not purchase in an ordinary cinema/theatre....But the seats are so uncomfortable....I will see HBP in Imax and regular if only to buy up the trading cards in collectible tins or whatever goods they will be selling! I like my paraphenalia that is for sure....

Besides, IMAX isn't that expensive, if you're going after matinee time, you might as well hit the IMAX, the prices are so close together. (here - matinee is $6.50, and after that it's $9.00 a ticket. IMAX is only $10....so tell me where WB will make the best money - a non-matinee regular theatre seat).
