| | Confirmed: Half-Blood Prince IMAX release date delayed (UPDATED)
It is being reported that the IMAX release of Half-Blood Prince has been delayed by two weeks, to July 29th; it was originally set to be shown in IMAX theatres the same day as conventional theatres in the US: July, 15, 2009. The reason for the change of date is as follows: Quote:
The film will open in 35mm theaters on the 15th; however, it will not open in IMAX theaters until the 29th. Basically what happened is IMAX Corporation signed a contract with Paramount guaranteeing them a 4 week exclusive window if they filmed parts of Transformers 2 with IMAX cameras onto IMAX film (something that is quite a bit more expensive). Unfortunately that was back when Harry Potter was due to open November 2008 and when Warner Bros. pushed back the opening date Paramount was not willing to renegotiate the contract it had signed with IMAX.
We are currently awaiting confirmation from Warner Bros. on this news, so please stay tuned for further developments.
Source: Harry Potter Fan Zone UPDATE: The Wall Street Journal has confirmed the news, adding that one IMAX in New York and another in Los Angeles, will play the film from July 14th. Thanks to HPANA for the link! |

Awww! sad to know about that...
But atleast, it give me more time to save money for watching it at the IMAX theater, because i know IMAX is more expensive than the regular theater houses.
And still, i will watch it @ the first day (premiere) of its release at any kind of cinemas.

US IMAX easily 12-15 dollars. I imagine it also matters if it's a matinee, I'm trying to remember when I saw "The Dark Knight" on IMAX, if memory serves correct it was $14...but this was in Connecticut. NYC/LA/Chicago have to be more expensive.

IMAX films in my city are $10-$13 a ticket, depending on the time and day.
That's not too far off from regular theaters here, but I never go anyway. I'm happy with just the regular showing.

| its time to choose between what is right and what is easy oh well..at least its still being released on July 15 in regular theatres, at least we can watch it and then go see it in Imax after, i for one know ill be going to see this movie multiple times in theatres anyways lol
i think its good of imax to keep to their contract, maybe warner bros will learn a lesson from changing release dates lol |

*essplodes*
What happened, WB? First all the changes to the plots of the movies, then cutting out important plot points, then pushing back the date of release, THEN taking away Slughorn's 'stache... and now THIS?!
I am going to have to write a very stern letter to the Queen about this. *huffs*

That sucks! But it's Warner Bros. fault for not making up their freakin' mind about the release date. But I wasn't going to see it in Imax on July 15th anyways. I still want to see the Imax Version, but I can wait until July 29th.

big oops on their part, huh? They may lose alot of $ because people will likely see it once, twice, at a regular theatre and, in this economy, forego the pricier admission to Imax because they would have already seen the movie several times! The only reason I bother seeing the movie at the Imax is because they sell Harry Potter merchandise at the concession stand that you dont find anywhere else. For OOTP, i bought several collector's tin boxes filled with trading cards. I never saw them anywhere else, except on eBay.
