Wizard City:

Several News Sources have been announcing that the next Harry Potter movie will be just one and not two like many people were speculating. Well, now we have some more information from CBBC Newsround saying that according to many sources close to script-writer Steve Kloves, the same one who adapted the first three books into movies, has been asked to make it just 2-1/2 hours long.

WB also said that they want to keep the present cast for the next movie, but that's going to be up to the actors.

The only questions here are: Can they make a 700 pages long book into a 2-1/2 movie?, and if they do, Is it going to be any good,? Well, I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

Eek.. I hope it won't be that short. Honestly, just make it as long as they need to! About 97% of the people in the world are super Harry Potter fanatics and wouldn't mind sitting in a theater for 3 or 4 hours.. (I know I wouldn't).

I totally agree with you Dracos1Gal I mean would it really be any good - it needs to be AT least 3 hrs rite? Two movies might be worse though if they didn't come out at the same time!!!

How can they do it? I mean, personally, I could watch GoF for 4 hours or more............no problem!!!!!!

But they are going to have to cut out more than half the book!!!!!! Somebody stop them!! aaahhhh!!!! :o

(ok ok........so I love HP to the point of madness!)

Well maybe they wont have to cut out half of the book. Maybe they will find some way to fit everything in the 2 and a half hour slot. Who knows??

I, like so many other fans. I am OUTRAGED at Warner Bros's pre-production actions for Goblet of Fire. It would be an insult to the source material as many things would be cut out. I have created a list of what I FEAR could be cut out:
The Yule Ball
Giggling Girls before Yule Ball
Discussion in antechamber on Halloween
Pre-Task worries and discoveries such as the egg and dragons.
The Articles of Rita Skeeter
The Riddle House
The Argument between Fudge and Dumbledore at climax
Discussion with Padfoot OR/ AND The Pensieve
Ludo's betting
End of friendship between Harry and Ron
Character complexity or development
Voldemort's talk to Death Eaters that explains the past and forshadows the future
Hagrid being Half-Giant and Professor Grubbly-Plank
Hermione's attempts to free house-elves
Malfoy being turned into a ferret.
And many more I can't remember (I haven't read GoF for five months)
As you can see, the characters would lose their "main problem" this year. I wouldn't be surprised if Rita Skeeter would be cut out all together as she is mostly in for "comic-relief subplot". The Quidditch World Cup might be cut out along with the Dark Mark, but those two sequences could easily be fitted into a time of sixteen-twenty minutes.

Clearly, if GoF was 150 minutes, it could be shown more daily, resulting the W.B execs to be swimming in more dough. Honestly, Warner Bros. is ruining the books we love for the money, and I will not tolerate such actions (I feel personally involved in this, thank you for asking). I am now going to waste $10 in stamps for mail I will send to Warner Bros, threatening disloyalty to the movie.

That's right disloyalty, disloyalty to the movies, if two years from now in the newspaper movie review t has the time of Goblet of Fire which reads: 2 hrs, 3O min. The movie will just be bull**** compared to books and it will be the end of the franchise. At lest they could make the movie three hours and forty-five minutes.

    :arg: :arg: :arg:    I WILL NOT GO TO GOBLET OF FIRE UNLESS IT IS OVER THREE-AND-A-QUARTER HOURS LONG!

Chamber of Secrets is 341 pages long and had a 160 minute long movie. Goblet of Fire is 734 pages long and has to be around the same time length while it should be really over FIVE HOURS! FIVE HOURS, NOT TWO-AND-A-HALF!

How can Goblet of Fire possibly be only 2 &1/2 hrs long when Titantic is longer? Are they worried that nobody will go see it? Because I defiently will the movie could be 10 hrs long and i would go see it at least 3 times! I dont care how long it is but if they are going to cut out half the book then they might at as well not make the movie because they are going to ruin it anyway.
Now, as a diehard Harry fan, I am outraged at this news. I dont understand how a 734pg book will only be a 2 &1/2 hr long movie. It really makes no sense!!! I bet when Order of the Phoenix comes out for the movies too, they will make it 2 & 1/2 hrs long too! And that book is even longer. They cant continue to do this to us!.

I dunno how they'll make in 21/2 hrs. It should atleast b 3 or 3 1/2 hrs. I dont want em to cut out 2 much at the same time i don't think they'll cut out 1/2 the book . I totally agree wi Guest_Snivellus - I don't want em to cut the gigling girls n all !!

that really sucks. I mean from the standpoint of a person who likes to read more than watch movies I think that movies 1 and 2 werent that good. Only because the first two seem to be seperate stories and seem almost but not entirely irrevelent to the rest of the series. Where as three four and five begin to tie together pickup excactly where the last left off. so if they leave too much out of three or four the rest are ruined. but the way 1 and 2 were butchered i dont see where the suprise is.

They could fit the 4th movie into 3 and 1/4 hours time slot while include major plotline, but 2 and 1/2 hours is just too short...

I really hope they don't do that. It would be terrible, because of all the things the would have to cut out they should just do it like the matrix in to seperate movies, for one thing the fans would love that, because they would have to cut out so much. But if the WB thinks about it two movies would make sense from a business point of view because they could double their money because all the HP fans would certainly go to two movies.

2 1/2 hours long? That's like 10 seconds per page. . .however I did always feel that there was a lot of unneccessary filler in GoF.

A 2 1/2 hour-long movie, however, could not possibly fit everything from GoF into the screenplay. But maybe Steve Kloves will take this interesting dillemma he has and concentrate on focussing on a few major parts of the novel. Even with 75% of the novel cut out, GoF would still be enormously great movie material, and I'm pretty sure that Steve Kloves and the director (was his name Newell, who's directing the 4th?) could either create a suspenseful cinematic masterpiece that just barely follows the book's plotline or a horrible movie that even tries to squeeze just the major plotline into the extremely short plotline. Either way, I'm sad to say, us fans would probably be disappointed at what they did not include.

what only 2 i/2 hour that book is huge i don't even want to think about how much stuff they would need to cut out the 4th book id double of the third. i wouldn't mind if they spilt it up and had two movies that each went for 3 hours its better instead a movie with tons of things cut out.

Many Of the rumors that are stated are that the movie is to be divided into 2 parts.
I was most pleased although to fine that these are just rumours, and that the Harry Potter Goblet of Fire is to be made 2 and 1/2 hours long.
being A large Harry Potter Fan Myself I can say honestly that I believe most people won't care about the movie being 2 and 1/2 hours long! It's an international best seller! Why would anyone have an objection to it!
