| | Emma Watson in Daily Mail interview & photoshoot (UPDATED)
Emma Watson has participated in a new interview and photoshoot with the Daily Mail.
Emma starts by talking about acting, and how she changed her mind about her career several times, as well as discussing growing older in the spotlight. Quote:
‘It was pretty tough turning 18,’ she says. ‘I realised that overnight I’d become fair game. I had a party in town and the pavements were just knee-deep with photographers trying to get a shot of me looking drunk, which wasn’t going to happen. I don’t have to drink to have a good time. The sickest part was when one photographer lay down on the floor to get a shot up my skirt.
‘The night it was legal for them to do it, they did it. I woke up the next day and felt completely violated by it all. That’s not something I want in my life. I just kept thinking that if it had happened a day earlier people would have sued their backsides off.
‘I find this whole thing about being 18 and everyone expecting me to be this object… I find the whole concept of being ‘sexy’ embarrassing and confusing. If I do a photo-shoot people desperately want to change me – dye my hair blonder, pluck my eyebrows, give me a fringe. Then there’s the choice of clothes. I know everyone wants a picture of me in a mini-skirt. But that’s not me. I feel uncomfortable. I’d never go out in a mini-skirt. It’s nothing to do with protecting the Hermione image. I wouldn’t do that.
‘Personally, I don’t actually think it’s even that sexy. What’s sexy about saying, “I’m here with my boobs out and a short skirt… have a look at everything I’ve got”? My idea of sexy is that less is more. The less you reveal the more people can wonder.’
Emma insists that she hasn't made her mind up about which university she will attend but is adament that is possible to continue her education and finish filming the Potter movies at the same time. She also talks about her family and the friendships that have helped her come to terms with being famous. Quote:
‘I’ve had the same group of friends since junior school and it has saved me. People I’ve dated have been friends of friends. I’d be unlikely to go out with anyone famous. I just wouldn’t.
‘I don’t consider myself to be a celebrity. I don’t fit that mould. I worry that people have expectations of me being someone I’m not. I’m just finding myself and trying to live as normally as possible and be as normal as possible.
'I’ve never seen a “good behaviour” clause (she refers to her reported Warner contract) – I honestly think that’s a myth – but I actually wouldn’t ever need one. It’s just not necessary. I’m not tempted by parties or drugs. I don’t actually like being drunk, particularly in public. But I do understand why people get sucked into a party lifestyle. I can see how it happens so I’d never criticise someone who gets into all that. It can get pretty tough. But you have choices in life. If I want to lead as private and as normal a life as possible I just can’t go there. So I don’t.’
She grins. ‘Daniel (Radcliffe), Rupert (Grint) and me have been incredibly protected doing the Harry Potter movies. There seems to be this feeling that all of us were bursting to break out of these images we had created but that’s never been the case. We all share the same view. None of us court celebrity, none of us want to be part of the game.’
Emma also discusses her first post-Potter role in Napoleon and Betsy. Quote:
‘It’s a strong relationship but it’s not sexual,’ she says. ‘It’s very complex. A touching of souls. She was a very young girl and he was this older, incredible man. I read the script two years ago and just knew this was the perfect film for me.’
Eight new photos of Emma from the photoshoot can be seen here and below; UPDATE: A further two new images can be found in the print version of the Mail on Sunday magazine, Live, and are viewable online here and below;

oohh Emma looks good!! Great interview too. Lucky for us that she's decided that acting is her future at moment although she's obviously sorted out a few things about her future during the last year or so!

Emma is the kind of role model I want for my 13 year old niece. She is grounded, unselfish, and makes good choices. I am more and more impressed w. this kid the more I see her. I guess we cant call her a kid anymore seeing as 19 is right around the corner. Emma is becoming a beautiful young woman, with an inner beauty that matches her outer beauty. Go Emma! |

| Hocus Pocus * HP Newsoholic WOW!!! That's probably the most in depth interview I've ever heard from Emma. WOW. That was amazing. Good for her. I hope she stays that way; I don't doubt it. |

This was a really good interview, but I have to say it confuses me a bit with some of those pictures from the Vs. shoot.

Great interview with brilliant images. That "photographer" Emma refers to is just wrong. I'm happy to hear that she is a down to earth person

so what defines a 'mini skirt' or dress? the smart black number looks 'mini' to me, as does any thing two or three inches above the knee. or am i old-fashioned. and as for trying to 'sex up' emma, isn't that what some of the last few photo shoots being trying ...and failing in my opinion, to do?! Sex appeal in again my opinion has nothing to do with trying to 'smoulder', that looks more as if the person is constipated. It's the essence of the person, it's their joy and energy and Emma (and Dan) have that in spades. Thats what should be celebrated .

really. Emma needs to look back at some of her previous photo-shoots. Just the other day we saw the Vs spread and if the photos of Emma with the doll and Emma with the mirror showing her underwear isn't an attempt at 'sexing up' then i don't know what is. She is also falling into the trap of many actresses with nothing really to promote... the photo spread, which ironically is in the 'male' colour supplement of the Mail on Sunday. I like Emma, but she's saying one thing and wearing another.

When you to a photospread you don't choose your clothes most of the time. You wear what they tell you, pose how they want you to, and THEY do your hair and makeup how they want it to look.
Anyways .. I, personally, loved her interview. She seems really focused on school.
