| | David Yates talks Deathly Hallows split & new Snatcher sequence
The third day of LA Times' Hero Complex preview for Half-Blood Prince interviews director David Yates, who spoke just yesterday about filming new camping scenes for Deathly Hallows, during which Harry, Ron, and Hermione were being chased by Snatchers in the forest. Quote:
"We're here in the forest, we've just finished the scene where Harry, Hermione and Ron are captured by the Snatchers after being chased through the woods. The Snatchers are brutal and scary but they aren't the most intelligent of creatures. They're trying to figure out exactly who it is they've caught."
David talks about his three young stars, Dan Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, complimenting them immensely for their talent and level-headedness throughout the series: Quote:
"Absolutely, I think you're correct. It was an extraordinary bit of judgment, bringing those three in. They have been so stable and level-headed and in working with them I continue to be impressed by how keen they are to challenge themselves and to try new things to bring out the characters that they portray. They have become these engaging ambassadors for the films and the story. They have been endlessly enthusiastic. They want to see how good they can be in these roles. They haven't had their heads turned, either, by the fame and attention or any of it, which is wonderful for everyone to see."
He voices his disappointment with the Half-Blood Prince eight-month delay and the disadvantages of having the film not yet released: Quote:
"It was not something I warmed to initially. At the time, I was so adrenalized, I was so caught up in the process of getting the film in on deadline and making the movie on a certain schedule, and then the decision to delay was a huge anticlimax. There was a huge sense of disappointment, I must say. We finished the film a year ago, so it's very strange to go all this time without seeing it with an audience, which is what you make it for. But the studio made their case for the move and I came to understand and appreciate their reasons and they are very good at delivering these movies and understanding the process of making a film successful and I think it wise to defer to their judgment."
"You find yourself fiddling with it much more in post-production, naturally. There's a good and bad to that. You could keep adjusting things for the rest of your life if you allowed yourself to do that. That can be unhealthy and at some point you have to say, 'Here is the cut-off date.' I know fans are eager to see it and it's been interesting for us to come back to it now, even as we are busy filming the next installments."
As for the advantages in having two Deathly Hallows films and not one, David states: Quote:
"I will get the benefit of two budgets, the running time of two films and all the resources that brings with it to tell this huge adventure; more time, more money, more special effects. There are always things that are lost when you adapt a book to a film. With two films, much less will be lost."
David finishes the interview by discussing the Deathly Hallows split, admitting that the first part will end with a cliffhanger: Quote:
"Yes, I think we have," he said. "Things can change when you edit, of course, but the idea now is that it will be not long after the sequence that we are filming here today. That's what we're experimenting with. We've had three or four different ideas about where to cut off the seventh film. Traditionally, the movies have ended with a death or a bereavement, some sort of passage or arrival. This time we think we will end with more a cliffhanger. Again, though, that's the thought as of this moment."

Did you guys read this? A cliffhanger. Not after a death. This means to me that they are going to split the film with Harry and Ron trapped in the basement of the Malfoy's with Hermione screaming through the floor. You have got to be kidding me.

You have got to be kidding me. that's a good scene, when i read the book i was worried she might die, Rowling said she killed off characters!Terrible to cut it for a film, and watch the continuation 6 months later.

Hmm.. it could be where Hermione's being tortured. But I think I would absolutely DIE if they did it there - I would just want to see more. Oh gosh, the bad thing about the split is the wait (for the next part). I'll go crazy....

and that DH split is veeerry interesting I think it can be forgiven because, when you view DH1 as a film, you realise there really isn't much action. Plus, we've all seen what the Snatchers look like in real life Quote:

I can just see it now. Close-up shots of Harry, Ron, Ollivander, Dean, Griphook and Luna and then fade to black...with Hermione screaming. Chilling stuff.

The less lost, the better!
And, I love the idea of a cliffhanger for DH1! The great suspense will leave the "movie watchers" guessing and yearning for more! A lot of my friends are just "movie watchers" and haven't read the books. It'll be fun not telling them what happens next |

yes, if those snatchers, not the troll-like ones in the book, were chasing me, i must admit that i would not really be running from them, more like a brisk walk...or a saunter....

What about when harrys getting the sword and he gets trapped in the water and everything goes bleary and harry could see a hand and like whisper "Voldermort" or something like cliffhanger and then fade out.
It will be intresting to see how they finish it, and even though malfoy manor would be a fabulous ending to part 1 it's a lot to fit into one part.
I think somewhere around godric's hollow perhaps when harry and hermione get in that huge fight with voldy and they jump out of the window and they dissaperate but it could like flicker from all different pionts of view and there could be a scream by voldy!
Its too hard!!!

Im quite glad that movie was split.. as soon as a read the book i did have a feeling that maybe they should split the movie.. like they did with Lord of The Rings because there was so much in the DH that none of it could be lost!! everything is needed for the plot
I simple can not wait its torture!!! xxxx
I think it would be good to end it when Ron comes back into the tent after he rescues harry!! even though its not really a cliff hanger but they should i think end it on a happy note and end it with all three main characters... myabe hermione could slap him and that when it ends haha!! x

I said to my sister that they might cut it of at Malfoy Manor ages ago and she said they wouldn't 'cause that isnt the middle. But I supose, more happens after Malfoy Manor than before it.
