Daniel Radcliffe credits Maggie Smith for Harry Potter role, talks Woman in Black
Daniel Radcliffe surprised a crowd of hundreds of aspiring reporters at the 2011 Fall Journalism Education Association convention in November, where he answered questions about his upcoming supernatural thriller, The Woman in Black, his participating in the Harry Potter series and portrayal of the lead of the series, and how much his acting career impacted his life. Dan revealed that The Woman in Black is about an hour and a half long, and has about a 20 minute period during which there is no dialogue, but a suspenseful sequence at Eel Marsh House where his character Arthur Kipps searches for the truth. All of that and more, where Dan also confessed he'd take on a career in archeology had he not gone into filmmaking and acting, can be viewed below; The Woman in Black is set for a February 2012 release.
Dan revealed that he credited Maggie Smith for landing him the role of Harry Potter, as the pair worked prior to that on David Copperfield. When Maggie was cast as McGonagall, she recommended Dan to director Chris Columbus to play the titular role.
In the final video and at the end of the discussion, Dan did a bit of word association, after an in-depth and open chat about how much he enjoyed working in the Harry Potter series. That can be read here.
