Nestled comfortably between the stairwells to the boys' dormitory away from the hustle and bustle of the central part of the common room is the reading room - complete with a long bending book case that takes up the entire back wall. You'll find several desks and chairs arranged comfortably to assist you with your homework and studying. For those that are looking for a quiet place to read and unwind, there are a few beanbag chairs strung about. Whether you're working on a project, completing some homework or simply want to relax and read, you've come to the right place.
As you enter, however, your eye is not drawn to the inviting looking study tables or bean bag chairs, but rather a large boulder that is situated off to the right of the entrance. If you go around to the back of it, you will see a gigantic pair of googly eyes glued on as well as a smiley face painted with white paint. Lions, say hello to the Gryffindor common room pet - Pride. He is large enough for any lions looking to climb upon and is especially useful for those wanting to brush up on looking down or working on their ROARS. Just be sure to treat Pride with respect and the occasional pat every now and again.
All in all, it is the perfect place to sit with friends and tackle any homework that comes your way. The most important thing to remember is not to stress. Remember, help is always given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it. So if you need advice, ask a peer or a professor, or even a portrait, who knows where you will find your answers! The portraits in this part of the common room may be especially helpful to you as they are all former Heads of Gryffindor House. From Godric Gryffindor to Uric Oapley to Minerva McGonagall to Seren Bentley... they are all here! Even this one stern looking woman whose portrait is just off to the right of the bookcase who may just reveal a secret to you if you say the right things to her.
Gryffindor Common Room design is based on the drawings by Whisperwings
Dalia was... a little put out. She knew she'd have to come back to Hogwarts after the holidays, but she hadn't really been ready. She'd only been here for the first couple of weeks before she'd been ill and had to go home, and it hadn't been enough time to make friends. Soooo... here she was.
She'd... make friends later. She just wanted to settle in right now. So she grabbed a book from her trunk and explored the common room a little more, looking for the little room she'd remembered. With the books....
Ah. Perfect. It was nicer than she'd remembered actually, and deserted. Dalia walked into the room, patting the boulder gently before settling down in a beanbag chair. "Maybe this in't so bad, Calcifer." she said, picking the little grey and white rat out of her pocket and settling him on her lap. The lazy little creature curled up and fell asleep almost instantly... and Dalia opened her book.

Alice walked into the reading room and plopped her books down and sat down. She might have been letting her homework build up since coming back from Christmas. Okay. She really had. But She was doing it now and that had to count for something! The redhead opened the book when she spotted the other girl's rat.
"He's so cute! Wait is your rat a He? I'd hate to have said the wrong thing." She smiled and was glad for a distraction from her books. School wasn't fun in her opinion. The school was, yes.. but the rest of this yeah, gross. "I'm Alice.. Who are you?" Because that was the best way to greet another person. But Alice hadn't seen this person around just yet.. She needed to meet ALL THE HUMANS.

Dalia had only got a few pages in before Calcifer started trying to chew the edge of her book. She lazily pushed him away a few times before picking him up and setting her book down beside her. She hadn't even noticed the other girl walked in until.. "Oh, yeah. He's a dude." She pat the little rat on the head. "His name is Calcifer." she said, holding him out for the girl to hold.
"'N I'm Dalia." she added. Maybe new friends didn't have to wait. Destiny finds you and all that. Her mum would have something to say about it that's for sure.

Alice beamed and held her hands out, taking the rat. "He's so cuuuuuuute!" She exclaimed and started cooing at the creature in her hands. "I have a pet. But He's a Raven. His name's Diaval." She didn't always carry him around in the event like this where someone had a smaller pet that might be scared of a bird.
"Nice to meet you, Dalia! I don't think i've seen you around before. Did you transfer here?" Her blue eyes looking up from the rat to the girl he belonged to.

Nodding, Dalia searched her pockets for treats, but the cheeky rat seemed to have already found and eaten everything on her person. "Yeah, he gets everywhere though, he's an explorer." she said, watching Calcifer try to explore the other girl.
"Sort of. From Beauxbatons." Dal tapped her fingers on the cover of her book. "At the beginning of the year, but I got sick so I had to go home for a bit.." She wasn't going to go into it. The exact details were a little... unpleasant. She'd had a tutor to catch her up on everything though, so she hadn't quite escaped school work. "All fine now though." she added, her own eyes still glued to Calcifer's cheeky little tail as it disappeared up Alice's sleeve.

"I bet that could get a tiny guy like him in a lot of trouble." The school was home to other pets such as Cats, Snakes and Ferrets. So having a wandering rat could seem a bit worrisome. "Did you like it there?" Beauxbatons she meant. Alice Mother was French and she'd heard a bit here and there about the school. But she lived in Scotland, So Hogwarts it was.
"I'm glad you're all better. Now we can be friends." She smiled and was about to say something when she interrupted herself to BURST into laughter. Feeling Calcifer crawl up her sleeve tickled something fierce. She wiggled and squirmed and tried to find the little guy and pull him out of her robes. "He really does like to explore!"

"Yeah he's... a bit of a genius though. I think. Always gets out of situations." Rats were clever you know, and Dal sometimes swore Cal could understand her. They had a connection. Probably because she was the one who fed him... and he was getting a little chubby.
Friends? It was that easy in England? Sweet. "Me too." And then she saw the little lump that was Calcifer make his way up Alice's sleeve. "Calcifeeerrr.." she cooed, holding her hand out for him to crawl into when he ran back down the sleeve. "Yeah he's a coquin." she said, repeating what her mother always said. Her mum didn't much like Calcifer, but he'd been the only way Dalia would agree to move to Hogwarts..

"I think Animals are much smarter than people give them credit for!" She was very passionate about this. It was very annoying whenever older people, usually adults acted as if animals were stupid. Alice Lupin knew better. "Like my bird, Diaval. He's brilliant, obeys commands.. well sometimes. But he doesn't mess with other people's pets for the most part."
Alice giggled and squirmed a little more as Calcifer exited her sleeve. "At least He isn't a boring pet." Because who wanted that? Like a Fish? Lame. "What's Coquin mean?" The redhead was positive she hadn't heard that word before.

"Yeah probably. Especially the ones smart enough to train humans to feed them." Imagine that? Just leaving your care to a whole different species. You'd have so much time on your hands. Dal thought animals were probably even smarter than humans sometimes... Though, with some people, that didn't seem too difficult.
Dalia nodded, letting Calcifer run up to her shoulder and sit in her hair. He wasn't boring. Except when he was asleep, which was quite a lot actually. Dal was starting to realise that rats were pretty lazy. "Oh... um... sort of... trouble maker?" She wasn't thaaat sure... "Rascal. I think." Yeah, that sounded right.

Noelle had made her a spot in the reading room. She had about three books scattered around her and one in her lap. All thoughts were off the others in the room and completely on the books in front of her.
Animagus
Noelle was awfully curious about how to become one. She'd talked to her big sister on multiple occasions about it due to her going through the process. But now, she wanted to learn all she could. That way, maybe she could learn as well.
How cool would it be to be an auror one day with the ability to transform?
Spencer been reading up on advance spells, he was curious as to what they did, although being a second year he wasn't able to do much, but no harm in learning early right? Besides if he wanted to be an Auror someday he had to be at the top of his game, not many now thirteen year olds knew what they wanted to be, but Spencer came from a long line of Aurors, so he always wanted to be one. Spencer been reading a lot of books lately on curses, hexes as well as charms and other stuff, he really wanted to make good grades. Although he did make good grades, he did have to do away with causing trouble, something he never was good at. Spencer was very much a troublemaker, and has been since he could remember, but no harm of having a couple of detentions right?
Spencer carried his books in his book bag, and headed towards his favorite corner of the reading room, and took a seat before getting out his books. Among him he had four books, a book on advance spells and the other two were on hexes and curses, while the last one was on charms. He had to say, he was learning a lot due to these books, and he was getting better at dueling and muggle fighting and self defense/karate. He wasn't the pruney boy he was, he was more leaner and gotten some muscles on him, which had girls all over him.

Curiosity hadn’t been what had drawn the second year over to the reading room…no, it was much more simple than that. She had seen Noelle walk and needed to talk to her it was absolutely imperative and well, she trusted her. Trusted that no one would find this information out because well, Noelle was awesome. Seriously she was someone that Mel never wanted to fall out of touch with. Walking over toward her the little Gryffindor flopped down in front of the older girl.
“Hey buttercup…don’t ask I just felt like saying it” she muttered at the end but still grinned at the older girl. “Sooooooo how…um…” and cue the early onset blushing. “how did you know you liked Noah?” She finally just blurted out and couldn’t even make eye contact with her…gosh this was so nerve-wracking.

Engrossed in her animagus book, she was surprised to hear footsteps coming into the reading room. It wasn't a very well trafficked spot so Noelle hearing them made her look up. Who she spotted made her wince a bit. Spencer
They hadn't ended on good terms from what she remembered. She glanced at him as he sat down. She would wait until he acknowledged her. Then she would wave. She didn't know how to act around him.
But she didn't have long to think about that before another set of footsteps came into play. Mel. Noelle grinned at her younger friend. Buttercup? She wasn't going to ask but it sounded like a country term and that was right up her alley since she was a country girl.
"How did I know I liked Noah?" Where was this going. Noelle blushes and wiggled in her seat, shutting the animagi book. "Well, I think everyone is different. Like with Sabbie... I grew to like him. With Noah, it was instant but I had pushed it aside because of my feelings for Sabbie. Why? Who do you like?" Because that would be the number one reason she was asking right?

Spencer was reading in his favorite corner and looked up as he seen Noelle Summers sitting to far from him, he remembered that they didn't end on good, although he tried to forget about her and Hope he couldn't no matter how hard he tried. Although that was all in the past, he was dating Athena and was actually happy, something he didn't think will happen after him and Hope broken up. But Athena was his childhood best friend, and you know what they say, best friends make the best boyfriend /girlfriend. Which was true, they been dating for a year now almost and Spencer was in love with Athena, and was hoping their relationship will last a long time.
He looked at Noelle and waved at her before smiling sheepishly at her. "Hey Noey long time no see or talk, how are you! "Spencer asked her. He had seen her at the same place he took his karate classes, so he wondered if she took karate, he was curious to find out. Spencer changed alot since they last seen each other, he was more mature and grown up, weird how life makes you grow up. Although he was only a second year, he was now thirteen and a teenager, he was no longer a kid.
He went back to reading his book at the sight of a girl who appeared to be her friend talking to her, he didn't want to bug them, not when they were talking. He flipped the page of his book before reading up more on advance spells, which he was very interested in learning more about them, but he loved Defense Against the Dark Arts it was his favorite class.

When Melbourne looked around again she blushed slightly as she realized that they weren’t alone…she had been asking about feelings in front of a boy – a boy that very well could know exactly which people she was referring to. Still…exhaling she just relaxed slightly as did it really matter if he knew or other people knew? “Well…there’s the thing I do like both the people I told you about” Mel admitted with a little sigh before adding. “The hufflepuff friend Carl…he’s great…but” she paused, and looked down at the ground.
“I…my friend also likes him but I don’t want to be pushy about it? B-because well…she really likes Tenacius and he’s my best friend but I’ve well” she shrugged “sort of had a bit of a crush on him since I met him when I was like four or five?” She sighed and sat down there.
“And I kind of don’t want to like anyone…but Carl’s so nice and well Tenacius he’s Ace” she was blushing now of course as she always did when she spoke about crushes.

Oh, he was speaking. Phew. Good. Because Noelle was awful at pretending people didnt exist. She did NOT want to do that. Letting out a breath of relief she waved to him. She smiled and started to speak but then noticed that Mel was going off a mile a minute. okay. She would speak with Spence later. She needed to concentrate on the crsis that was going on with Mel.
Boys.
Love/hate relationship there.
Noelle listened to Mel trying to decipher what she was saying. Was it her or was Mel talking extremely fast? Carl and Tenacious. but Tenacious seemed to e liked by two people? Haddie included. Hmm...
"So is there someone you like more or...?" Liking two boys at the same time was a nasty thing. Noelle knew. She had that problem and it haadnt ended well. Well.... /now/ things were good but before.... not so much.
