In a gloomy cellar kitchen, a disparate group of people were listening to a scottish woman speak. She was interrupted by a low, hoarse voice, which at that moment was more of a growl.
“Umbridge?”
“That is what I said Remus.”
“Teaching Defence?”
“Yes.”
The man with the greying hair stood up so suddenly, so violently, that his chair fell to the ground with a clatter. He stalked from the room, slamming the door.
“Was there really any need for that?” The woman’s clipped tones followed him into the hall.
“She’s dangerous Minerva and Remus knows that more than most.”

Arthur shouted. “You, boy!”
“Ernie!”
“Yes, Ernie, drive them towards the Willow!”
Arthur watched as the students around him sent waves of spells at the Death Eaters, who were merciless in their response.
The tree whipped wildly in the in the night air, as though it was angered by the battle below. One branch slammed into the ground lethally, causing the fighters to scatter. As it rose back into the air Arthur saw a crushed figure in the grass. For one heart stopping moment it he thought was Ernie.
“It’s alright Mr Weasley! It’s one of them!” Ernie called out.

Hestia Jones watched as Remus avoided looking at Tonks. She stared at him forlornly. Without her trademark bright hair, she looked positively dowdy. As the meeting ended, Hestia caught up with Remus, who seemed desperate to escape.
“I hope you know what you’re doing.” Hestia told him quietly.
“What are you talking about?” His tone was brittle.
“Tonks. Remus I’ve watched you mooch around for years. And I’ve watched you with her. You were happy.”
A shadow passed over Remus’ face.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“We both know what I’m talking about. You just won’t admit it.”

“No.”
“Remus, just take it.” James pushed the bag of gold across the table. Remus pushed it back. James ran his hands through his bird’s nest hair.
“You are so stubborn Remus, it’s like you are allergic to letting me help you!”
“I don’t want your char-”
“It’s not charity or pity Remus! I’ve got more than I could ever need and I want to share it with you, cos you’re my mate.”
Remus sighed and conceded defeat. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome mate.”

Edgar Bones dropped into a chair in Dumbledore’s office.
“Albus, we have a problem.”
“Edgar, we have many problems. Would you care to narrow it down to one in particular?”
Edgar closed his eyes and his hand over his tired face. “It’s Caradoc, no-one has seen or heard from him in three weeks. I’ve looked in all the likely places.” He sighed. “I’ve looked in all the unlikely places as well, to be honest.”
Albus frowned deeply. “That is deeply disturbing. He was tracking Dolohov. He contacted me via patronus. He was convinced that it was time to act.”

Benjy Fenwick and Dorcas Meadows were back to back, defending themselves against a vicious attack by a group of masked Death Eaters. They had tried to apparate away but couldn’t.
The Death Eaters had backed the pair of the against a wall. The situation looked grave, they seemed to be trapped with no way out.
The pair raised their wands. In quick succession, Benjy caused the Death Eaters to topple like dominoes while Dorcas shouted “Portus!”
The brick on the ground glowed with a familiar blue light and she grabbed it. Benjy put his hand on it just in time.

Silence fell over the table. Every eye was on Lilly. She in turn was glaring at Sirius.
“Snappish much? What did I do?” He asked innocently.
“You know exactly what you did! I’m sick of your childish behaviour!”
He frowned, unable to think of anything that he might have done to annoy her. “Last week you said my childish behaviour was why you loved me.” He shot back at her.
“Yes well, times change!”
Her hand rested on her newly pregnant belly.

“Molly, the boy’s got to see it sometime, he can’t be so overly protected.” The elderly man replied in a gruff voice as he stowed the Daily Prophet into his inside coat pocket.
Molly shook her head busying herself with the dishes in the sink and chopping onions.
“I don’t care what you say Moody, that newspaper is a piece of filth and Harry doesn’t need to see what the rest of the Wizarding community reads about him."

Fred and George let their extendable ears scurry off into the parlour where Kingsley and Remus were having a hurried, whispered conversation. George made careful notes of the fragments that they heard while Fred kept a look out.
George’s eyes bulged and there was almost steam coming off his quill as he made heard something new; that the order were guarding something, they were protecting something from attack. Fred’s urgent coughing alerted him to his mother’s presence and he quickly yanked his extendable ear back into his pocket.
“A funny place to do your homework boys.” Molly raised her eyebrows.

Holding a rag to his face, Sirius Black opened the cupboard in the kitchen that was unleashing an incredibly foul stench. He bent down and looked inside, faltering backwards because he was almost knocked out by the sight before him.
In a pile of old dusty rags where countless maggots crawling everywhere and contaminating all of the food that Molly Weasley had so graciously provided for him. Enraged, Sirius stormed out of the kitchen calling the name of his house elf.
“Kreacher! You blasted excuse for an elf get down here now!”
Kreacher came hobbling down the staircase smirking evilly.

The two men walked back and forth, looking up every so often at the clock wondering what was taking their friends so long to return to Grimmauld Place.
Sirius had wanted to go himself, but Mad Eye would have none of it.
Looking over to his best friend Remus Lupin, Sirius’ eyes then narrowed as he heard movement towards the front of the house.
Mad Eye Moody, Kingsley Shacklebolt, and Nymphadora Tonks all arrived in the kitchen about the same time.
“You can stop yer pacing. The boy is here.” Mad Eye announced.
Sirius looked over his shoulder and beamed.

Tonks flicked her wand lamely and watched a patronus emitted from the end. Tears came to her eyes when she noticed that her normal tiger was much bigger and monstrous.
“Remus.” She said breathlessly and let her wand drop to the ground the image of the beast disappearing into the wind. Tonks suddenly fell to the floor as well, crying into her hands out of self pity.
‘He can’t love you.’ She thought to herself amidst her sobs. But she loved him, despite any odds that were against them.
Tonk needed Remus Lupin like a fish needs water to live.
