As you walk into the old divination classroom you see, at one end, a black grand piano. Behind the piano is sat a tall man with dark curly hair, wearing a suit and tailcoat and playing a light, happy melody. It unlikely you’ve ever met him before – unless, of course, he is your music tutor. In front of the piano is a music stand with a few sheets of parchment on it, also lying here is a long wooden stick with a handle. No, not a wand, it is a conductor’s baton. Though it is as much a part of the man as his wand is so please leave it where it is. The man’s name is Dr Xavier James MacNally and he teaches, composes, conducts and plays a variety of instruments. If you look past him, just under the large black chalkboard - with his name written on it in a rather flamboyant script - you will notice a long mahogany chest with a sliver clasp on the front – don’t try and get into it, it’s locked. And [I]Alohamora[/I ] won’t help you either.
So come in, take a seat, write down your name, year and house on the card provided, fold it and place it on your desk so that Dr MacNally doesn’t have to keep asking your name. Please enjoy the entree music and greet Dr MacNally if you wish. Prepare yourself for an afternoon of music and – hopefully – enjoyment.
August had read the announcement that morning on the Gryffindor Notice Board and was exciteded to attend a lesson dedicated to music. He had learned a small amount of piano from his mother while growing up and he was definately interested in listening to that and other forms of classical music; hopefully they would get to study or listen to some.
As Auggie made his way up the old Divination Tower ladder, he heard the soft melody trickling down from the room above him and as he poked his head into the classroom he was suprised to see that he was the first person there besides the man at the piano. Was he interrupting something? Was this really the lesson? After peering at the blackboard, he was able to tell that it was infact the right place so he climbed up into it further and went to take a seat, all the while not taking his eyes off of the muscian.
"Good day, sir. You play very well." he said quietly, as he passed. When he sat down he filled out the namecard as told.

Were these odd classes always something Hogwarts did? Delilah had never heard of anything like them in any history books. She'd not gone to the first one because it looked boring. And by that she was ill. Delilah won't admit to that though. The classes DID look cool though. Music theory. No. Magical music theory. Definitely cool. Well, hopefully.
She gave a small nod to Gerald before going into the classroom.
Looking around the room, the small brunette frowned. There were only two students in there. How was she THAT early?! She'd gone from the very bottom to the very top of the castle! Really, all the other students were so lazy and disorganised. Or she was unnaturally organised. Delilah wasn't quite sure which. She eyed the man on the piano and listened to his music for a moment, before focusing her attention on the box under the blackboard.
Ooooooh.
After a moment of staring at the box, Delilah looked away and stared at the man. With an awkward wave she decided to speak up. "Hullo Mr... um... Sir..." Oh. No, wait. His name was on the board, wasn't it? Pffft. Silly chest distracting her attention from the important things. "Mr McNally. Hello."
Then, with a small shuffle, the girl sat down in the seat closest to her and filled out the name card on the desk.

Amelia was very excited as she walked into the room for the second seminar. She had really liked the first one a lot, so she hoped that the next one would be as enjoyable. She was especially excited because they would be working with musical instruments. She didn't really know too much about instruments, but she loved music. She then noticed the instructor and saw that it was she same man who had talked to her about lessons a few months ago. "Hello, Sir!" she said with a friendly smile while assuming he'd probably not remember her.

Magical Music Theory?
Now that was a subject he didn't expect to be taught at Hogwarts. Shoot Gideon hadn't even been aware it was something despite the fact he played the guitar. The Gryffindor had simply took it as a more non-magical aspect of his life. No matter, he was certainly interested when he had learned of the seminar being taught, even more so then the healer one the last time. And no real worry of anyone getting hurt and fainting, the incident with Kurumi still present in his thoughts from time to time.
So when the time came, Gideon made his way up to the unused Divination classroom. A few rolls of parchment and a quill slipped into his pockets for notes. When he stepped inside the room, he took in the surroundings, noticing both man and instrument as they worked together to make a random melody. Dr Xavier James MacNally...the man's name was written up on the board which helped keep him from trying to think of the best way to speak to him.
"Good day Dr. MacNally," he greeted simply with a polite nod as he crossed to a desk to take his seat, leaving the man to his music until he was ready to begun. Taking up the provided card, Gideon scribbled down his information before proping it up so it could be seen.

Ella entered Magical Musical Theory with a smile. A seminar about music sounded awesome to Ella who loved anything music related. She smiled at the extremely tall man when she entered, greeting him with a smile. "Hello!" she said happily, then she walked off to find a seat. She pulled out a quill and filled out her information, placing the name card where it would be easily visible.
Taylor walked in smiling. She loved music so she expected that this would be interesting. Tay stopped slightly away from the man and curtised. "Good day." She smiled at the music he was playing and rose frrom her curtisy. Taylor took a seat and pulled out a quill to fill in the name card.

Now this was one seminar she would surely enjoy. She loved music. PERIOD. Well, at times she would play the drums but that's that. She was really hoping to learn play more musical instruments. That would be very wicked! Being able to play more than one instrument. She'd make her cousin sooooo jealous.
Beezus took off the strap of her backpack on her shoulder as she went inside the old Divination classroom. At once, she was welcomed by a rather soothing melody. Quickly, she averted her sight to where the music was coming from. And...there! Behind the piano! EEEEEP! "Err--good day sir," she greeted him as she bowed a bit. Why does their Magical Musical Theory Instructor seem to look very handsome? Hehe.

Hmm, Magical Music Theory. Not something she expected to be taught at Hogwarts; and she wondered what was 'magical' about music. Silvia wasn't the best singer and had very little experience with instruments, but both her parents used to play instruments and the class sounded fun, so she had decided to show up.
She gave a soft "Hello" to the visiting music instructor and took a seat at one of the desks.

Yay, Musical Theory! Sky was excited for this one! She had it in her head that she wanted to be a rock star one day, so this type of class was right up her alley. After all, all the best rockers knew at least some of this stuff, right? She just hoped this didn't turn out to be like those stupid choir classes her (well meaning but misguided) mother had signed her up for. Who wanted to sing a song about trombones when you could sing about your angst?
Sky took a seat, filled out the paper and sat back. "Hello, professor!"

Kurumi didn't know what made her feet move towards the Divination Tower for this lesson. Music was something that reminded her of one thing and one thing only: her mother. For the past month and a half or so, all the fifth year had done was try to push all thoughts of her mother out of her mind to try and suppress the emotions that bubbled inside her every time she thought of her mother and how little time she had left. Being classically trained in the piano since she could stand really, music had been a part of Kurumi's upbringing - even if she came to loathe it at times.
Slowly stepping foot in the room, Kurumi bowed to the man. "Good day...sir," she said, not knowing who he was and failing to see his name on the board - the fifth year was rather distracted with her own thoughts at the moment. Finding a seat, Kurumi made her name tag and set it on her desk.

Elise bounded into the classroom. Music! Magical music, all the better! It didn't matter whether it was theory or not, but Elise would've preffered practical. That would have made it cooler. Staring at the beautiful grand piano, she was a little awestruck.

Cove was so excited! Music theory was something she was good at. Finally a class that she could excell at! Wether it be magical or muggle music theory, she composed her own music before, she knew the rules! Cove didn't know if they needed their insturments (if they had one), so she brought her violin.
Listening to the professor as he played the piano, she filled out the name card:

Extremely winded and tired, William slowly entered the classroom, clutching his side. The tiny, sickly second-year hardly ever had to come all of the way up to the Divination Tower, and therefore had a bit of trouble keeping his breathing controlled. After several moments of stitch-clutching and wheezing, William took a name card and took a seat somewhat near the front. With all of his heavy breathing, he hadn't given notice to the man playing a magnificent piano. Feeling it was rather futile to attempt to greet the musician over the pleasant melody, he resorted to taking out a quill and bottle of ink from his bag and writing neatly on the card.

Placing the card on the front edge of his desk, William silently sat at his desk. He hadn't made many friends at Hogwarts yet, and he was quite sure he had no musical talent. He was not even sure why he was here; he had never even heard of a Magical Music Theory class before.
"This will be interesting," he said, half sarcastically, as more students entered the classroom.
There was a class on music! Selina could barley control her excitement at the prospect of the lesson that was about to commence. The redhead, in spite of being a certified athlete because of Quidditch, loved music immesly. In fact, the Gryffindor played the flute since she was five years old. It was a hidden talent of hers that she had only broken out twice in a class at school, but she loved the flute none-the-less; so a class in theory would be a refreshing and nice change of pace.
As she walked into the room with a slight spring in her step Selina nodded at the Professor and said, "Hello Professor MacNally. Having a lovely day so far?"
Then she took her seat with the rest of her peers and wrote on the card:

Once Xavier had finished greeting the students he ended his tune with a flourish and stood up from the piano, softly closing the lid on the keys. He picked up the conductor’s baton from the music stand, and motioned for silence as though quietening an orchestra, then he put the baton behind his ear and clasped his hands in front of him.
“Good afternoon, class and welcome to the lesson.” he said in his soft Scottish accent, smiling around at the students. “My name,” he gestured to the blackboard, “Is Dr MacNally and I have been invited into your school to teach you the basics of Magical Music Theory.” This was so exciting! He loved new students. He recognised one or two of them – some of his private students – but new faces were always refreshing.
Here goes. “So, before we start, can anybody tell me the difference between Magical Music Theory and Ordinary Music Theory?” he asked, smiling around at the room, he was sure some of them would have very intuitive answers, younger students always did – adults usually tried to explain things in far too boring terms. And music is not supposed to be boring.
The seminar has now STARTED. Please don't arrive late! Just RP your character being here all along. Have fun!

Adjusting her name tag a bit, Kurumi looked up when the seminar officially began. Magical Music Theory? To be honest...she knew NOTHING about it in terms of the wizarding world. Why would she? She had essentially been raised non-magical and had never once used a charm or anything on a musical instrument or transfigured a pocket watch that could sing. So...what was the difference? Not a clue...but she COULD venture a guess.
Timidly, Kurumi raised her hand. "Music Theory, as it applies to the nonmagical world, is essentially any statement, belief, or conception of or about music. It could encompass how one composure has a particular style, an analysis of how certain genres of music effect the mood of a person or creature, or even the psychology to the explanation of how and why music is perceived." She paused for a moment. "I...must admit that I do not know anything about Magical Music Theory, but I would guess that it is very similar only applied to the magical world - witches, wizards, and magical creatures. For example...the of a Siren's song, or enchanted musical instruments, or the influence of WizRock on wizarding society could be included."

Amelia was happy that the instructor had remembered her. And she was very happy to meet him in person. He seemed nice, and she was still looking forward to the lessons they would have together. That is if she had time for said lessons. D:
