Evelyn had been listening to everyone answer, tuning in an out of the conversations and things being said. Why did divination have to make her so tired? They barely even started and she felt like she was falling asleep for some reason. Could have possibly been the effect from walking all the way up those stairs. Blah.

Sitting up in her seat when she heard the next question, she thought about them for a minute...the base, middle and rim sections inside of the teacup. Well, rim meant the edge of something right? "Would the rim be the top part around the teacup?" she asked more then said after raising her hand before continuing on with her thoughts aloud. "Which would mean the middle would be around the middle part of the teacup, and the base would be the bottom of it."

Alex had no clue how to tell. So she listened as others answered making sure she included everything that had already been questioned and answered in her notes. Well almost everyone she thought glancing at the potions girl who had gotten her a detention before focusing on the Professor.

Ella copied down down what the professor seemed to be saying as quick as she could. Because she had never taken Divination before, she didn't know the answer to the question. What she wanted to do was get to reading the tea leaves. So she listened to the other classmates to try and get an idea of what was being talked about.

The teacups. He stared at the teacup the Professor held and listened to him and the ones who were answering quite intently. Simply because he's never done any sort of reading besides books, and parchments, and all things written or with letters. But...tea leaves reading...yeah...never.

Oooooooh! That was...something very useful, and very awesome that the Professor pointed it out. Treyen certainly took notes on that.

After raising both his hands first, and then taking down the right one, because there was no need for BOTH hands, Treyen started to say, "Well, I believe that the base will be the bottom of the cup, what you see when you've finished your tea. Then the middle would be where the handle is, except, on the inside, of course....and, the rim, well, the border of the cup" he finished, and then asked something that was quite related to something the Professor just said, "Is that why the rim section corresponds to the present time? And the middle to the future? And the base to the outcome? I mean, as you drink, that's the order in which the tea vanishes...leaving the base as the end, the last you see..is it related to that?" he was having trouble trying to express himself, apparently, because he knew nothing of teacups.

Dianna quickly wrote down all the important things the professor had said and raised her hand once more.
"Erm.. the rim is the up most part of the tea cup, the middle is the middle part of the tea cup and the base is the bottom of it." Dianna wasn't exactly sure that her answer was correct but it was worth a try.

Hermione wrote down the remaining the notes the professor had given. "You tell the three sections of the teacup by how far they are from you. Since the rim is at the top and is closest to you it would be the present, the middle section of the cup is the near future because it is the second closest, and the base is at the bottom of the teacup because it is the farthest from you, and is therefore the conclusion." said Hermione hoping her answer had some logic to it.

Arya pulled her feet into the seat as she drew magical creatures on her parchement. Divination wasn't something that she enjoyed, mainly cause she found the subject to be quiet dull. Every so often she would look up from her doddles and maybe even take notes. She was waiting for them to start drinking tea, that sounded a little fun.

Gold raised a hand. "I'm not sure, sir -" She hesitated, slightly. "But I think that, when we pour the tea, the rim is the area above the tea-level. When we dump out the remainder, the base is the level of tea left. Between the two is, then, the middle."

"Or the base could be the bottom, the middle the mid-section, and the rim the very top," she said, quietly. "Like everyone else has said," she added, to let the Professor know that that was not her own answer. Gold wasn't one to take credit for others' answers, after all.

"And, as a few more students pointed out, if you were one of those individuals who happen to use BOTH hands equally, you determine the correct hand by first reaching for the cup, stopping, and using the OTHER hand to drink instead," he explained.

"Now, before we get to the fun part and start doing our own tea leaf readings, there is one more concept you need to understand," he said. He stopped the twirling of his wand and catched the cup before it fell from midair to the ground, and placed it back on his desk. "The symbols formed by the tea leaves will fall in different areas of the cup, and there are three regions that you mentally break the teacup into--base, middle, and rim. Tea leaf symbols that fall in the rim section correspond with the present time. The middle shows insight into the near future, and the base repesents the ultimate outcome or conclusion that you should draw from your tea leaves." he explained. That was a lot of info--he hoped they were taking notes!

"Basically professor, you imagine the three levels. You start by remembering what your cup looked like when it was full. That is your base section. Remember the amount of tea that was left in the cup before you dumped it. That is the Base Section. Then you visualize in your mind the area that exists between the rim and the base sections. That is your middle section. Basically, that's how you do it." Sidney thinks it relies a lot on imaginationg, but this is Divination.

"Or, if your broke it up straight across I'd say the base would be the bottom section, the middle the middle, and the rim, the outer... from the perspective you drank..." she said...

Then again... you could break it into rings... So confusing!!
"Not quite, but good guess!" Nolan said. "Points for effort."

"Correct, all of you," Nolan said with a smile at the students. He hoped it wasn't confusing them! "As a few students pointed out, the rim is the part of the teacup above the tea right before you start drinking. The base starts at...well, the base of the cup, and goes to the level where the tea was RIGHT before you dumped it into your saucer. The area in between those is the middle."

"Now, time to do some readings," he told the class with a grin. His favorite part! He waved his wand and the stack of teacups he had sitting on his desk rose into the air and floated around the room, with each cup landing in front of a student. Once that was done, he flicked his wand once more, and a tea kettle rose off of the desk and began to pour hot water into the cups of the students in the front row.

"Up on my desk is a tray with individual bags of Earl Grey tea leaves. Come up to the front, grab a bag of tea leaves, and head back to your desks and add the leaves to your hot water. Keep in mind that IS hot, and please DON'T SPILL!" he told them sternly. He pulled some spoons out and set them next to the bags of tea leaves, so they'd have something to stir their tea with if they didn't feel like using their wands.

"Before you begin drinking, take a minute and try to clear your head of all thoughts. If there is a certain thought or problem that continues to pop up while you're attempting this, that will be the subject of your reading," he explained. "If you simply cannot think of ANYTHING, you will do a general reading, and the results you get will give you advice on life in general BUT I would prefer you have some sort of question or situation to focus on while doing your reading."

"As you sip, focus on that thought, and try not to drink any of the leaves," he added with a chuckle, although he knew it was sometimes hard to avoid. "Leave a small amount of tea in the bottom of your cup, and once you're finished, give it THREE good swirls to get the leaves spread out amongst the cup. Then turn it over in your saucer to drain the remaining tea, and wait at least three breaths before turning it back over. Then you may begin your reading."

He knew he was throwing a lot of information at them at once, so he flicked his wand, and a few notes copied themselves on the blackboard behind his head:

Quote:
Tea Leaf Reading

1. Brew your tea
2. Attempt to clear your mind of all thoughts...any issue/thought that continues to weight heavily on your mind during this time will be the subject of your reading
3. Sip your tea while focusing on this thought (remember to use your NON DOMINANT hand!)
4. Leave small amount of tea in cup, give liquid three good swirls, then drain remaining tea into saucer
5. Identify symbols in the three areas of your cup (rim, middle and base) and take notes on the meanings of these symbols and what they might mean in regards to the subject of your reading.

*If you have any questions DO NOT hesitate to ask Professor Reynolds!
"And, finally, I'll pass out a copy of common symbols and their meanings to each of you...keep this parchment handy, cause you never know when you may need it again," he told them all with a smirk. Wink wink. Nudge nudge.

"Alright--have at it," Nolan said with a grin, stepping off to the sides to allow the students to come grab their tea leaves.

OOC: Okey dokey guys, go ahead and RP yourselves doing a reading! I'll leave the thread open for another day or two, so don't worry about rushing through your RP, you have plenty of time to spread it out! If you have ANY questions please ask Nolan, I know there's a lot of info so if you are confused PLEASE ask :] A little chatter is fine, but no in depth discussions of your love lives, please, you're supposed to be FOCUSING your minds (and remember Nolan IS still in the room and can hear everything you're saying!)

After the kettle has passed by and has poured hot water in the cup, Dianna quickly got up to get a bag of tea leaves and a spoon.
"Locomotor Spoon" and the spoon turned at her will. While it was brewing Dianna emptied her mind of all things. It wasn't really a hard thing to do because she didn't have any problems yet.

Stuck inside with Sirius | *Splish-Splash* | bamBAM | ☁ Spooktacular ☁

Nia got her tea from the front, and eyed it with a slight look of disgust as she waited for the hot water to reach her. Earl Grey was definitely NOT to her taste. English breakfast tea she could drink plenty of...Earl Grey? Eurgh. Just the aroma to Nia was off putting. She would put up with it for the purposes of the lesson...but it definitely wasn't helping Nia's stance on divination. She raised her hand. "Due you have to use Earl Grey?" Nia asked. "Or will any of type tea work? In the case of not likely Earl Grey, for example."

By now she had hot water, so she added her tea leaves, trying not to think about the fact she was not looking forward to drinking it. She swallowed slowly, and eyed it wearily. Right, not to concentrate. Anything but the taste. What was she interested in knowing about for her reading?

Delilah came back to her seat and sat down. She cleared her mind. She brewed the tea, and drank most of it. She began to swirl the remaining liquid. 1... 2... 3... She tipped the cup over and waited until the remaining tea drained out of the cup.

Hmm. Earl Grey that tea was yummy. Brody smiled as she stood up, and approached the desk, picking up a packet of the tea leaves, and a spoon. She walked, slowly back to her seat, taking her time, before she was trying to clear her head already. She spent a lot of time thinking about herself, so she'd need to stop that. Sitting down, She placed the bag of tea leaves next to her cup of hot water. Hmm. She needed to be careful, because knowing her she would spill it or something, because she was silly like that.

She picked up the packet, and gently opened it, tipping the tea leaves into the water carefully. That should do it. She looked in at the tea, hmm. That would need stirring. Picking up the spoon she stirred it gently, trying not to knock some tea out of the cup. Once she had done that, she took the spoon out, drying it with a spell, before placing it down on the table.
Now to clear her head, which would be hard because she had lots of nice thoughts. She took a deep breath, closing her eyes, and tried not to think about herself...or shoes. Opening her eyes slowly, she picked up the cup, with her non-dominant hand, and took a sip, whilst trying to not think about herself, but something else instead. oh. Yes. That thought.

Tea leaf reading!

Yeah!

But...eh...they were supposed to drink it? Not so "Yeah!" after all.

Either way, whether he liked the tea or not, he was learning something new, and something related to the future. The future was awesome, so, never mind the tea.

Treyen got up, because he didn't want to accio the tea leaves to him...eek! Can you imagine if he accioed the tea leaves and they got sprayed all over the classroom?! Er, perhaps he did make a good decision and got up. In almost an instant he was sitting again, tea leaves bag in his hand, and...time to get the tea leaves in his cup! He did smell the leaves, just to know if that's how the tea was going to taste. But..hmmm...orange-ish...odd.

Well, the leaves were in the cup now. No turning back.

Clearing minds. Clearing minds. He had only one concern. Actually, two. ACTUALLY, three. Or many more. Focusing, right. Yes! The celebrity in him thought it best to think if he was ever going to achieve the greatness that Gilderoy Lockhart had been in his days. Treyen could've thought about wandlore, oh-so-easily, but deep down he'd wanted to know if he's ever going to be like his great-great-great(?)uncle, Gilderoy....not like his owl, Gilderoy, just in case. He made an effort not to think of the owl, but the person named Gilderoy.

First, he reassured that the tea wasn't as hot as to burn his tongue, and then took the cup with his left hand...because he wrote with his right one. *Cough* *Cough* The tea went down the wrong way, and a couple leaves too. But it tasted alright.

Once again he took the cup, and started to drink the tea, focusing on what was needed.

Amy walked up to the desk and took the teacup filled with tea, she took it back to her desk and concentrated on emptying her mind, then after that few rather boring minutes she begin to drink the tea still with a blank mind, and-OHH that was hot!, and.... icky, she thought deciding she didn't like tea, but she carried on drinking ignoring her urge to spit it out until-at last, she had a few sips left. She swilled her tea, once, twice, three times and drained the rest, tipped the cup back up and looked into the cup

Carter went up to the front and grabbed a packet of tea and a spoon. By the time he returned to his seat his teacup already had hot water. He poured the bag in and began stirring. He cleared his mind as doing so and hoped something would come to him. But nothing did. He'd have to do a general read. He started reaching for his cup with his right hand and had to stop himself. Picking up the cup with his left hand he began drinking it. He wasn't sure how he was supposed to keep a blank mind when it took all of his concentration not to spill it.

be the bre.

Rae brewed her tea and sipped it and so on and so forth until she was down to where she was turning her tea cup over. By the time she turned it back around she though she was looking at tea leaves.... Well.... Was she supposed to see something different? She saw ivy in the tea leaves, that one she could decipher. She went to look it up and it meant... Trust your friends and not be independant? What friends? "Professor is this correct? Ivy is there... That means to not be so independant... and that........ Is... uh..." She pointed at the blob thing that she could not figure out..... "Professor what is that one?"

Earl Grey. Yummeh? Abby had never had it before. Not even at Laspa's house. But Snapple iced tea was delicious for sure. Heh.

She stirred her tea. Well, she didn't have much of a taste for hot tea. But she couldn't think about that now. They were supposed to be clearing their minds. Cleeearing. Okay. Putting down her spoon, Abby took her cup and drank the tea. Ugh. Nothing like Snapple.

"And, finally, I'll pass out a copy of common symbols and their meanings to each of you...keep this parchment handy, cause you never know when you may need it again," he told them all with a smirk. Wink wink. Nudge nudge.

"Alright--have at it," Nolan said with a grin, stepping off to the sides to allow the students to come grab their tea leaves.

William had been paying attention, he really had. but when he looked over to certain students his mind just drifted off into nothingness, and he found himself imagining himself out of the classroom, far away from hogwarts on a magical donkey. Wait, what? There was no such thing as a magical donkey, or was there? That was something he'd have to ask professor Lawson - err the female one - whatever one it was, surely she could help him figure it out.

Snapping to attention when he heard professor Nolan tell them they could get on with the reading he couldn't help but smile. He looked up, his hyperness suddenly vanishing as he watched the professor magic the teacups around the table, his landing with a soft flump in front of him. He smiled, magic was so cool sometimes he mused as a kettle of steaming HOT water moved around the room, depositing the HOT liquid into each teacup. Perhaps drinking the tea would wake him up from his strange slumbery mood he mused as he stood up, stretching his legs and arms before making his way over to the front and taking a bag of Earl Gray tea - the man had great taste he thought - and made his way back to his seat sitting down again.

Yawning he looked around, seeing no one around and ducked into his bag on the pretense of finding another bottle of ink. In reality he was taking out a chocolate frog from it's wrapper, popping it into his mouth quickly eating like a madman before popping up with said ink bottle, placing it on the desk in front of him beside the teacup. Now he had to clear his mind, easier said than done he thought, closing his eyes and willing his errant thoughts to disappear, at least for an hour. He kept thinking how he wished he had been at school last year when everything had gone down, it wasn't fair for Cela to go through everything she was alone, he liked her. Not in that way liked, but she was cool and seeing her do something like she had in Potions class made him realize that whatever had happened last term had been traumatizing for everyone.

Except him.

Yup there went that thought again. Sighing he tightened his eyes closed, willing the thoughts to disappear, just like Ariana had taught him. Slowly the thought vanished, going into a place that she had told him about and he opened his eyes to look around. Okay, he could do this, the tea should be drinkable now right? Picking it up with his right hand - he was left handed - he gazed into the cup. Just as he took a sip that thought entered his mind again and he gave into it, focusing on the thought of him standing in the shadows doing nothing more than watching as everything happened. Sure he hadn't been there but still. Lifting the cup to his lips he began sipping.

Ellie sighed. Eh, she tried.

Then she listened to the Professor and went to get some tea. She went back to her seat and put the bag in the water and waited for it to turn all tea-y.

Alex sighed getting a cup from the front and a spoon along with the tea leaves. Alex made a face of disgust after the kettle poured water in her cup. She never liked Earl Gray Tea but she put the leaves in it and the spoon quickly moving her wand in a small slow circles saying, "Locomotor Spoon." it was the only way she knew how to stir tea with her wand. She decided to finally stop the spell and removed the spoon before clearing her mind or trying to. All Alex could think of was detention, detention, detention, girl who got her in detention, and the Potions Professor. She sighed taking a deep breath before thinking of the next potion class and sipping the tea making a face at the taste.

Nolan shook his head. He knew some people would be put off with the taste of it, but unfortunately he wasn't able to get a variety of teas. "It doesn't have to be Earl Grey, any tea leaf will do. Some people even use coffee grounds. Unfortunately, this was all we were able to collect for the lesson."

He waved his wand and gave it a little swish, pointing at her teacup. "There, I dulled the taste for you," he said with a smile, since the girl just LOOKED like she was going to be sick at the prospect of drinking it. "If anyone else simply cannot stand the taste of Earl Grey, let me know and I'll do something about it," he announced to the class.

Uh oh. Tea leaf choking victim number one! He made his way over to him, hoping with his fingers mentally crossed that he didn't choke so badly on them that he needed the nurse! "You ok there?" he asked, eyeing the boy from behind his glasses.

No. more. injured. Hufflepuffs. NOOOOO!

She went to look it up and it meant... Trust your friends and not be independant? What friends? "Professor is this correct? Ivy is there... That means to not be so independant... and that........ Is... uh..." She pointed at the blob thing that she could not figure out..... "Professor what is that one?"
"Hmmmmm," Nolan said, peering into the girl's cup. Good thing he'd worn his glasses today! "Well, to ME that looks like a bowl, which would most likely mean invitations in this case. Perhaps that means in the future, you'll have an invitation to do something with others that will not force you to be so independent of yourself?" he suggested. "You know yourself, and the subject of your reading, better than I do. And do you think that looks like a bowl as well? Some people see signs differently," he told her with a nod. It was sort of hard for him to help with the readings, because he knew that what HE saw might not be what THEY saw.

Professor, Amy asked putting her hand up and showing him the notes, so what does it mean?
"Well, harp and foot both mean love--foot more specifically means MOVEMENT in your love life," he explained. Soooo dating drama? How common at Hogwarts! "And wheel means outside forces are working on your life that you cannot control. What do you think that means in your life?" he asked her. She knew herself better than he did!
