Default The Office of Professor Primeaux

Professor Julien Primeaux has everything in order from the sign on his door that says to knock and wait to be allowed to enter to his office being in the most organized neat fashion. Not one thing will ever be out of place. His desk has a few papers usually on it for grading and note taking, but most of his prize possessions sit behind him in the tall book cases. He has two windows in the castle that have been extended to be longer and looking out onto the grounds. Plenty of natural light to come into the room.

The student and staff visiting are welcome to sit in one of the two leather chairs that are charmed to be extra comfortable. Julien's chair sits right behind his desk and he will make sure that no one other than himself will be sitting in it. There are a few pictures hung in his office of his wife and daughters and one of his son in his Magpie Robes.

Please remember to post here first and wait until the professor gives you permission to come in.

"Now you try"
Keep it tight. Right. Jaemin nodded lightly at the professor's instruction, and when he corrected the boy's movement, he made a mental note about it. He probably did that with a lot of his spells... that might be one of the reasons they didn't work right off for him... He repeated the circle with the professor's correction a few times, just to make sure his arm would settle into moving like that. When he was sure, he halted the movement and listened very closely to the way the professor said the spell.

Viseo Ebullio... he wrinkled his nose a little at the incantation. This was the part that was the most difficult for him, because his tongue still hadn't settled into spells like this just yet. He set his hands in his lap, holding his wand carefully as he slowly repeated the spell. "Viseo... Ebullio... Vi seo Eb ullio... Viseo Ebullio..."

He repeated it a few more times, voice tentative and soft, before looking up at the professor and nodding. It wasn't too difficult to say. He could do that. The boy held his wand up again, ready to repeat the wand movement and the spell at the same time. Clear... and with determination. He frowned a bit in focus.

"Viseo Ebullio," he said as confidently as he could manage, eyes going to his hand to watch as he moved his wand. He was super careful to make sure that he kept the circle tight, his hand giving a slight twitch as it completed the circle and he looked around. "Ahh... I didn't do it right, I think..."

Ordinarily Haddie would find his antics hilarious and fun, but today she just wasn't feeling it. "I can wait until you're not busy," she said. "Or I can run downstairs and get the Bloody Baron if you want?" It was as much a threat aimed at Peeves as it was an offer to Professor Primeaux. "I'm sure he's bored and just itching for some fun." That one was entirely for Peeves. A bit of the old Haddie mischievous sparkle had returned to her eyes.
OOOOOOOH, he had company! Peeves turned to the door with a gleeful cackle as he heard it open and the stuffy old Charms professor came bustling in. He wondered if he had a bulging vein in his head like the cranky old librarian did too. And he stared at him for a moment waiting to find out with a very amused expression. Ohhh, this guy was mad! Hahahahahahaha.

"Oh, I was just doing a little redecorating," he grinned. "Whaddya think? It's much more livened up now!" As in hilarious. And not nearly as boring.

Oh, and look! There was his food fight buddy! "Come on in, it's a PARTY!" Peeves began spinning around and bouncing off the walls. It was too bad he had used up all the cans of silly string he had brought, but maybe there was something else in this newly decorated office he could have fun with. Or maybe food fight buddy brought something along with her. And Peeves responded to the girl's remark with a big ol' raspberry in her face before bouncing off the walls again. Silly humans didn't really think he'd flee at mere mention of the Baron's name, did they? PSH.

Mood or not, Haddie found it hard not to smile at Peeves' antics. She couldn't help herself, she found the poltergeist funny. With great effort she managed to force a more serious expression on face, but the edges of her mouth quivered a little, fighting to smile again. She shrugged and gave Professor Primeaux a Well, I tried, look. "Peeves," she offered. "If you leave Professor Primeaux alone so I can meet with him, I'll help you cause trouble somewhere else later." How did that sound? She was doubtful the poltergeist would take the offer, but you never know, it might work. Getting into trouble was always more fun with someone else joining in.

Julien watched as he practiced the words and the movements. "Good, good. Now if you just put them together. You might not do it right off the bat, but practicing like this will make it come easier and faster than it would have if you waited until the correct year." The first year had determination. That was the first step of being a great wizard.

As he watched Jaemin do the entire charm he wasn't surprised when it didn't work. "You have everything correct and I know with more practice you will probably be the first in your year to get this right. Just keep working on it and I know you'll get it. Make sure you are confident in yourself as the more confidence that comes out in your voice the more your spell and wand will work for you." He had watched many good wizards fail at charms because their lack of confidence made their wands not want to work with them.

Moving back to his seat behind his desk he watched Jaemin a bit longer, "I have nothing for awhile if you'd like to stay and practice or if you'd feel more comfortable somewhere else that's fine as well. You are doing very well though."

He eyed the girl that just walked in and started about the Baron. Not the best tactic with Peeves, he knew it was a good threat, but usually with children he wouldn't take it as serious. "I do not want my office redone. If I did I would do it myself, but thank you for the effort." He was staying calm, see? There was a student so he would, but his tone of voice had annoyance. BIG annoyance!

"It is NOT a party. Peeves was just leaving." Pulling his wand he cleaned off his portraits of his family first. That was just unacceptable. Looking at the girl as she spoke again he gave her a look, "No you will not or you will find yourself in detention." No one should help this blasted thing with any of his pranks. I will have order in this office or I will have to resort to something you will not like. He pointed his wand at peeves, he remembered that fun little charm didn't he?

It was harder to do much redecorating when there were people in the way. People who were acting like such party poopers. Even the girl thought she could bargain with him. HA!

"Oh, I'm always up for fun!" he cackled. "But I'm not going anywhere yet!" Not when he hadn't yet seen if Professor Grumpy Pants had one of those bulging veins in his head like Mr. Librarian. Hmm? Peeves flew a little closer to Primeaux's face, looking all around as if he were carefully inspecting. No bulging vein yet? Boo!

Not a party?? NOT A PARTY?!? "Peeves can change that!" He dug around in his pocket. Ooh, there was some glitter and confetti deep down and he threw handfuls around the office as he flew around, cackling with glee. "Your office looks so much more festive now!" It was a start, okay?! But what they really needed was some music.....

Glitter... yay. Haddie dusted some of the sparkly annoyance off her shoulder. She'd just managed to get all of the glitter from Rachel's prank out of her hair, finally, and now she had more glitter in her hair. Maybe Haddie could go back in time magically and prevent glitter from ever being invented.

She shrugged, looking from Peeves to Professor Primeaux. "It was worth a shot," she said, shrugging again. "So... yeah. You have your hands full. I'll just go, and come back another time, then." Even after the Professor got rid of Peeves, he was going to be too busy and distracted getting his office in order anyway. Haddie turned toward the door. "Good luck, Professor."

FUMING, yes, Julien was now seeing red he was getting so angry at Peeves. He expected respect and order. He knew he wouldn't get that from him, but this was his office and he wasn't going to tolerate that at all. At least Haddie seemed to be on the same side not to follow Peeves. "ENOUGH" He looked towards Peeves and then glanced at Haddie.

"No need. This is over and we can get back to what you wanted." Moving away from the child he kicked a few things out of the way before fully raising his wand. "You will stop now and be done." He had to know what was coming, Julien couldn't imagine the students didn't know how to move him along. No it didn't fully rid them of him, but it help for the time being.

Moving his wand and without a word green shot out and right at Peeves.

Even though he knew that being a first year meant that he was unlikely to master this spell quickly, it was still a bit frustrating that he couldn't get it to work. He wanted to be good at everything, and everything included this. It wasn't surprising, but it still suuuuuuucked, and he tried his best not to be disappointed.

Confidence. Confidence. He could do confidence. He nodded as the professor spoke, biting his lip. He wanted to be the first one in his year to get it! It would be really cool. He looked at his wand. "When are you supposed to learn spells like this? Is it when you're supposed to learn the Patroneous one, too?"

How was it decided when stuff like this was learned? He did the circle thing again, and said the spell as confidently as possible. It still didn't do anything, but he was going to work his way up to it. He was sooooo going to get this spell. He was determined to get it to work.

To say that Julien was impressed was an understatement. He was very impressed by this young determined first year. Many of them, like his nephews, were out running around the castle while this one was in here trying to learn advance charms for his age. He took in his question and tapped his fingers on the desk.

"Fourth years are usually when this spell is introduced, but you shouldn't let that hurt your determination. A child with determination can learn anything he wants as long as he puts his mind to it and practices. I was like you, I would always try to learn charms before everyone else. It's what started my passion for learning and for teaching." Right here in this very office, occupied by an entirely different professor. One that most likely would be telling the child to enjoy being 11 and not worrying about charms that were harder to succeed at, but Julien liked to feed the spark and push students to higher levels.

"Very good, your wrist is correct. You just have to now get your confidence that you can do this. You won't fail." Once he had that in mind he would be easily keeping the air around his mouth and nose clear. The rest of him was another story, because the bubble charm couldn't do everything.

Peeves was still throwing handfuls of confetti around, not paying any attention to whatever conversation the Professor and the student were having. It was a real shame that Professor Grumpy Pants didn't have that bulging vein in his head, but he had pretty much forgotten that now. His real focus was FUN-ifying the most boring office on the planet.

Once he ran out of confetti, he flew back a bit to take a look at his handiwork. "MUCH BETTER! Wouldn't you--?" Err, what? Normally he thought irrational anger from humans to be hilarious, but he recognized that green light. It stopped him in his tracks and pushed him back from where he floated. Well, this was not fun at all! Especially when the spell was as powerful coming from a skilled adult wizard.

It might be fun to dodge it, which he had been known to do, but Peeves had his fill of fun in this office anyway. Just look at how festive it looked now! "PARTY POOPER!" he yelled, then blew a raspberry in the professor's face before flying off. There was PLENTY of more fun to be had elsewhere.

Fourth year... it felt almost a little bit like a sucker punch, that. He was a first year. He'd seen fourth years doing stuff, and he knew for sure that he wasn't anywhere near their level yet. It would take some time... hopefully not three years of it, though. He didn't want to have to wait three years to learn this charm! He wanted to have it down by the end of the term, at the latest.

And if the professor thought he could do it, then he was sure he could do it. After all, the professor was smart and everything. He would know, more than Jaemin would.

"I like learning magic," he murmured, looking at the wand in his hand. His wand. It had picked him specially. "I waited a long time to get to come to Hogwarts, so I could learn all sorts of magic stuff."

He'd done his time in Muggle school, and they'd all done their time worrying if he'd actually get a letter on his birthday. He hadn't had any of those big 'incidents' that others seemed to have, and for a while his parents had tried to talk to him about not being disappointed if the letter didn't come. But it had, and he was determined to be soooooo much better at Wizard stuff than he was at Muggle stuff. And he was pretty darn good at a lot of Muggle stuff.

He looked up from his wand, at the professor, and smiled. "I'll practice it lots until I get it to work. And when I make it work, I'm gonna come show you I can do it! Okay?"

Haddie froze. She had never seen Professor Primeaux this angry before. She didn't even know he could get this angry before now. It was sort of terrifying, given how out of place it was. More than anything she wanted to leave and come back another time now. But instead she just sat down like a dog commanded by his owner, even though the Enough! hadn't been directed at her.

She waited and watched quietly as Professor Primeaux dealt with Peeves. The spell he used was intriguing. She didn't even know ghosts could be effected by spells... But there it was. The green sparks had pushed Peeves back, and he took off. That was going to be a useful little spell. "What was the incantation for that spell?" He had cast it quietly, and she wanted to try the spell out on her own.

The office was a complete disaster, which again, made Haddie want to come back another time, when Professor Primeaux was less busy, and less annoyed. There was no reason this couldn't wait til another day. "Are you sure you don't want me to come back later, when you have less to deal with?"

That took care of him, thank Merlin, he was glad that Peeves left the room. Julien looked around his office and started moving his wand to clean things up. This would take him all day to get back in order, but first things were first. Turning he looked at Haddie just as she spoke again.

"No, today is fine. I'll clean this up later. He has had his fun, so he shouldn't be coming back." Finding the chairs he made his way to one and took a seat. "That was Skurge, it is a charm I learned as a young boy and will be teaching all of you if this keeps up." That would teach old peeves now wouldn't it.

"Anyway, what can I do for you?"

Okay?"

His determination and spirit made Julien smile. He was going to go far in life and become a great wizard. It was something you could just tell by they way he spoke and appreciated the spells and learning. "Are your parents magic?" He knew some children didn't have pure blood like himself, but that didn't mean the child couldn't do well, it just meant that his excitement for it all was understandable. His own nephews seemed to be more expectant of it than interested and excited at times. It was a shame really.

He was going to practice until he got it right, well Julien liked the sound of that and nodded, "Very good, I expect I'll see you before term is up if you keep working hard and be determined." They had plenty of time left and even though he was only a first year it wasn't impossible for him to get the spell to work.

Haddie shrugged a little, and nodded. She pulled a small object out of her pocket and held it out for Professor Primeaux to see. A digital music player. "I, uh, miss music," she confessed, some slight embarrassment clear in her voice. "I know...I know electricity doesn't work here. Magic disrupts it and everything. But I also have seen, and read about, a lot of things that normally needed electricity to work, but don't, because they've been enchanted or something." Like her camera, that normally would need batteries, but nope. Magic. And that car she read about that went wild and roamed the forbidden forest for a while. There were a lot of examples of things being enchanted to work without electricity when normal it would need it.

"So I figured you would know what spell or spells are used to make this work on magic or whatever, instead of electricity. And, you know, might teach me those spells, and help me cast them if they're too advanced for me just yet?" Naturally, Haddie would rather learn and cast the spells herself, but she knew might need his help for them to be successful. She was, after all, just a first year. She gave him the most hopeful, pleading smile she could.

He couldn't remember the last time someone had asked him that question... Jaemin tilted his head and wrinkled his nose, immediately repeating the same answer he always gave. This time, however, since it was a professor... he gave a little more. "Yes and no... dad is a wizard, but mom is a Muggle. They weren't sure what I would be. And dad taught me some stuff about magic, but not much cause of mom."

They had wanted balance, they said, and for Jay to not get confused in his Muggle classes. After all... that sort of stuff had gotten him in trouble in classes when he was just starting in school. It had just been easier for everyone, to keep things back. He hadn't been happy about it, especially when they'd discussed the idea of him not getting a letter, but he was here, so none of that mattered anymore. All the basic stuff his dad had taught him was being built upon now, and it made the small boy happy.

"I have a lot of stuff to catch up on, but I'm trying really hard to do it!" He grinned at the professor, nodding happily. "It's neat to see how stuff goes with the Muggle stuff I learned in school before."

After peeves had left and he started the room to clean itself Julien found his pot and started making tea. He needed to calm his nerves. "Would you like some tea?" She could have some too if she wanted. It seemed she was ready to tell him why she was here and he turned and looked at her as she spoke.

"Ludo is the words you need. It's just a quick flick towards the electronic you want. We have some very good wizarding stations you might be able to get here." He headed closer and pulled out his wand doing the movements and the radio turned on.

Well that could explain things, "Every great wizard has his or her own story. Some are with muggles some are pureblood. It never defines who you will end up being. You have the spirit to be a great wizard if you keep practicing and doing well." He could see the spark and it was just keeping the spark going.

"If you are ever in need of any help you can always come and ask." That was for all his students that were willing and wanting to learn.

The girl made a face at the offer of tea, that quite clearly showed she wasn't a fan. She realized it and gave the professor an embarrassed look. "Sorry," she said. A moment later she shook her head. "I'm good. But thank you." Now would be a good time to change the topic... "There are wizarding stations?" She was surprised, flabbergasted even. Sure, once you thought about it, it made sense, but the idea was so far out of the norm for what she's seen of the Wizarding World that such a thought would have never even tried to grace her mind. Haddie made a face that could only be described as impressed nonchalant --talented girl there-- and shrugged. Radio Free Wizardry was something she could explore later, on her own time.

Radio Free Wizardry would be a great station name...maybe next year she should try to start an underground radio station at Hogwarts. Assuming she got to come back.

"Ludo." Hadley nodded and pulled out Kira, her wand. She still loved how well the silver and gold inlaid eagles and spirals looked against jet black wood. Mr. Banner at Ollivander's had done a great job. She set the mp3 player down on Professor Primeaux's desk and aimed her wand. "Ludo!" She gave the wand a flick at the mp3 player. It didn't look any different, but then again, was it supposed to? Haddie picked the device up and turned it on. Nothing.

She couldn't say she was surprised. Ever since she came back from break her ability to cast spells was...distorted? She guessed that would be the best word for it. Maybe. Perhaps adding the silver and gold inlay to Kira had altered her characteristics, or perhaps it was Haddie who had changed. The girl had a sneaking suspicion it was her, not her wand, that was behind it. She set the music player down and tried again. "Picture it in your head," she whispered to herself and was still for a moment. "Ludo!" She flicked the wand at the mp3 player and --moment of truth-- picked the device up and the screen lit up! Haddie's face lit up brighter though. "It worked! Thank you, Professor!"
