So this was the first test. The first of several, probably, but the first one to count towards whether or not Cat and Mo could study for OWLs together without one or the other being too distracting to the other. Surely if they could do Charms homework together, they were solid.

She was so sure.

"Alright, so what did you bring with you, huh?" Cat sat on the ground with her legs crossed and gave the boy expectant looks. It was time for some homeworky business.

So, coming up to the extra Charms practice room Tag took a look around. At the moment the place looked pretty empty? Maybe that was the way it was supposed to be. Students could easily move around with no furniture getting in their way. Oh. An there was a Cat, Tag didn't know her too well but had spoken to her on occasion so Tag gave her a small wave. She was probably here to do her homework as well?

First explained in the homework Tag had to slow down an object at least a minimum of three times. That seemed easy enough. Tag had brought a small soccer ball with him, as the object he was going to throw.

Making sure to be facing the opposite of Cat Tag brought up his wand hand and held it out in front of him. Then, he lifted the hand holding his little soccer ball and tossed it into the air. It went flying across the room, rapidly losing air so Tag hastily waved his wand and called out "Arresto Momentum!" Closing one of his eyes Tag dared to look with his opened one and saw that the ball was slowly descending onto the floor. He'd done it.

Tora walked into the charms practice room toting more than her usual feather light bag. It was tough actually carrying thing about when it wasn't charmed to be weightless! She would definitely have to get Adrienne to haul it all down. After all, Tora carried it up didn't she?

She pulled from the sack she carried several sizes and types of balls. She found them in an abandoned classroom and had instantly claimed them for Charms homework. Of course she would return them when she was finished, but for she couldn't see why she couldn't use them.

There was just about every type of ball imaginable. There were dodge balls, baseballs, basketballs, footballs, rugby balls, volleyballs, quaffles; the only kind that weren't there were the huge metal cannon balls that Tora had decided were too heavy for her to bother with.

She organized them by type, then by size, then by color, then just ran through them all kicking them about. She even tossed a couple up in the air and practiced slowing and stopping them. "Arresto Momentum!" she said over and over until she got bored even of that. At least she knew that she would be able to beat Adrienne in excelling at their homework. With all this extra practice, she could probably teach the spell.

Maybe she had misunderstood when she was supposed to meet Adrienne here for Charms homework? Or maybe Adrienne was running late? Tora finally plopped down impatiently on the floor to wait for her friend. Let's get this party started!

Mo unpacked his bag quietly, although there wasn't much to unpack. Just a colorful rubber ball, his wand, and the parchment and quill for recording how his practicing went. Still, he lingered over it, giving Cat sideways glances until he realized that he'd also managed to pull out three text books, a book of his own, an extra quill, a random ball of yarn, and a packet of gum. Everything went back into his satchel.

"Rubber ball. I figured if I could master the spell, then I'd want something with a variable bounce pattern for more of a challenge." Mo pretended to throw the ball at Cat before tucking it into his pocket. "What did you bring? Are you ready?"

The Charms practice room was a good place to get this homework done. Adi had considered doing it by the Lake or the Duck pond but he didn't too many persons seeing him making a fool of himself. He wasn't that good with magic as yet, after all.

There were students there already, one dude had even begun practicing. The firstie decided he'd better get a move on it. He had brought his Spiderman eraser to use again. This time around he did not intend to let itbop his forehead again. "Well, here goes!'' Adi thought, having found himself a corner where he could practice without disturbing anyone or anyone disturbing him.

The eraser was soon airborne. "Arresto Momentum!" The eleven year old concentrated as he waved his wand. Was he able to do it properly?

Yes!

The eraser was slowly descending towards him!

With her head tilted to one side, Cat watched as the boy took a lot of things out of his bag. Why so many things, Marcus? She was a girl and she didn't travel so heavy. "Apple." She grinned and produced a large red apple on the palm of her hand.

Food, see? Food.

It was a reward system.

She stood up and glanced around the room, wondering if Professor Facial Hair would show his lovely facial hair face while she was trying to concentrate on her homework. It was distracting enough to have boyfriend there as it were. "Born ready." She twirled her wand and raised an eyebrow. "Want me to throw for you? You for me? Teamwork? Don't eat my apple, though, I need it."

"Of course. Of course you brought food to Charms practice." Mo grinned broadly and shook his head as he took the apple from Cat and moved several feet away from her. He wasn't sure which she would try first - stopping the apple completely or just slowing it down - but it didn't change anything from his end. He was just throwing things.

"I'll throw first to you, and then we'll alternate. And I wouldn't dream of eating your apple, because then you wont' have anything to throw." And he had his own food... or he would, after he stopped by the kitchens and purloined some.

"Ready? Go." Mo lobbed the ball gently towards her.

Ok so she totally missed Charms class but she had a really good reason for not being there. Now it was time for her to do her homework on something that she did not even get to practice in class. Great. Just great. She could probably use a buddy to help with this homework, but she was not going to ask anybody for help and she didn't see any of her friends so she was just going to have to go with it. At least she could depend on herself.

She found her a nice quiet area and began unpacking her wand, parchment (for just in case) and she decided to bring a piece of toast from the kitchen to practice with. The sixth year figured that if the toast ended up hitting her in the face then at least the only thing that would hurt would be her pride.

Ahem. Time to practice yes? She felt a bit foolish as she tossed the toast in the air. She suddenly wondered if picking toast was such a clever idea because she wasn't sure if it would stay airborne. She was happy as she saw is flying in the air. She figured she wouldn't have much time to waste so she waved her wand while saying "Arresto Momentum!" and was pleased to see the toast actually slowing down. See! She didn't need to go to no stinking lesson!

Marissa walked into the practice room and headed over to an empty corner. She put her bag on a table and pulled out her wand a piece of parchment and a squishy ball. She tossed the ball in the air a few times before picking up her wand. She tossed the ball in the air again and said, "Arresto momentum." and focused on slowing the ball down. The ball began to fall slower and she grabbed the ball as it came within her reach.

Adi caught his eraser which had descended slowly in his outstretched left hand. Awesome! He had done it on his first try! He had not been expecting it because he had never done it before which had caused the eraser to bounce off his forehead and the water balloon to burst on his face in the class.

"Let's see if I can do that again!'' The boy tossed the eraser up again. "Arresto Momentum!" He waved his wand, concentrated and kept his eye on Spidey.

During his free period, Angeal went out to the grounds to collect some things he could use as the subjects to practise the newly learned spell in Charms. He collected a few stones and twigs and when he went back to the Castle, he still had some time and decided to practise, which was why he headed towards the Charms practise room.

As he reached the room, he opened the door just to make a small gap. He peeked in, eyes wandering and after he was sure no one was in there, he entered, setting his bag at the corner along with his cloak. Angeal took out a few stones from his bag and walked to the centre of the room. Wand at the ready in his wand hand, he threw the stone upwards with his another. And when the stone descended, Angeal waved his wand in its direction. "ARRESTO MOMENTUM!" he spoke in the normal people's tone since his usual one was too soft. Albeit, it was confident enough for the spell to take effect as the stone still descended, but slowly...

After accomplishing slowing the ball down once she tossed the ball in the air again waving her wand she said, "Arresto momentum." Again the ball began slowing down. She waited as the ball fell into her hand and smiled. This is pretty easy she thought to herself.

Ooohh! He did it again! Adi's Spidey eraser was slowly falling towards him! He had never been so pleased! It looked like he was getting the hang of the spell! All it took was concentration. Plus the right incantation and wand movement, of course.

He grinned as he caught the eraser. He had managed to successfully cast the spell twice. Could he do it again? The badger tossed it again. "Arresto Momentum!" he called out confidently and waving the wand. He focused intently on the eraser, which was on its way back down...slowly! Yes! He had done it once more.

This room was not too shabby. There was even a fireplace. It was the first time Nigel was ever in here. Plus it was also better to practice this stuff with a partner. Especially when both had owls at the end of the term.

"Blue, Did you bring anything to throw?"

Nigel only had a rubber ball and some books. Guess the rubber ball could work and throwing books would be pretty funny. Only he did not want his favorite books ruined. That would not be fun. No.

Caleb decided to do his homework alone, because it was easier for him to focus if he wasn't waiting on someone to catch up with him. Because Caleb would OBVIOUSLY be a lot better than his partner at this. Obviously. He'd brought a number of things with him to practice with - a bag of jelly slugs, his planner that he'd used to practice with in class, and a comic of Marvin the Mad Muggle. Just whatever he could find laying around his dorm.

He decided to start with the planner first, to warm up. He pulled out his wand, took his planner in his right hand, and tossed it in the air. Then, he waved his wand immediately and muttered "Arresto Momentum!". He was focused, but he knew he wasn't focusing as much as he should have since he knew the goal was to slow down the item, not stop it completely. He watched as the planner slowed down and eventually came to his outstretched hand and lightly landed in his palm. There. Nice and easy.

Blue had put THOUGHT into what to bring. Some of them would work as motivation, hopefully. She didn't know about Nigel but she certainly worked best under pressure.

"I did indeed." BEAM.

She slung her backpack over her front and let it fall to the ground. The objects inside gave a little thump but she paid no heed to that. Once she zipped it open, she pulled out a teddy (a pretty unwilling volunteer, no doubt but it wasn't as if he could object), a quill and...a high heeled shoe and set them on the floor. You'd definitely want to be decent at the spell with that piece of high-fashion weaponry flying at you.

Blue picked up the teddy, just for starters. The shoe could be the grand finale. "You ready?"

"Awesome" While she was pulling out object from her bag. Nigel did the same. He took out a rubber ball and two books. One boring and the other one a favorite. Why did he have to bring an interesting book. This was not the way you should treat any type of book. Merlin.

Nigel took a look at the items that fell out of her bag. Besides the teddy bear. Those were some dangerous things to throw at people. Okay, So we are throwing a teddy bear. Not like Nigel could regret this. So he took out his wand and got ready to cast the spell.

"Alright then. I'm ready."

Nigel was not looking forward to the quill and the high heel.

If Nigel was freaked by her footwear, Blue didn't notice. For her, it had been a stroke of genius.

Alright.

Blue nodded. "One...Two...Three!"

And the bear was tossed straight at his face, yes it was.

Alright, time to move onto something different. The planner was easy and he'd practiced on it a lot, so he wanted to get started with another item. He decided to practice with the bag of jelly slugs. It was decently heavy and he would be able to tell if he slowed it down significantly or not.

He tossed it in the air, and just as he had with the planner, he waved his wand. "Arresto Momentum!" he called out. To his pleasant surprise, the bag of candy slowed down to a snails pace until it reached the ground. Much more successful than the planner!

Pssh, this charms stuff was EASYYY.

The only thing Nigel had to decide now. Is if he wanted to slow down the bear or stop it completely. He had to do both. But which to start. Since it was a bear and nothing dangerous. Slow Down seemed better.

Nigel waited until she tossed it, pointed his wand at the bear, waved his wand, and cast "Arresto Momentum!" .

And just like magic. The teddy bear slowed down in mid air. See now this was an easy catch. Nigel waited until it reach his hands. Then grabbed it.

"Okay. I will toss it back to you. One...Two...Three"

Blue grinned when it slowed down to a hover. "Nice one."

Okay, her turn. It was only a teddy this time so it wasn't like there was going to be any serious consequences if she messed up. And she wouldn't be messing up later. Not if loosing any facial features were as a result.

The Eaglette pulled out her wand and raised it on the two, leaning forward slightly as if she were about to take off in a marathon. When the teddy went up into the air, instead of running she let out a loud, "Arresto Momentum!"

Poor teddy. It slowed sluggishly and Blue reached up and snatched the ratty thing. "Finite." There, back to normal. Giving the toy a quick pat of the head, she dropped it to her feet and reached for the rubber bands. A little harder this time, yeah?

"One...Two...Three!"

The Teddy was okay now. That was something praise worthy. Not really. But both of our spells worked. Now they just had continue it with an increase degree of difficulty. Ah Ravenclaws. Now what, Rubber Bands.

"Don't poke my eye out" Nigel grinned. This was getting intense. Okay, same as before. "Arresto Momentum" Perhaps he was a little too lackadaisical because he did stop the rubber band. But it was a inch from his eye.Thank Merlin, it stopped.

"Finite" Nigel said once he grabbed it. The Prefect did not really want to launch the rubber band back at her. So he went into his bag and got out a book. Hmm. It was a terrible one. But still.

"One...Two...Three"

Now time for the comic. Caleb knew this would be the hardest to slow down and stop since it was so light and there wasn't much mass to stay afloat in the air. Opening the jelly slugs and popping a cherry flavored one in his mouth, he chewed on it, blinked a few times to get his concentration on point, and then tossed it in the air.

"Arresto Momentum!" he exclaimed, waving his wand as he aimed at the comic. It worked! It slowed down a LOT and floated to the ground softly, taking almost 10 seconds to make it down with the spell.

Awesome, now on to stopping the objects completely!

Okay, so now that the first part of the homework was done, it was time to complete the second part- completely stopping his eraser from falling. This was a bit more difficult for him but he was feeling pretty confident and he thought that if he kept up the concentration, he'd be able to get the job done.

Adi threw the eraser up and waited until it was on it's way back down before he cast the spell. "Arresto Momentum!" He waved his wand and concentrated. Yes! The eraser was frozen completely in mid air!
