| | Work Areas NORTH SIDE WORK AREA
On one end of the department you can find the work areas for MLES, Aurors and Security employees. Most don't spend too much time at their desks as they are likely out on assignment or patrol duty. Each of the division's heads has an office should you need to stop by and have a word with them. If you can't find who you're looking for, ask Muriel over at the reception desk to help you.
During major investigations the area is flooded with employees and perhaps witnesses who have been brought in to wait. On one wall there are many pictures and documents pinned with information from current investigations. Another wall and above many of the desks are moving posters of the most wanted criminals in the Wizarding World. When they are caught they are magically marked with a large red X.
Every Auror, Hit Wizard and MLES Officer has their own desk here. YATIs do not and will earn them once they have completed the training. It's slightly different for the Security employees. The Head of Security, the Event Security Liaison Officers, and the Internal Investigations Liaisons have their own permanent desks, while the Ministry Sentinels, Security Officers and Wand Weighers work between this office and the Security post in the atrium, and do not have a personal desk of their own.
Please be aware of your surroundings in this area. No one likes a snoop. You don't want to be top of the list if things go missing. SOUTH SIDE WORK AREA
On the opposite end of the department is an even larger work area with wide open spaces and lots of what looks like natural light. The windows have a beautiful view that changes from time to time, as it is charmed. The divisions are in separate areas but are not too far of a distance from each other.
Each of the division heads has an office. Every member of the MMAO, CMEC, and IUMO has their own permanent desks. The Wizengamot are based here but spend much of their time down in the courtrooms. However, they each have their own secure locker and you may on occasion find one or two of them working at a spare desk or going through a stack of court files and case histories.
The Forensics lab, a large storage room, the Evidence and Pensieve rooms, as well as the direct floo access aren't all too far from here. The conference room and the Department Head's office are a bit more of a walk. Make sure to keep a map on hand in case you lose your way the first few times in this department. |

| A Poop * k8 * The chances of Scottie being at his desk was very low. In fact, he only ever saw his desk three short minutes a day, usually: to drop off his stuff in the morning, MAYBE during his lunch, and then to pick up his things at the end of his work day. Some days he might eat lunch at his desk, but he preferred to be elsewhere. It was rare security had any desk work to do, but he supposed it was out of decorum that he had one at all.
It was a rare day where he had just gotten off duty at the entrance. He had a horrendous headache, and he needed a quick stop at his desk to take a bit of a potion to help out with that. He sat at his chair, pulled open the top drawer, and groooooaaaaaaned at the lack of potion vial. WHERE HAD IT GONE? He hadn't even NEEDED it yet since he started at the ministry almost - what was it - a year ago?!
He rubbed his forehead before groaning again.

He rubbed his forehead before groaning again. A little paper airplane, like the memos from the good old days when a much older Ferguson worked in this very office, floated into the work area and over to Scott Ferguson's desk. This was no ordinary memo, though. It was an exquisitely folded piece of thick cardstock and was emblazoned with the logo of The Ministry of Magic. Just a bit of golden font reading From the Desk of Senior Undersecretary Fletcher was also visible at the top of the plane.
The airplane hovered above the security officer's head as he groaned, quivering a little in the extra wind caused by his exhale, and then it dive-bomb-landed next to Scottie's hand. It continued to twitch there, eager for him to open it and follow its instructions, the last part of which stated BURN IMMEDIATELY AFTER READING.
What a lovely memo!

What a lovely memo! His misery was uprooted only by the folded memo. It had Fletcher's name on it, and Scottie felt his heart THUMP. What could the Undersecretary want with him? Did he need help with a cat again? What was in the memo, however, was not at all what he had imagined. IF HE WANTED TO KEEP HIS JOB?!
Scottie was being fired. He just KNEW it. With his eyes widened, he ran from his work area with all the speed he knew his brother would be proud of. Was he running laps for a muggle physical education class (of which Scottie thought he would ABHOR from muggle films he had seen)? NO.
HE WAS RUNNING FOR HIS LIIIIIIIIIIFE. You know, burning the letter as he did so using his wand.

| open, come play? Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight Jake's actual desk had a real air of abandonment about it lately, with how little time he'd been spending there. Even when he was up on Level Two as opposed to out on the job, he still couldn't face sitting there for very long. This had been especially true since the events at the start of the year, though the logic wasn't very... logical.
Regardless, in the period of time between finishing all that awful paperwork and the start of his next patrol, Jake had drifted away from his desk once more and ended up in front of the information board once again. He stood there, arms folded and brow creased, scanning through each document and information sheet until the words swam a little too much for him to stick with them, at which point he moved on. Though initially Jake had approached the board to see if he could find anything - or, perhaps more likely, fail to find something that should have been here - which pertained to the current situation, he soon ended up doing exactly what he did every other time he stood here. As his eyes roved around the information, Jake silently searched for any face, key characteristic, modus operandi, literally anything that he might have recognised. With all the kids he'd mentored over the years, and one of his errant spawn out in the world doing who-even-knew-what, it was a fairly valid worry.
Not one that was recognised today though, apparently, so that was... something.

| Hai! It's-a me! Zoe! :) Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Mrs. Charlie Weasley | Seneca's Beard | That's So Fetch Frankie's desk also had been abandoned for the most part. Due to all of these changes, he had taken on more patrols than normal, voluntarily, just so he didn't have to spend much time in a department he felt had gone topsy-turvy. Even the paperwork he had to do was taken elsewhere (and, honestly, he was doing a better job at filling it out now that he was taking his sweet old time getting it done in his 'safe place'). But avoiding Level Two completely was impossible. He still needed to turn in the paperwork, receive new assignments, fill out more paperwork, repeat.
The filled out forms in his hand were the reason for his appearance in the work area. With a grunt he tossed the paperwork where it needed to go. How many had he turned in this week? The Auror couldn't recall. That didn't really matter to him, not any more. All he wanted to do now was to snag another assignment so he could leave.
"Upstead," he greeted the man with a slight nod of his head as he eyed the board.

| *throws a Ronan at y'all* Dem Carters | even 🕊🕊 have pride | | Expecto PAWtronum 🐈 | U-NA-GI As much as the Ministry's new decorations disgusted him, Ronan had made it a point to stop into Level Two at least for a few hours a day. Hey, someone had to keep an eye on Goldwasser things around here. Besides, home wasn't exactly conducive to doing paperwork these days and patrols just ended up depressing him, reminding him of just how much a fully magical life would suck (he really liked tv and the Internet and having whatever he wanted delivered right to his door and muggle music.....).
Though, the Ministry building wasn't much of a picnic either these days. Everyone was tense, there was the aforementioned decor and there were reminders everywhere that, no matter what the majority of employees might think, blood status mattered quite a bit to these Neo-Alliance idiots and they were quite intent on forcing their beliefs on everyone else. Reminded him of certain groups in the Muggle world, ironically enough.
Coming back from the bathroom, he noticed a couple of his fellow aurors had also stopped in. "Hey," he greeted casually, taking a seat back at his desk. Now, where was that report he had intended to start on?

With the...new order...and all the transformations around the ministry--and likely soon the rest of the wizarding--it should've surprised no one to find that Alexa Cambridge was seldom in office. She preferred it that way and liked that most of her team was also taking that route. She wasn't sure what they could do and would rather not have any of them sticking around long enough to get themselves killed for defiance...or giving the wrong look.
Today, Lex brought her own papers in. It was hard to concentrate at her desk...and just as hard concentrating at home. If this was the situation here, she was really starting to rethink all the Minister had said about Hogwarts. Worried as it left her, there was little she could do.
Given the current regime, she didn't expect any clearance to take a team over. She also didn't see herself just being allowed to walk in. "Looks like we all got the same idea today." The Head Auror said, moving into the work area and seeing a few members of her team. Did they all have paperwork to turn in? "Anyone seen the bossman yet?" Asking...for a friend. There were things she'd rather not discuss with him looming somewhere close by. "Anything new on the board there?" She asked, nodding toward Upstead. There was a look she gave. One that insisted he say there was, even if there wasn't.

| *elmo fire* Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight Briefly flicking his eyes away from the board, long enough to see who was there just before he actually spoke, Jake nodded in response. "Paton. Some things never change," he remarked, staring up at the information on offer. "Still plenty to be getting on with." Jury was still out on whether that was good or bad. Crime was bad, yes, that was a given, and he stuck firmly to that principle as much as his job required, and then some. But it also got them out of the Ministry itself, more than most other unlucky employees.
Hearing another set of footsteps, Jake turned to see Ronan Carter. That young man made him a little uneasy, not in the sense that he was particularly unnerving, but merely because the situation at the gala - when Carter had tried to step in - was still fresh in Jake's memory. He hadn't seen that one Unspeakable since he'd been led away. Admittedly, Jake had seldom seen the man before that night, but then there was Milo Jordan, who had also vanished. Officially missing, in fact. Jake had to wonder if any of that was on the cards for his colleague as well, and if they'd even be able to do anything about that if so. Not to mention, when he thought about Jordan, it set him off thinking about Hogwarts, what might be (was almost certainly) happening there, and how the three of his children currently enrolled had a tendency to mouth off, or antagonise authority, or simply speak up at the absolute worst possible moment...
Uh, so yes. Uneasy. But nothing personal.
Rather than voice any of this, Jake just greeted the other Auror with a second nod, and a, "Hey," but was spared from having to think of what else to add, thanks to the arrival of Alexa Cambridge. "Seems so," he replied, turning to see her better, then shaking his head regarding Goldwasser. No doubt the man was off confiscating lollipops from babies - seemed the type - but Jake had just about enough of a brain in his head to swerve around that joke. He was just about to reply in the negative to Cambridge's second question as well, but something in her look made him think twice. It took him a moment, but he soon got the meaning behind it... or, at least, he hoped he did. "N-... oh, actually, yes. Some new leads on the case with the dodgy Imperius Curse." Jake turned as if to relocate said information, which was indeed up there, but had actually appeared the day before. Any Auror worth their salt would have seen it already.

| Oh hai friends! <3 Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Mrs. Charlie Weasley | Seneca's Beard | That's So Fetch The board was ... well, Jake was right in saying that some things never changed. Glancing from one note to the next, nothing on it seemed new. But, nevertheless, they still had those assignments to take care of. New or not, Frankie was willing to take one whatever sounded interesting (and time-consuming) and get right to it. "Never a dull moment in this department," he commented in response. "Even with everyth --"
An abrupt pause occurred when Ronan appeared and sat at his desk. Normally he would have finished whatever he had to say, but Frankie remembered the events of the gala quite well. He still wasn't completely certain about Ronan; the fact he had stepped in to help handle Milo Jordan though hadn't disappeared with the lot was just conflicting. "Hey, Carter," he addressed the younger man. Cordiality was something he could manage for now at the very least.
It really was an odd feeling not being certain you could trust someone. But these were changing times. Ronan's presence made his mind start to go on a tangent about everything that was going on. Then Alexa showed up, which only made him fleetingly think of Hogwarts. They all were int he dark about what all was going not here, and he couldn't imagine what it must be like being a parent of a student who was at the school right now. It made him wonder if they would have to find somewhere else to enroll Melody in a couple terms or if they would just homeschool her.
The mention of the bossman brought him out of his thoughts. "Haven't seen him." Quite frankly, he was just fine with that. The odds of them all not having to see him would lessen the sooner they all took on another assignment. He glanced over at Jake and then the board at the mention of the dodgy Imperious Curse. Frankie was aware those 'new leads' had been there before, but he was more than willing to act otherwise.

| *throws a wild YATI in all your ways* *sappysapper* MAJNOO, YO! Missa wasn't snooping. No, not at all. (Yes, yes she was). She was just interested and couldn't keep to herself whenever she got the chance to visit the department. It was both inspiring and tempting to see actual, REAL Aurors at work.
She wanted to be one of them one day, okay?
So, naturally, when she had to check in with her progress, and to maybe find out what in merlin's name was actually going on with Eiji's grandfather, she made sure to make her way over to first group of Aurors she saw standing.
They were the GOOD kind of bunch too, you know. Definitely ones she admired and it showed on her face when she peeked at that board they were looking at, "anything on there any one of you might need any assistance with?" she asked politely - assistance with patrols had been nice the first ten times, but it would be SO COOL to actually help with a case.

Yes, he was aware that others were uneasy around him ever since the gala but it was just easier to ignore it. He had enough on his plate without worrying about that too. He just blew past the uneasiness with the same casual demeanor he'd been employing for everything ministry-related lately. "Nope, haven't seen him yet," he replied to Alexa's question.
As for the dodgy Imperius Curse? He'd been avoiding that particular case. Ronan had no patience for idiots and the person who'd done that had to be a massive one. Though, he might end up having to take one for the team, so to speak, if no one else took it. "Depends. Anything up there interest you?" he replied to Renaldi with a genuine chuckle. Hey, he remembered his own days in the program and how boring the constant patrols were.

No sign of the boss. Good. Lex had never been a fan of the man, not with the way he'd spoken about her team--a good team, mind you. Hard workers. Put their lives on the line daily and were not glorified ministry security guards. There was a security division. She would thank Goldwasser to take up all his ministry orientation mishaps with them.
Most Aurors didn't have the time to attend the orientation to welcome new employees. Y'know, actual crime happening on and off schedule.
With recent events, there were a lot of things about that man that left her with new questions. It was just better having him out of office these days.
Lex spared a glance at one of their new recruits...Renaldi it might have been but left her to Carter as he was already volunteering. Instead, she focused on Jake with another glance at Frankie. "Interesting. Sounds urgent enough." She knew the case he was referring to. On her way to get a file from her desk yesterday, she'd spared a glance at the board before deciding she had enough on her plate and didn't need irritatingly stupid crimes adding to that load. "Could prove problematic if too many more people try the same. Can't imagine Ministry safety, wizarding world safety..." She rattled off a few. "Can't imagine the Neo Alliance will be too happy when everyone starts turning into each other. That'd be...problematic. There might be something over in evidence for us to get a crack on. Anyone with some free time to take a look with me?"
Rather, she needed a word with them and the open work area was the absolute last place to do it.

| Bathes in Maple Syrup | Dancing Lobster | Mrs. Charlie Weasley | Seneca's Beard | That's So Fetch He half expected Bain to appear out of nowhere. The man had an odd habit of showing up when you least wanted to see him. But, thankfully, the department head didn't seem to be anywhere in sight. Knock on wood. If the man did appear, he knew where the exit was. He would grab one of the assignments from the board and leave faster than he could say 'Quidditch.'
The blond gave the YATI a friendly smile when she made an appearance, though left her to speak with Carter since he had struck up conversation with her. Frankie's attention was on Jake and Alexa, the latter of whom mentioned something about something in evidence. Having worked with Alexa long enough, he assumed she had something to say and wanted to do so in a more private space. And if she didn't, well, looking at something in evidence was important and all of that.
"Yeah, let's go take a look," he responded. "Coming along?" The question was mostly directed at Jake.

| Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight Having ostensibly found the information in question once again, Jake reached up to take a copy of the document down for reference, though he was sure by now - call it intuition - that this was not, exactly, going to be the real focus of the moment. "Count me in," he said in reply to Alexa and Franklin both, turning back to them and folding the parchment over loosely in his fingers. Jake had a smile to spare for the YATI - Renaldi, he was certain of that name - and a quick nod of the head in greeting. "Good luck," he added to her, regarding whatever case she decided to try and tackle with Carter. The job was less about luck, and more about skill, of course, but it was the thing to say. Sort of. Sometimes. And luck did often play a part.
This wasn't the time to go ruminating on the most socially acceptable phrasing. Nor the job for it, at least not this aspect of the job. More important stuff to deal with, and, speaking of which, he started away from the information board, intending to move along with Alexa and Franklin.

| Made of Awesome | Ern-la the Best-wa | TZ's Apogee Vivi spun her wand between her fingers and watched as people congregated in front of the information board not far from her desk. She knew that fewer people were doing desk work these days, either opting for time in the field doing who knows what or just wandering the hallways like lost lambs, but Vivi didn't mind desk work. Sifting warrants, ensuring that what crossed her desk got her special attention... there was some real control over her personal situation that she appreciated.
These loiterers were interesting, though. Saying more than they were saying, which everyone seemed to be doing lately. She tossed her wand one last time before tucking it into her holster and shoving up from her desk. "Move along, nerds," the Senior Auror waved a hand good-naturedly. "You're blocking my path to the coffee pot. That's a direct violation of my personal rights as an employee of this great organization."

Lex would always appreciate being able to have conversations with her team without actually having to say anything. In these times when you didn’t know left from right or who to really...believe—and with WAY too much information disappearing or suddenly being off limits, it was important to have this kind of communication still in tact.
She was about to turn, lead the way over to the evidence room when Vivi joined them.
Even better. “Coffee later, ensuring we don’t have a potential imperio epidemic on our hands now. Could really use the extra eyes, Vivi.” Which, by default meant Carter and Renaldi if they wanted to come but she wouldn’t be compelling either. Too many would draw attention anyway.
And with that, Alexa turned and headed from the work area, trusting the others would be coming along.

| Up from the Golden Gates. Mom says I have no sense of direction, so I packed my bags and right. Saul X wasted no time and did not wait for a response from Scotty or Fletcher, or from anyone else for that matter. He took the lift to the Law Enforcement Offices and went straight past the reception desk then moved into work area. He made a quick stop at his IUMO Office. Most of his things had been removed. It looked bare. Photos of his family, his Mother and Father gone. Who knows what was done with his personal things. That wasn't important.
Saul kept his wand drawn and his spare at the ready in his holster. "Bain?!" Saul said as he moved toward the hall that lead to the Head's Office and the Conference Room. "Goldwasser. It's Saul Primeaux. I thought we could continue our chat a bit more!" The work area was empty. Many of the Aurors must be out on assignment. He wondered if his underling Arabella was out on a job as well. Regardless of that, he was making his presence known now. He stopped just a moment to see the windows around him change scenery the magically artificial light shinning down on him before it changed it's imagery once more.
Next was his office. If he wasn't here Saul would go to the Minister's Office next. Perhaps find someone to help him locate the Vampire. |

Gabriel was supposed to shadow an Auror today, as part of his YATI training. Or...well, that's what he thought from the quick glance at his schedule. He'd been wrong about the schedule before.
He was early today, as it wouldn't do to be late if someone was waiting for him. Was anybody here yet? He started meandering around the Aurors' desks. Gabriel started poking his head into the cubicles as he wandered, looking for one of the Real Aurors. Y'know, not a YATI. Somebody he could pester with questions pre-morning caffeine. Not that he was pre-coffee, he'd had a cup at home and picked up another on his way in. Lots of caffeine for Gabriel. He was ready to ask questions. |

Regretfully (thankfully? maybe thankfully, what with the horde of kids to look after and all) Jake was an Auror no longer. Still had plenty of business in and around the Auror office, of course, and though it made more sense to send memos for people to come to him when they were available (unpredictability of the job and all), Jake had come to find that sitting in his office or meetings all the time was... terrible. Really just terrible. 2/10, would start climbing the walls if he had to spend yet another consecutive day stuck behind a desk.
But he was sure he'd get used to it, especially as it was well worth the salary, which was what Jake and the horde had sorely needed. Jonah and Jackson had a big birthday coming up (eleven... already Jake was thinking of writing to Malachi Trent with the heads up that he had two more Upsteads headed his way) and he was looking forward to splashing out on them a bit more than usual, as he and Becca had on the quads and planned to do with the eldest three when their birthdays rolled around. Hopefully, that trend could continue for a while. Maybe they'd even be able to save, hold some galleons back just in case, but that was probably asking a lot.
Passing through the work areas - it was a no-go on finding who he was looking for, which was not totally unexpected - he happened across one of the YATIs. Hopefully not snooping; bad idea around these parts. "Gabriel," Jake said by way of greeting, coming to a stop nearby. "Looking for anything in particular?" Or anyone? They could absolutely find him something to do, if necessary.

Gabriel was not snooping, for the record, as much as it may have looked like it. As soon as he saw a cubicle was empty, he was moving on. He figured he just had to ask to get the scoop on most of the active investigations, and he wasn't about to jeopardize his future Auror career by prying where he didn't belong.
At least not on purpose.
Still, despite doing nothing wrong, he somehow felt guilty when Mr. Upstead addressed him. His face probably looked guilty for half a moment, too, before the expression was swallowed by a cheerful grin. He did enjoy his job, after all, and Mr. Upstead was pretty cool. Definitely his favorite department head. Which wasn't saying much, since he was only being compared to Bain. "Hey, Mr. Upstead," Gabriel said. Wait, didn't Mr. Upstead not like being called that? Better fix it. "Oh--sorry, Jake."
He shook his head. "Not super particular...just...well...I think I'm supposed to shadow an Auror today? But it seems like nobody's around." He was absolutely open to doing something else, though, if there was an urgent law enforcement task that needed doing. He was more than halfway through the YATI training, surely he could do something somewhat productive sometimes. |

| Continuing from the Mid-Level Corridors *randomly tagged* | Norbert(a) | The Wandmaker (tm) A silvery Sibeiran Husky burst into the room. He circled desks and looked like he was yapping loudly, but no barking came from the patronus' mouth. Instead, came the voice of the DIMC Department Head Conley Singh-Phora. "Help is needed in the corridors between Levels 4 and 5." The Husky repeated the message circling a few desks, making sure someone heard him and would respond before sitting down on it's haunches as if it planned on watching to make sure someone responded to the message.

| oop let's head to the place Lovely™ | Captain Hurted | Ariana's Bane | Resident Antagonist | Unparalleled Delight There was a time Jake might have missed the guilt on Gabriel's face, took long enough to try and place it that it was gone before he could get there. A long time in this department had remedied that somewhat, but even though he noticed it, he thought little of it. "Could all be out on jobs at the moment. With the fallout of everything, trouble keeps springing up." Neo-Alliance stuff. Not even actual Neo-Alliance members or sympathisers necessarily, but wannabes and pretenders, and occasionally arguments about such sensitive matters getting out of hand and escalating into dangerous duels. And more claims and reports of so-and-so's neighbour being 'part of that Rosier lot' than Jake would have known what to do with, if he was still out of the field. Everything needed addressing with the same attention to detail as usual, and the Law Enforcement team was playing a blinder. "Or they're just grabbing food."
Jake was meant to jest that Melo could come help sort through his paperwork with him - urgent, important, and productive, if not exactly what he was in training for - when the patronus appeared. He didn't even need to think, drew his wand at once and beckoned for the YATI to follow him, already on the way out. "Let's go." The shadowing could wait. Or maybe this would be it, though Jake was no longer an Auror. Call it on-the-job experience.
