Arriving at the barnyard, you weren't surprised to see the usual signs directing you on which way to go. The signs direct you onto a path leading past the treehouse and other notable areas on the Grounds into a wall of thick hedges. Venturing through the hedges throughout the many trees you find a clearing decorated with park benches surrounded by thick bushes. Occasionally you hear soft giggling and buzzing noises in the far background. Sitting on one of the tables is Professor Thompson waiting on you. Better get comfortable while you still can.

They were actually doing this? Like... they were... capturing fairies?
HAHAHAHAHHAA.
They WERE actually doing this, and better yet, the methods were downright hilarious.
On the one hand, while he longed to use his wand and learn new spells, he had a task to complete. So maybe now wasn't the time to fiddle and muddle around TRYING to do something. No. NOWWWW... he would do what he new best. He would chase, hunt and CAPTURE the fairies using nothing but his hands and his jar.
Heheeee!
Doing his best to LOOK stealthy, Zeke walked aimless and then when he spied the perfect fairy and close by, he ........ RAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNN after it!
Angel looked at Kevin as he performed the spell and she went and put the fairy in the jar... she still wasn't sure if she liked this or not because well it was totally unfair on the fairies two v one an all how would the Professor like it if it was 2-1 for the fairies... Angel had a funny feeling he wouldn't be she wasn't going to say anything.

Angel turned back at Kevin just in time to see a spell aimed at someone. "Kevin why you trying to jinx the poor lass?" Angel wanted to know because seriously it wasn't right.

Okay.... this was a BAD idea.
Why?
Well 1) running was hard, 2) he wasn't fast enough, 3) fairies were faster than they appeared, and 4) trapping a flying one in a jar was super hard.
Bad bad bad bad bad idea.
Zeke paused a moment to catch his breath and to think this through. There had to be a better, easier way to go about this. One that didn't involve him sweating like a big in his robes. Robes, SUPER inconvenient man!!!.......
In the end though, he didn't know the spell thing that the others were using, so he could only keep doing what he was doing. Right?
This time though, he'd stand still and WAIT for a fairy to come to HIM. If it flew low enough, and slow enough, he might be able to do that the Professor had done and quickly bring the jar around it and snap the lid on it. One could only hope.
Standing casually, Zeke waited.... waited.... and waited some more.

Eden was trapped. In a bubble. With her jar, at least, and the fairy. She jabbed her wand into the lining of the bubble and was SHOCKED when it just bounced back at her. WHAT THE HECK. SHe stood--abruptly--still ENTOMBED in this BUBBLE and GLAAAAAARED at Kevin. "GET ME OUT OF THIS BUBBLE RIGHT NOW!" she cried, stomping her foot impatiently at him, her eyes glancing at the professor. While she didn't WANT to be trapped in here, she also didn't want the professor to see the commotion BECAUSE she didn't want to cause a scene, okay? She just needed to get out of this BUBBBBBLE HAAAAAALP!
The Creature Professor for a while watched to see how things were going. Everyone was doing perfectly fine going according to plan, leaving him to continue getting another fairy to add in his jar. Yes, he too was collecting. This time he had his wand out and with a sharp flick, wordlessly freezing one fairy before summoning it over to place in his jar. Closing the lid immediately so the now two fairies were safe and sound. Turning his head to observe the students again.
Javier had to do a double-take for this. At the sight of a student being trapped in a bubble with her jar. It was actually quite an impressive display of magic, considering the size of it. But of course, this was not amusing and the apparent castor had evidently proven his infamous reputation making him walked right over to the scene.
His face was blank, but his eyes told a different story as he used his wand to motion over the bubble, effectively vanishing it. So the young lady was free now.. But as for the Gryffindor. "Congratulations Mr. Hirase.. you have just caught yourself a detention in addition to 5 points from Gryffindor." Because there was no mistakening where he aimed and what point would there be if he was actually intended to wrap a fairy in a bubble when the bubble wouldn't be able to fit into the jar.
Once that situation was for the time being dealt with. It was clear the students had their excitement for the day as his voice maintained its eery calm tone. "That'll do everyone.. let's head on back to the benches with what you collected." Leading back past the hedges making another entry with it for the students to cross. Waiting until they were all back in the clearing. The high pitched buzzing and giggling noise subsided at a greater volume than previously once everyone was seated.
"Now then.. who can share with me another creature that shares a trait in common to these fairies and how so?" Meanwhile the fairies in Javy's jar looked to be conversing with one another, not paying attention to anyone else outside the jar.

WHAATTT?! WHAAATT?!.... maaannnn... he hadn't gotten his fairy yett!!!!!!!!
...
....
Being a firstie SUCKED. He needed to know things, so he could DO things quicker.
Glancing around VERY quickly, looking for A fairy he could maybe snag, Zeke held his jar open, waited and ready. HURRY UP STINKING FAIRIES!!!..
At least there were some about, and better yet, with everyone else having caught theirs, they weren't panicked and quick... so slowly.... sneakily... he held up his jar and... waited... still...
Turning, he could see a fairy moving past him but fairly close by, within arms reach at least... and this was his chance. This was his shot. Swiftly, his arms spun out so that the fairy was going face first into the jar and then...
CLAP!
... he jammed the jar lid back on top.
He did it. He did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Following the Professor and other students back to the seating area, he observed the creature in the glass prison in his hands. HAHA!
Uuhhh... common traits?
"Doxies, Sir?" he said, raising his hand. "They're small and very much like these."
Once again, Toby was completely lost in fairy world and had gone back to ignoring all the bubble shenanigans. He was essentially having a full-blown, one-sided conversation with the fairies in his jar. Professor Thompson was speaking so calmly that Toby didn't register he was speaking at all. It wasn't people started heading back to the clearing that he realised the time for the activity was up.
His own jar was still unlidded, and he had to fix that before heading back.
"I'm gonna need to put the lid on now you guys," the Hufflepuff whispered to the fairies, holding up the lid and miming screwing it back onto the jar. "I'll let you out later though, I promise. Thompson said so."
He waited a moment or two for the fairies to decide what they were doing, and finally screwed the lid on the jar, and counting a total of four of the little creatures all chilling out inside. Neat.
Finally, Toby got to his feet and headed back towards the area where the benches were, pausing to hand off Zahra's jar as he did so. He took a seat, and TRIED to focus on Thompson, but was still pretty enthralled with the fairies. Still, he'd heard that question, and raised a hand.
"Humans," the boy offered, still staring through the glass of his jar. "'Cause they're kinda the same body shape as us, but really small. And have wings. And can fly. And glow." Maybe not that similar, but still a liiiiiiiiittle bit. "... We have similar faces."
That would do, right?

Sophie peeked in at the two fairies in her jar, examining them closely and marveling at their wings. She knew these were a common ingredient in potions, but she had never actually seen them on a real fairy. It... almost made her feel a little bad about using them. A wingless fairy?
Hopefully those were all collected after they passed away.
She only briefly eyed Kevin over there - detention was becoming a pretty regular thing for him, wasn't it? - and as Thompson led them back to the benches, Soph glanced at Tobes and Z-... oh. No Zahra there anymore. Maybe they weren't as close as it seemed? Feeling a little relief, she returned to her spot on the bench and set the jar nicely in her lap. What creatures were like a fairy? Besides doxies and humans? "Erm... leprechauns?" she offered, her hand raised. "They also are human-like in appearance and really small, only up to five or six inches in height, I think." She wasn't entirely sure just how tall either of them got, but she was pretty sure they were about the same size. Probably.

He returned Ethan's high five and then slowly made his way back to the benches. Raising his hand, slowly to answer the question. "Hippogriffs, sir." Very different in size and all, but they did have one thing in common. "'Cause they both fly." The hippogriffs and fairies that is.
Couldn't help but smile at the human thing though. That was kinda a stretch.

Angel looked at the Professor and smiled. "A pixie." Angel wasn't really that interested at the minute... she wanted to know why Kevin had just jinxed someone for no reason what-so-ever apparently. "They can fly and they are small just like a fairy." Angel said truthfully.
Norah's shoulders slumped as she turned to leave with the rest of the class. No more fairy fun? But she hadn't even found a replacement for Rosie! She looked at the lone fairy in her jar and quickly turned back so she was a little behind the rest of the students. Choosing a random fairy, she whispered "Immobulus" and carefully unscrewed the lid of her jar so her other fairy didn't escape. Victory! Ahem. Nobody had seen that, right?
Hurrying to catch up, Norah pondered the Professor's question. Hmmmmm. She raised her hand. "Unicorns, because they're both pretty." Uh-huh. There was no denying that. She would also like to keep both of them as pets. TWO whole commonalities right there. She had this question in the BAG.

Then he moved to do the same with the other one - and the jar ALMOST slipped out of his hands for a moment as he was trying to situate it so the next one would slip in easily, and the frozen fairy already inside nearly fell out, BUT he steadied it with both hands at the last minute because he was totally smooth and awesome so it was all good. He slipped the jar over the other one and closed the lid over the opening. Two fairies. Perfect.
"Nice spellwork there, partner." He grinned.
So they were done with the activity now? Not too bad overall then.
"We make a good team." In SO many things, hmm? She winked at him and then the professor was calling them over again. She led the way back over to their bench and sat down comfortably, her jar at one side.
Oh this was a question she could answer! Ruby put her hand up.
"Fairies are like Flitterby moths professor, they fly and sound like they're laughing when they do." Just like how the fairies were laughing.

Ethan followed the rest of the class and sat beside Zander. Huh? What other creatures were similar to fairies? Err...all the creatures he knew were already mentioned so he just sat there and took mental notes.
He was however distracted, because the fairy inside his jar was poking its immobilized companion.
Hehe. Funny.

The activity was over and Professor Thompson wanted everyone to assemble again, so Lux made her way back over to the benches with her fairy. Hopefully the little thing wasn't a mad at her, because keeping her in a jar wasn't the nicest thing to do. Soon she would be released and back with her fairy friends in the bushes.
Contemplating the question, she wanted to say mermaids, but only because she loved mermaids. What they had in common with fairies was beyond her, so she kept silent.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Samantha was looking at the fairies in her jar as she sat down on the bench. The fairies seemed to be sitting on the bottom of the jar looking rather bored. Samantha didn't bother raising her hand as the answer she was going to give had already been said. She sat and listened attentively to the class.

Kevin threw his head back and laughed when the Wannabe-Gryffindor was trapped inside the giant bubble. He watched as she tried to poke her way out of it but as he he knew it wasn’t possible to do that from the inside. She was trapped FOREVAAAH!
The glare did nothing to him and he just grinned back. “hmmm…nope” he answered and turned away to focus his attention back to Angel.

Ian was very nearly on the way to capturing a fairy when the professor said it was time to be done. He frowned and looked at his empty jar and at the fairy occupied ones of his classmates. He was disappointed, but it want the first time he'd failed to complete a task in class. He followed the professor to the clearing where his satchel lay and he put his silent, fairy deficient jar back in it.
Ian thought as he listened to the other students answers and he mentioned, Would nymphs be correct, or would they be another type of fairy? Ian wasn't quite sure of the zoology of fairies and nymphs so the could be different.

Carrying her jar in her hands she followed the Professor back to the benches. Sitting down on the same bench as earlier she held the jar up so she could peer inside it at the two fairies. They still didn't seem to be very happy with her for capturing them in a jar.
Holding the jar on her knee with one hand Hady raised her other hand into the air. "How about the butterfly Professor? Fairies and butterflies both have beautiful wings and their growing process is about the same...from an egg to a caterpillar or larvae and then into cocoon. When they come out their full grown as the butterfly or fairy." She'd read up as much as she could on fairies and many other animals/creatures growing up because it was her passion so far in life.

Agatha smiiirrrkkkeeedddd evilly at him when the professor announced it then waited until the man was further away from them and let out a LAUGH at the Gryffindor boy, making sure he could see and hear her. That was brilliant.
The Slytherin went back to her seat with two fairies in her jar and crossed on leg over the other. She listened to professor Thompson with the smirk still on her face and raised a hand when he asked the next question. "Doxies." They were Dark fairies, she thought. Disgusting-looking fairies. She wished she knew more about them. Hopefully thta would be the lesson's next topic.

Oh, they were done? Fantastic. GOOD.
No sarcasm because he was that freaking happy about this.
Wasting NO time, Grayson headed back towards the clearing in which they were before. He kept his eyes on his jar and the two fairies within just to make sure that they were still there. Because the last thing he wanted was to find out that all of his hard work had gone to waste and that the fairies had disappeared again.
And had someone gotten detention? Lulz. Considering it was Thompson............ lulz. He half wondered if they were going to be made to scoop out poop that had been left behind by magical creatures without magic. Man, if that was what the detention was going to consist of, Grayson did NOT envy that Gryffindor kid over there.
What creatures were similar to pixies? See, he would have gone for Doxies but that answer had already been said soooooooooo, he would go for another one, instead. "Imps, sir," he said, raising a hand in the air, "They're a similar height to fairies but that's it. That's where the similarities stop, really." Because Imps were dull in colour and couldn't fly.

Kevin just jinxed a girl. Yes, AJ caught that. What happened? All she knew was that he now had a detention and a point loss. AJ missed what happened before the jinx since she was so caught up in catching the fairies. Oh well, not her issue.
She followed the professor back over to the bench. As far as his next question everybody had already said what creatures she could think of. Instead of repeating the exact same answers, AJ put her face up to her jar and stared at the fairies. She was totally paying attention here. She was just in agreement.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Adi high fived the guy bestie just Professor announced that the activity was over. It was a good thing the Lion and the Badger had wasted no time in capturing their fairies. Adi glanced over to Benny's jar as they headed back to the benched. He was not one bit surprised to see one fairy glaring at him. That would be Cheeky Fairy.
Right. So this next question. "Cornish Pixies, Professor,'' Adi said, his hand up as he shot another look at Benny's jar.
Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna
They seemed to have finished catching their pixies right on time. For no sooner had they been congradulating themselves was the professor telling them to come back and regroup once more for the class to finish up. As for the question that was posed to them all, he was beaten to nearly anyone that made any sense, including the Cornish pixies that Adi added into the discussion.
Catching the look his way, or rather his jar as he sat down with the rest of them, Ben followed his bestie's look at the pixies. One clearly awake in his jar and given a reminder of the earlier behavior, the fourth year instinctively twisted the jar top on tighter. Yep...they certainly could have pixie behavior, he mused to himself, exchanging a knowing glance with the Hufflepuff but not answering the professor since he had nothing new.

Eden was just looking everywhere-----
Oh.
Professor long-hair was coming her way, and she just looked SO relieved when he finally let her loose. SHE WAS FREEE. SHE WAS FREE. Hehehe. "Thanks, Professor--Thompson--" that was his name, right? "I would so hug you right now if I knew you better--" she said awkwardly, blushing slightly and tucking her hair behind her ears. She had her ONE fairy with her, and she just...SIGH. She had really wanted to get TWO fairies....but that would have to be enough.
She glared at Kevin. "You deserve that detention--" she hissed at him. Stupid lion. Weren't they all dumb in their own way?! Hmm. She stuck out her tongue at him when the professor wasn't looking. HA. She wiggled her bum in TRIUMPH.
Back to class, though. She thought about the fairies...and then...hmm. "Fairies and merpeople are kind of similar. But only because they both miiiiildly resemble humas." Fairies were a lot prettier, though. "Also, Fairies speak their own language to each other, as so Mer people." She ended with a nod.

Kace nodded and followed the class to the benches. He caught two fairies all by himself. He felt accomplished. The fairies seemed to be talking to each other in the jar. Maybe they were plotting to get out of the jar. But it must be enchanted so they thought why not have a little talk. As he looked up he noticed the professor asked them another question. What creature shares a trait with the fairies and how so? Hmm....
Kace raised his hand, "Professor I think fireflies can share a trait because they are impossible to catch sometimes and plus they glow in the night time.." he shrugged and continued to look at his jar.

"Certainly.." Would've been nice to hear a reason from the young lady too but oh well.
SPOILER!!: Pixies

Right. So this next question. "Cornish Pixies, Professor,'' Adi said, his hand up as he shot another look at Benny's jar.

"Yes they are quite similar."

"Wood nymphs will do, yes.." Curtly nodding.

The Professor's face for a moment was unreadable as he pondered, "An interesting comparison Mr.Tempus.."

Probably.
"Indeed, they share in common having a shorter statue."

Couldn't help but smile at the human thing though. That was kinda a stretch.
"A quaint but fair comparison."

"Indeed, though Unicorns are more humble than fairies on their appearance."

Oh this was a question she could answer! Ruby put her hand up.
"Fairies are like Flitterby moths professor, they fly and sound like they're laughing when they do." Just like how the fairies were laughing.
"Very good, Miss Banner."

"While butterflies aren't considered magical, that is a fine comparison."

"Correct."

What creature shares a trait with the fairies and how so? Hmm....
Kace raised his hand, "Professor I think fireflies can share a trait because they are impossible to catch sometimes and plus they glow in the night time.." he shrugged and continued to look at his jar.
"Indeed. Hence why many choose to observe their beauty from afar."
"Good.. and that is why it is important to handle every creature with respect like yourself when you realise the similarities shared." The Professor then reached into another box to bring out a small bottle. To those familiar with cooking it looked like a regular seasoning. "Now everyone take one bottle, pour a small amount into the jar carefully before passing the box to the next person to take." Just what was this meant to do? As Javy demonstrated, small speckles of red rained down on the pixies. Now the two pixies were.. dancing? But why?
"While Fairies are mainly used as decoration, testing, and bait for creatures. Some choose to hold them as pets. For the rest of the week you'll be their caretakers.. Perhaps you might even spot eggs in the jar." So with that, it now meant. "Class is dismissed, the homework will be posted momentarily.. If you didn't happen to catch at least one fairy, you may head back to catch one quickly if no one else is willing to part with one of their fairies.." Which shouldn't be a problem, considering some were housing more than two. Heh.
--- OOC: Thanks for coming and participating, I'll leave the thread open for the rest of the day for those wanting to capture a fairy to help complete the homework assignment. =)
