"You are early"
The voice felt like a velvet cushion within him. It came from inside his consciousness, echoing as a billion voices all speaking at once.
"I am Harry." It was a thought; he had no lips.
"You…are the boy who lived."
Echoes. He knew some voices, recognised them. He felt dizzy. 'But how could one feel dizzy, when one had no body?' came Hermione's voice from inside him.
"Are you Yana?" he asked, the thought echoing around his being.
"We are." responded the muddle of echoes.
"Where is this?"
"Beyond the stars. Beyond existence. Beyond being."
"Is this heaven?"
"This is consciousness. This is your peace." Harry thought he understood.
"Your friends are here." The collective spoke again and some individual slurred echoes could be heard apart from Yana's collective.
"Harry."
"We are here."
"It is safe."
"They miss you, Harry Potter." The collective consciousness informed him and Harry wanted to be with them. Wanted to be part of this magnificent being, this incredible collection of souls all living as one.
"Your Eternity can wait, Harry Potter." Yana spoke again, and the familiar individual echoes died back. They were his Mother and Father. He could feel them, touching him, moving through him, and he wanted to be with them, to be a part of them.
"They have always been a part of you, Harry Potter. We all are a part of each other: In the end, as in the beginning. But Eternity can wait."
"Wait for what?"
"For you."
"I am here now."
"No. Another joins us in your place."
"No, I want to join with you. I want to join my family."
"Others need you. They are coming for you."
"They don't need me."
"They have prayed for your return. We will answer their prayer."
"No."
"Go, Harry. Yana knows as you do, it is not your turn." The new thought came from a depth of his soul he never knew. But it scared him.
"Professor Dumbledore?"
"My time shall come before yours, Harry. Yana knows this to be true." The collective vibrated around his consciousness as a sign of acknowledgement.
"No."
"They are coming for you, Harry Potter."
"Send them away."
"There are more battles to fight."
"No."
"Go with them, Harry."
He could feel them. They were coming.
"Sk'Natherra comes. Come my children. My chosen."
The collective seethed with energy, it was like a silent storm raging within as he felt them reaching for him, fighting their way through the boundaries of existence. His friends. They needed him. He had to leave. Had to go with them. His consciousness, his being, his very soul was swept up into an almighty whirlwind, voices hissed and echoes in his ear climbing and climbing to a horrendous crescendo.
Then silence.
Peace.
A bird singing in the distance.
Voices.
Voices he knew.
His friends.
And one final collective voice echoed through his mind.
"Eternity can wait."

Hogwarts RPG Name: Krysta Hedwig Sixth Year | Chapter 26: Loose Ends
He struggled relentlessly with the box, determined not to let it beat him. He sighed deeply and let the item sit motionless in his hands, staring down at it longingly.
"Oh for goodness sake, give it here."
Ginny took the chocolate frog from him and used her nails to rip the packet open, then handed it back to him. He grinned thankfully before ripping its head off with his teeth and chomping on it happily a grin on his face. Ron winked and Harry pretended not to notice.
"He has to learn to do it himself." scolded Hermione trying to look stern and not quite pulling it off.
"Shut up and pass me the pumpkin juice." Harry ordered, the grin not leaving his face. Hermione did her best "I give up" expression and not only passed him the jug, but poured some into a glass for him.
"Thank you." he said and at last she gave in and returned the grin.
The strange elated sensation he'd been experiencing was nothing compared to the permanent knot in his stomach however. He had been making a point of not looking at the bed Professor Dumbledore had been occupying just days before. The school was in shock and Professor McGonagall had been wearing the same bewildered expression permanently for nearly a week.
The others hadn't really talked about it. He knew how awkward they must feel and probably thought Harry was blaming himself for it all. But he was ok, which was what really bothered him. He knew Dumbledore was gone and Harry was ok. He hadn't really mourned, not really. It just wasn't how he felt. He hadn't yet left the infirmary. Madam Pomfrey had insisted on that -'Eight days ago you were dead! If you think you're going back to classes you can think again' had been her reasoning.
Not that there had really been any classes according to his friends. Not all students had even returned to Hogwarts and The Ministry was having a field-day. They had eventually declared the place free of vampires after Tuesday, although Harry could have told them that. And although they had appointed Professor McGonagall acting Headmistress there had been definite 'mmm'ing and 'ahh'ing about whether she would take the role permanently.
The school was under investigation and Fudge, who of course was still in denial over Voldemort had declared that the entire school and its staff had 'clearly had their minds meddled with' since nearly every person he spoke to - teachers included - had told him otherwise. The mention of Hugo Dracus however had turned him the colour of fallen snow, as Hermione described it glumly and he had quickly left the room, probably to be sick.
The hardest thing for them to tell him was that as Harry had feared, half the school had identified Sirius and informed the Minister of not only his presence in the Chamber but also that he been working with the staff. Fudge of course, instead of questioning Sirius' guilt, had instead questioned the integrity of the staff and hence, they too were under investigation, including Professor McGonagall.
Sirius himself had headed for the hills as soon as he was sure Harry was ok, or rather as soon as Hermione could convince him that Harry was ok. Krysta seemed to have vanished off the face of the planet. Harry had convinced his sceptical friends (with much support from Hermione and, strangely enough, Ginny.) that Krysta was not the traitor Sirius had made her out to be and that it had been her that had brought him back from what he was now calling 'the collective'.
Ron hadn't taken much convincing and he went on to describe the strange telepathic conversation he had had with her and after that even Fred and George had seemed confident.
The twins had then gone into great animated detail describing the strange events in the Ravenclaw common room and after that conversation Harry's jaw seemed to be permanently stuck to his chest as he stared at Ginny in shock and curiosity. Hermione made thoughtful 'hmmm'ing noises and Ginny shrugged and claimed to remember very little about what happened.
"It's like I was there but not there." she said hazily
The real excitement and what Harry had been highly sore about missing was the arrest of Peter Pettigrew. The event had been pitiful according to Heather who smugly told the story. She'd recognised him immediately skulking around the greenhouses, she claimed and with a little help from the twins (not to mention some rather dodgy weasley-esque jinxes) they'd manage to chain him up in the common room where she'd kept a very close eye on him until the Ministry eventually arrived.
"The look on Fudge's face was a picture!" cried Ron with delight bouncing up and down on his seat.
"Gutted." agreed Ginny grinning broadly.
"Oh you should have heard Professor McGonagall, Harry!" piped up Hermione excitedly and he could see the admiration in her eyes.
"Well, well Minister. Peter Pettigrew alive and well, who would believe it?" Hermione said in a highly amusing Scottish accent and sounding so like McGonagall it was kind of creepy. Ginny was killing herself laughing.
"He just stood there going 'um, um, well yes, I see, er.'" she giggled through her tears. Harry handed her a tissue, full of guilt at having missed all of this. Ginny dabbed at her eyes but continued to giggle.
"Yeah. And McGonagall's all: 'Well Minister, this is quite a shock.' and he's all 'Whatever do you mean, Minerva?' and she's all 'Well if Pettigrew is alive, well then doesn't that make Black innocent of murder?'". Laughed Heather wildly clutching her sides, which were clearly aching. Fred and George were howling with laughter by now but Harry had stopped laughing and stared at Heather.
"What did he say?" he asked her. Could this mean what he thought it meant? The American gasped for breath before answering.
"Nothing!" she cried and Harry's mouth fell open in horror. Surely Fudge wasn't going to ignore this too.
"He couldn't speak. He didn't know what to say. He knew she was right and couldn't bring himself to say it." laughed Fred and George clapped him on the back. Harry didn't laugh. Harry didn't feel very well at all. He knew Fudge well enough to know that this wasn't a good sign.
The place was chaos. Half of the parents were now refusing to send their children back to Hogwarts and those students remaining were reluctant to go to lessons. Hermione had never been in such a panic. This was of course, their 5th year and the 'disruption' as the teachers were now referring to it, had undoubtedly affected their OWLs. Harry hadn't even thought about them but she was completely freaking out over it all.
The way Ron told it, and Harry had to agree, was that if they wanted to cancel the OWLs and make them do an extra year of school then so be it. Hermione had cried out in terror at the prospect of being sent down a year and had retreated to the girl's dormitory crying, leaving the boys alone in the practically deserted common room shaking their heads.
"I understand her reaction though." said Ron and Harry looked at him in surprise. This was usually the point at which Ron would rant and rave about how silly she was being. Ron caught his questioning glance and looked suddenly uncomfortable. "Well er, you know, it's really important to her all this academic stuff isn't it? She's been working really hard and she's already missed a whole month's essays and classes due to...what?" he asked when noticed the gob smacked expression on Harry's face. Harry raised his left eyebrow and grinned.
"Nothing it's just...you sounded just like her then." he said and Ron made a rude gesture in return.
"I really can't see them holding the exams now. Maybe if lessons had started immediately but it's Christmas in two weeks and with half the students still home and Dumbledore gone..."
he stopped dead his mouth still open. A ten tonne brick had just hit him. Hearing the words in his own voice like that, saying them out loud...suddenly made it all so real. Ron didn't say anything but instead looked at the fire. Harry felt sick.
He was gone and Harry was beginning to get a horrible image of the world without Albus Dumbledore. In his head it was like nothing worked properly. Nothing was ever going to be the same. So much would change, was already changing and there was nothing anyone could do about it. What would become of so many people? Harry gulped. Dumbledore was such a huge influence and such a powerful character that with him now gone, things would fall apart and inside him, Harry could already feel it beginning to happen. Who knew what would become of the school with him? Dumbledore was what held the place together.
"At least McGonagall's taking over." said Ron, as though reading his mind. "She'll do things the way Dumbledore would, won't she? She really respected him and stuff." Ron said, trying not to sound as upset as he really was. Harry just nodded. He was right to a point. Professor McGonagall would try to continue the way Dumbledore had led.
"What about the spells?" asked Ron and Harry looked up. "The protective spells around the castle. Dumbledore was controlling those. Do you think they're still...you know...there now that he isn't." Harry thought about it. He wasn't sure how it worked.
"I'm sure the Ministry will take care of that kind of thing." Harry said and Ron shrugged and nodded.
"Guess so. Fudge may be a waste of space but he doesn't want us all dead...at least I don't think he does." Ron added as an after thought.
"McGonagall's got that under control." announced an American accented voice as Heather dropped onto the sofa looking thoughtful and a little stressed. "First thing she did when...you know..." Harry nodded and joined Ron's fire gazing. He'd said out loud once and didn't feel like doing it again.
"I feel like everything has happened whilst I was dead." Harry said, almost disappointedly.
Missing the arrest of Wormtail left him feeling fidgety and apprehensive. To him it felt like all the end had been tied off in a heart beat, when really he knew that things had taken time and were a lot more complicated than his friends made them sound.
For the first time Harry knew what it felt like to be on the outside of the story and he didn't like it too much. He'd missed all the detail, feelings and particulars of the events that had occurred over the last few days. He had always felt he was at the centre and caught up in everything so that now he was seeing things from the point of view of the students of Hogwarts it was very strange to him.
He remember wishing over and over again that he could lead a normal simple life just like the other kids in the school, and now that he wasn't in the centre of it all, he felt left out.
"You can't always be there when it all goes down." said Heather as though reading his thoughts. He smiled ruefully and shrugged.
"Well I figured I had a good excuse." he said and Ron grinned.
"Yes, I think being dead is a very good excuse...think that'll work if you're late for potions class?" she asked and both boys laughed half-heartedly. The very concept of going to a Potions class didn't seem overly amusing just now.
"Well I'm just glad I didn't have to explain about Amy."
Harry looked up at Heather's odd comment. Ron didn't seem to have heard her.
"What did you say? I don't think I quite heard you." he asked but frowned when he saw the look on her face.
"Huh?" she asked looked completely flummoxed.
"I didn't hear what you said." he repeated.
"What, about potions class?" she asked and he frowned again.
"No after that. Something about...you didn't have to explain about Amy." he said and her eyes grew wide in what appeared to be horror.
"I didn't say anything." she said quickly and a little shortly.
"Yes you did, didn't she, Ron?" Ron shrugged.
"I didn't hear anything." he answered and stared at Harry as though he'd begun to grow antlers.
"I heard you!" he cried, raising his voice.
"Harry, I didn't say anything!" Heather yelled back, getting to her feet. She looked incredibly uncomfortable all of a sudden. "I have to go anyway, bye." she said quickly and before Harry could argue, she'd already climbed through the portrait door.
Both boys watched her go then Ron turned to Harry with a perplexed look on his face.
"Who's Amy?"
Two days later Harry and Ron had returned to The Burrow along with Ginny, Fred and George after they'd received an hysterical letter from Mrs. Weasley insisting on their return and that
"If you dare leave Harry behind you can all eat sandwiches on Christmas Day!" After which the twins had practically done Harry's packing for him and carried him out of the castle to the carriages that took them all down to the station.
Ginny seemed in good spirits for which Harry was certainly grateful. He hadn't really had chance to talk to her without at least one of her brothers around since…well since Harry had been dead, but at least she was talking to him. The uncomfortable tension seemed to have dissolved between them.
Christmas had been nice and normal...or whatever could pass as normal. That of course meant hilarity ensued wherever the twins had set foot but everyone, even Mrs. Weasley seemed grateful for that. Harry hadn't failed to notice how everyone was trying their hardest not to mention Professor Dumbledore and many sentences were left hanging in the air unfinished as a result.
No one had asked Harry what had happened for which he was incredibly grateful. The only person who came close to asking was Ginny.
It was two nights before New Year and everyone was outside playing "Qudditch by firelight" as George had called it, and although that may sound nice and romantic, it was far from it. In Harry's opinion, Bludgers were bad enough without setting them on fire.
He'd taken a timeout after having one of his eyebrows and one ear nearly singed complete off and Ginny followed him into the kitchen, retrieving a small tube of ointment which she then started gently massaging into the angry looking flesh.
"How you doing, Harry?" she asked, breaking the silence. He looked at her quizzically though he knew what she was referring to. She gave him a look that signified that she knew this also and the questioning expression turned into a rueful smile.
"I sometimes forget you're just as sharp as your brothers." He said, teasing her. She smiled and returned her attention to his ear, rubbing the skin gently. He noticed she was lingering her touch there, the tips of her other fingers brushing his neck every now and then.
"Even more so if you ask me. Us Weasley women have to be quick off the mark." She told him then they both laughed out loud at the sound of:
"I saw that George Weasley!" from Mrs. Weasley outside
"See." Ginny said, nodding towards her family outside. Harry smiled and looked down at his hands, studying them. He closed his eyes and sighed.
"Oh sorry, does that hurt?" she asked, taking her hand away. He looked up and grabbed her hand in response.
"No, no, it's nice." He said quickly. "I'm ok." He added, in attempt to answer her question. She looked at him as though studying him to see if the look in his eyes matched the words that he spoke. She seemed satisfied.
"Is it weird?" she asked. He studied her now, although she was looking down at the table. The fire outside was reflecting in her fiery hair.
"Sometimes." He answered.
"I felt weird. Afterwards." She said and he looked at her a little confused. Then everything the twins had told him about what happened that night came back to him.
"You helped bring me back." He whispered quietly and she looked up.
Their eyes locked for a moment; a moment in which sapphires sparkled in the reflection of emeralds. Then in an instant the spell was over.
"That looks better now." Ginny said hastily and gathered up the first aid stuff on the kitchen table which she stuffed untidily into a cupboard and disappeared out of the back door into the garden before Harry could say a word.

"Ouch!" Harry cried as Ron ducked out of the way of the book that missed Ron and hit Harry full on the nose.
"Sorry!" wailed Hermione scampering across the room concern on her face. "I don't know what's wrong with me, I should be able to do this."
Harry covered his rapidly swelling nose with both his hands and watched Hermione precariously as she re-attempted to hurl the book at the target on the wall behind them. He side-stepped out of the way as it missed once more, ricocheting off a stone pillar and bounced out of the open window. Hermione watched with dismay and dropped onto a large cushion on the floor, holding her chin in her palms and sniffing.
"What's wrong? You're well off your game." Announced Ron, pointlessly and seemed only to add to her depression. She crossed her arms over her knees and hid her face behind them moaning gently to herself.
"aybe oo ebausted orelf." Suggested Harry nasally, trying to ascertain exactly how swollen his nose was using his finger and thumb.
"He said: 'Maybe you exhausted yourself.'" Explained Ron in response to Hermione's confused expression and Harry gave Ron the thumbs up in thanks. This didn't seem to help either, as Hermione wailed again and re-buried her face behind her arms.
"Hermione…" Ron's confident voice trailed off. Harry could tell he didn't really have anything to say. What could he say?
Hermione had been locking herself and anyone that would follow her in this abandoned classroom for hours on end every day since Christmas. She'd returned from home with a new vigour and determination and it seemed her refusal to accept that the exams would not take place had turned into an obsession to learn everything their teachers had tried to teach them over the last four years.
"Well…I guess you don't have to worry about transfiguration." Suggested Ron helpfully. Hermione snorted.
"Don't I?" she asked bitterly.
"Hermione I think you proved yourself by turning into a cat." Offered Harry trying to make her smile. He failed. She shook her head.
"Yeah, c'mon I bet McGonagall won't even make you take the exam, I bet…"
"I can't do it." She suddenly announced and Harry stared at her.
"Can't do it? Can't do what?" he asked as Ron perched himself on a table.
"I haven't been able to transmogrify since that time in the Chamber. It was a one off I think…I think Krys was helping me or something."
Both Harry and Ron stared at her, though not completely in surprise.
"That doesn't mean anything." Ron said gently.
"Yes it does, it means I can't do this, it means I'm not up to scratch, that I'm not good enough, that…" she stopped mid-sentence and with a great deal of discomfort Harry noticed the tears rolling down her cheeks. He couldn't handle crying, he hated it. It made him uncomfortable and he never knew what to do. Why did girls do that? Why did they insist on making him feel so useless like this? Ginny did it too, so did Cho. What was her problem anyway?
"That's rubbish! For gods sake!" Hermione looked up in shock at his sudden outburst, as did Ron. "Jeez, you did it once, and you'll do it again. You're not turning a hedgehog into a pincushion you know! You shouldn't even be able to do it anyway, the very fact that you did it at all was a miracle. So you need practice! So you need help and guidance! Are you just going to give up?"
Hermione jumped at every raised syllable. She was gasping for breath in between silent sobs staring at Harry through tear-drenched eyelids. Then almost as quickly as his temper had arisen, she got up from her cushion and flew soundlessly from the room.
Harry's expression was dark and thundery enough that the few students that passed him in the corridors got out of his way very quickly indeed, but he barely noticed they were even there. Even he didn't know what was really wrong with him and that seemed to make his mood even worse. He'd never really calmed down since his outburst in the abandoned classroom the day before, which Harry knew, was the real reason for his black mood.
He didn't understand his outburst and he knew it had been completely uncalled for, but rather than calming down and finding Hermione to apologise, it had sent him into an even angrier state.
He was angry with himself and was taking it out on everything around him, living or not, so even Nearly Headless Nick was shocked when Harry ignored his friendly greeting and rudely walked straight through the spectre's ectoplasm, which in turn left Nick in a particularly fowl mood.
"I was going to tell you something rather interesting but I won't bother now, young man!" Nick had called after him, but Harry barely heard him.
Right now he was trying to blame Hermione for causing his current state of mind, by reasoning that she had caused him to get angry with her, and her tears had ended in him feeling angry with himself and consequently everyone around him. He also convinced himself that she had no right to react to his outburst in such a way, since she should know by now that it would only make him angrier and would result in Harry having this very internal argument with himself.
In short he was angry with himself and knew he was in the wrong, but needed someone to take some small piece of responsibility, thus giving him some ends to vent his frustration and right now that vent was an imaginary argument with Hermione. That however didn't seem to help, since in his imaginary argument with Hermione, all she did was cry again which actually just sent the whole situation around in circles making Harry even angrier than he was in the first place.
So when he eventually climbed into the common room through the portrait door, he was so caught up in his own inner storm, that the sight before him took several moments to sink in.
Neither of them seemed to have noticed him standing there. Even when Hermione pulled away from Ron and turned to leave the room, neither of them even registered his presence. Even when their fingers eventually parted and Hermione had left up the stairs, Ron didn't notice his friend standing in the doorway watching his mouth open wide in horror.
"What the bloody hell…"
"Harry!" Ron cried out, his voice higher than usual. "I er, we were just." He darted his eyes over to the stairway Hermione had just ascended, then back to Harry, his hands flaying wildly in the air.
"She…had something in her eye." Ron said quickly but his tone said even he knew that that was pathetic.
"Right." Responded Harry in a strangely calm tone. "Something in her eye. Strange. To me it looked like you two were kissing."
"What? Don't be…I mean why would…that's ridiculous." Ron stammered. "I mean I don't even like her."
"You don't like her?" asked Harry, his calm tone beginning to sound more insane by the second.
"Well you know, we're always arguing aren't we? Why would I kiss her?"
"You told me you loved her, as I recall." Harry responded and Ron dropped onto a table looking desperately nervous and uncomfortable. He still hadn't looked Harry in the eye.
"Well yeah…I mean no…but she…"
"You didn't think she liked you back." Harry finished what Ron was trying to explain. The storm inside Harry was subsiding, but a new feeling was taking its place. Ron shook his head.
"How long?" Harry asked, his voice still calm. Ron shook his head.
"It was…I don't know how, I just…it happened, you know?"
"When?" Ron looked even more uncomfortable.
"You'd gone after Voldemort. She was angry with me, because I'd let you go. She was scared."
"And you comforted her, did you?" Harry's voice had now adopted venom and Ron looked up quickly shaking his head.
"It wasn't like that…really it wasn't…not really. In a way I suppose…I wasn't thinking. It just happened. I thought she was going to hit me or something, but she didn't."
"She kissed you back."
"Yeah." Ron looked bewildered and confused.
"Wow." Harry muttered. "Well, congratulations." He said, and Ron looked up frowning.
"What?"
"Well this is what you wanted right?"
"I…Harry it isn't what you think."
"It's ok, really. I hope you'll be happy together, really I do." He added quickly getting to his feet and moving swiftly to the door.
"Wait a minute!" Ron shouted after him but Harry was gone.
Ron finally found him in the foyer.
"Will you wait a damn minute, Potter!" he yelled, out of breath.
"What? I'd have thought you two would like some quality time or something. I don't want to get in the way or anything. Three's a crowd an' all." Harry hissed back at him.
"Stop being such a moron!"
"Excuse me?"
"You're being an idiot, Harry."
"Am I? Really? Well it seems to me I'd have been better off staying dead!"
"I won't argue with that!" called Draco from the other side of the foyer where he stood with a giggling Patsy Parkinson. For once both Harry and Ron ignored him.
"We're not together, Harry, that's what I'm trying to tell you."
"Not together? You looked pretty together a few minutes ago, or did her lips get stuck to yours by accident?"
By now Patsy's giggling had turned into loud laughter and Draco was cupping his ear dramatically in their direction, a broad grin on his face.
"Oh dear, Potter and Weasley have had a lover's tiff. What's the matter, Potter? Did Weasley cheat on you?" he called over again. Harry merely scowled at him before turning his attention back to Ron.
"She ended it, Harry. It's over before it even started, ok?"
"Oh what? Do I look stupid?"
"Is that a trick question?" shouted Draco and it was Ron's turn to scowl at him.
"I'm serious, Harry. She hasn't even touched me since that first time. She's barely spoken to me. She won't come anywhere near me unless someone else is in the room."
"Sounds like the girl's got her head screwed on then!" shouted Patsy.
"Will you two shut the hell up for just a second?" yelled Harry, reaching for his wand.
"Free country." Retorted Draco, a sickening grin plastered across his face. "But on my part, Potter and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, I hope you two patch this up. You two are such a lovely couple." He said with mock sincerity.
That was just about as much as either of them could stand and simultaneously their wands were raised and accompanied by a hysterical squeal from Patsy, two shots of blue magic shot out of their wands hitting Draco square in the chest.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Krysta Hedwig Sixth Year | Happy New Year everyone! Chapter 26, Part 3
Snape dropped two large cauldrons onto the floor in front of them.
"When they're done, there are five more over there. Spotless, Potter. Spotless." He snarled then swept out of the room, locking the door behind him.
Silently Ron picked up the small scrubbing brush and dipped it in the bucket of mildly soapy water. Harry didn't move just stared at the filthy cauldron in front of him. It was disgusting. What the hell had Snape been using it for anyway?
Ron scrubbed in silence, speaking only to curse at the bucket, which he nearly tipped over. Eventually Harry picked up his own practically bristle-free scrubbing brush and began work on his cauldron.
"This is useless." He muttered and Ron stopped scrubbing for a second to look at him. He looked bewildered. Harry shook his head, realising that Ron had misunderstood him.
"I meant the brush." He announced and Ron's expression relaxed.
"Yeah. I think even a house elf would complain about these." He said holding his own brush up for inspection.
"Don't let Hermione catch you saying that. She might dump you." Harry said in a low dry voice. Ron released a deep sigh and continued scrubbing.
An hour later and Harry had made very little progress. The brush and the water were completely and utterly useless which he knew had been the whole point of this exercise. Not only was Snape in charge of the punishment but also the fact that they would undoubtedly be unable to complete their detention would just give Snape another reason to discipline them.
"This is so obviously a set up." Muttered Ron, breaking the silence and voicing Harry's thoughts. Harry's first reaction was to agree wholeheartedly but he caught himself just in time to remind himself he wasn't talking to Ron. Instead he continued the pointless scrubbing. Ron however either didn't take the hint, or refused to give up.
"How d'you think Malfoy's doing?" he asked. Harry shrugged disinterestedly, though inside he was grinning. Seeing Draco not only with horns growing out of his nose, but a lovely tail growing out of the back of his head was definitely worth the detention.
Ron gave up for a while and they both worked in silence.
"It's ok."
Ron pulled his head out from inside his cauldron. He'd been trying to clean the very bottom and had somehow ended up with his head and shoulders right inside it.
"Huh?" he asked, as though not quite sure he'd heard right. Harry took a deep breath. The silence and inane scrubbing had given him time to calm down and he was starting to think more clearly again.
"It's ok. I knew you liked her. I even wanted you to sort it out, I just…it was a shock you know."
He fell silent again and he could feel Ron's gaze on the side of his head, though he refused to meet his friend's eyes. He felt embarrassed apart from anything. He'd behaved like a spoiled brat and he knew that now. He still couldn't get his head around what happened but the anger was beginning to subside.
"It's not…it really isn't what you think. I mean, we aren't together." Ron finally answered. Harry stopped scrubbing and turned to look at Ron who was still holding the brush in his hand, the water dripping all over the already drenched floor. Their trousers were soaked and their hands and clothes filthy.
"Why not?" Harry asked putting his brush back in the bucket and leaning back on his hands. Ron looked thoughtful for a moment then followed suit, dropping the brush into the water with a splash and leaning back against one of the desks, and the scrubbing was abandoned completely.
Ron looked downhearted.
"I don't know!" he suddenly cried out, waving his hands in the air with exasperation. "First it was: 'Harry's dead! How can you think about such a thing?'" he began and Harry raised an eyebrow. He had to side with Hermione on that one.
"Then it was: 'I don't want to ruin our friendship.' And 'It wouldn't be fair on Harry.'." Ron mimicked Hermione's voice rather badly but Harry got the general idea.
"But when I saw you, she was kissing you." Harry commented and Ron suddenly looked even worse than before.
"Yeah. That was her way of ending it."
"She ended it by kissing you?" Harry asked, completely confused. Ron nodded and Harry shook his head. "Women are stupid." He added and Ron sniggered.
"Yeah I mean a slap on the face or an argument I could handle. I mean that's closure or whatever, right?" Harry nodded in complete agreement.
"What did she say anyway?" he asked and Ron shrugged.
"She said that, she thought it only happened because we were scared or something. Something about people do stupid things in the heat of the moment." He said glumly. Harry frowned. He kind of knew what Hermione had been trying to tell him.
"Do you think that's what it was? Just the heat of the moment? You know, both so scared at the thought of losing yours truly…" Ron laughed out loud cutting Harry off mid sentence and both boys laughed. Ron's laughter died quickly though. He shook his head again.
"I don't know, that's the thing. Maybe she's right. I know how I feel but maybe for her…" he trailed off. He didn't need to finish.
The next few weeks were like being back in Limbo. Only there was no comforting white light or soothing voices surrounding him; only stone walls.
Nothing was happening and days went past in a blur, meaningless and empty. The teachers too seemed to be feeling it as they could often be seen roaming the halls and grounds with a vacant expression haunting their eyes. He could understand it, after all what was a school with so few students and no classes to teach? There was yet more talk of closing the school and sending everyone home but some invisible force seemed to be keeping them there.
Soon even Hermione's relentless determination to keep up her schooling wavered and she went about her days in a daze, living life on autopilot, seemingly not feeling a thing around her. For Harry that was the sign to panic.
He knew he was bored. He hadn't found the ceiling this interesting since the summer, but there were no tiny panthers or dogs on this ceiling. Just the same ancient stone riddled with cracks and chips that came with age.
Harry lifted himself into a sitting position since hanging his head over the foot of the bed like that was beginning to make his neck ache. He rubbed it subconsciously, taking his glasses off and placing them on the bed next to him.
He nearly jumped out of his skin when he felt soft, cool fingers touch the back of his neck. He whipped round defensively grabbing clumsily for his wand, his vision impaired by the absence of his glasses.
"It's me Harry!" cried out a familiar voice sounding a little panicked herself. The figure backed off a step and held her hands up defensively.
"Ginny?" he asked, relaxing slightly and letting his hand fall away from his wand. The figure sat next to him and his eyes slowly focused on her face. She was smiling with bemusement.
"Little jumpy aren't you?" she asked mockingly. He raised an eyebrow and tried to look serious.
"Well excuse me, but you know dying has that effect." He muttered. He was only teasing but hoped to wind her up all the same. He was disappointed when the smile didn't leave her face. There was obviously no fooling her.
"How are you? Your neck ok?" she asked reaching out to touch it again.
"It's just stiff…I was laying badly." He said hastily, flinching a little when she touched him. Her mouth opened as if to say something but she remained quiet. He didn't miss the hurt in her eyes though. He didn't know what was wrong with him anyway? Why should he flinch? He wanted her to touch him.
"Sorry." She said quietly and pulled her hand away.
"No it's ok." He said quickly grabbing her hand before she pulled it away completely.
For a moment they just stared at their hands interlocked as though studying a new species they had just discovered. Ginny's mouth was open slightly as though in mid sentence whilst Harry just stared at her pale skin contrasted against his. He noticed how smooth her hand was, how soft the skin was on his.
They both looked up at each other, their eyes locking. Harry saw a flash of green but then it was gone, as though it had never been there. A tingling sensation was beginning in his fingers where they touched Ginny's and the tiny gasp that escaped her lips told him she was experiencing the same thing.
His back tickled like prickly heat and a wave of warmth spread across his shoulders and through his chest. Ginny whimpered. Did she feel it too?
"What is it?" she whispered. Her cheeks were flushed and her breathing was laboured. Harry noticed that his own breathing was deeper and more urgent also. He closed his eyes as the heat spread through his body engulfing him. He felt like he was on fire.
He forced his eyes open and discovered the same was happening to her. Her eyes were shut, her mouth parted letting tiny gasps escape her lungs. He closed his eyes again, giving in to the sensations running through them both like an electric inferno. He felt like it was one sensation that they were sharing it between them, their hands acting as a conduit letting it flow through them and connecting them.
“You know, don't you, boy? The passion that flows through you when they touch you inside. I can see it imprinted on you. It burns through your flesh…”
The heat rose, becoming delightfully unbearable. He felt more than heard himself moan as the rush reached his head and he was beyond anything now. He was consumed by this fire that had taken control of them so completely now. He welcomed it, needed it, wanted more.
He didn't care for what or why it was, didn't care for anything except this furnace they shared. He didn't feel much of anything at all, he could even think. He knew only the fire. He knew only the burning. He knew only Ginny.
It was dark when he awoke. He could hear owls hooting to each other and could see the moonlight streaming through the curtains surrounding the four-poster.
Ginny still lay beside him sleeping soundly, her head against his chest. Gently he pulled his hand out of hers and the movement caused her to stir. It took her mere seconds to wake and sit up staring at him. He could just make out her face in the pale light. There was no look of shock or horror, no anger touched her eyes as he had expected. She just looked at him.
"What happened?" she whispered, her voice barely audible. He shook his head gently, never taking his eyes off hers. She sat up completely, swinging her legs over the side of the bed.
He didn't remember closing the curtains. He didn't even remember them falling asleep like this. He could only remember burning like his entire soul was alight.
Her face showed the same confusion and awe combined. They both seemed to want to say something, to ask something but words escaped them. Instead they continued to look at each other. A calm had swept over Harry and he wondered if she was experiencing it too. Her eyes told him she was.
"It's late." Her voice broke the silence softly. He looked at his watch and saw that it was indeed very late. He wondered when the other boys in the room had come in for they were all sleeping soundly in their beds. He looked at Ron and saw Ginny do the same. They both looked at each other and she saw the hint of panic flash across her eyes. She didn't need to voice her fears for he felt them too. Had he seen them sleeping there? What assumptions would he have made if he had seen them?
"I better go." She spoke again and Harry nodded. They both stood up and she looked up at him once more before turning to go.
Instinct took over and Harry quickly reached for her hand stopping her. They both gasped as a familiar electric shock passed through their skin and then diminished to nothing. They looked at each other for a brief moment before letting instinct take control once more.
Their lips met lightly but firmly and the tingles began again almost overwhelming them. The second or two that the kiss lasted felt like hours to them both. They pulled apart, neither of them daring to breath, relishing in the warmth that had already spread across their chests and filled their stomachs.
It was only after Ginny had slipped silently from the dorm room and was already halfway down the stairs that Harry could once more draw breath. He stood still staring at the door she had just exited, touching his lips with the tips of his fingers. They still tingled. A shiver went down his spine and he closed his eyes, enjoying the sensations.
Finally the feelings subsided and he opened his eyes once more.
He took the few steps back to his bed and sat down, his movements feeling like they were in slow motion. His body felt heavy and weary. He somehow managed to pull off his jumper and jeans before laying back on the bed and slipping under the sheet. He didn't need any blanket. His whole body was warm.
Without even knowing it he was asleep and for the rest of the night, he dreamt of fire.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Krysta Hedwig Sixth Year | Chapter 27: Blood
Tiny red spots danced in his blurred, semi-conscious vision. He blinked. He half expected repercussions of last night's sensations but his body felt cool and rested. He squinted, confused as to why everything was still blurred.
Kicking himself mentally, he realised his glasses of course were still on the floor where they had fallen off the bed last night.
Harry rolled over onto his side and peered over the edge of the mattress. There they were, about a foot out of arm's reach. Typical. He blinked again and wondered what the little red spots had been that he'd seen when he first awoke. He glanced around him but saw nothing that resembled the oddity.
And then they caught his eye once more; two tiny little fiery orbs dancing around in a sea of silver mist.
He picked up the Arinella and swung his legs out of bed so he was sitting upright. Even without his glasses they stood out brightly. He squinted again, then reached down and retrieved his glasses from the stone floor.
That was better.
He cocked his head to one side and studied them as they danced and chased each other happily around the sides of the glass in what appeared to Harry like a game of tag.
"Ah he finally rises, then." Harry nearly dropped the Arinella in surprise as someone sat down heavily on the end of his bed and another figure stood in the middle of the room with a huge grin on his face.
"Oh hi. What do you mean, it's not late is it?" he asked, smiling casually at Seamus and Dean. Dean sniggered and made himself more comfortable whilst Seamus shook his head with bemusement.
"No, no, just we thought you'd be asleep for hours what with all the energy you burned up last night."
"Eh?" asked Harry not following their grins at all.
"Oh ok, Harry, you play at being coy and we won't mention it ever again. Perfectly understand, mate." Said Dean with a knowing wink.
Harry looked from one to the other with complete confusion.
"What are you on about?" he asked.
"It's ok, Harry. Not a word, we promise. Just, you better hope her brothers don't find out."
"Whose brothers? Find out what? You mean Ginny? Listen…" he began before being cut off by Seamus.
"Hey, Harry like we said; not another word."
And before he could argue back another word, both boys had left the room throwing him one last wink before they disappeared.
He entered the Hall with great caution. Ron hadn't been there when he'd woken up and the idea that he might have jumped to the same conclusion that Dean and Seamus had was a little more than worrying.
He could see Hermione sitting at the Gryffindor table but Ron was nowhere to be seen. He was just turning to head outside when 'THUMP!' Harry found himself knocked backwards landing heavily on the floor, a pain spreading rapidly through his jaw. Looking up through his askew glasses Harry could just make out Ron standing above him. The look on his face confirmed Harry's fears.
"It's not what you think!" he cried before scrabbling out of the way of Ron's flying fist for the second time.
"What the hell is going on?" cried a voice from behind Ron who ignored Hermione and continued to fix Harry with a murderous glare. He relaxed his fist however and let it fall by his side. Harry managed to clamber to his feet, clutching his jaw, which was already swelling painfully. Ron was breathing harshly his eyes burning furiously into Harry.
"Stay out of it, Hermione." He murmured. Ron was putting all his energy into controlling his voice. More people were beginning to gather around them, familiar faces caught Harry's eye but he didn't take his attention off Ron. He didn't dare.
Neither of them moved. Would Ron announce his assumptions in front of all these people? Surely not.
"This is between us. Stay out of it."
"This is ridiculous, Ron!" Harry insisted, which proved to be a mistake as Ron suddenly lunged at Harry only to be pulled back in a split second by his brothers who had appeared seemingly out of nowhere.
"Stop it! Stop it! Ron what are you doing?" a new voice cried out in alarm and suddenly Ginny was standing between the two boys looking flustered and alarmed with a palm on each of their chests, pushing them apart.
Ron fell back, like the wind had been knocked out of him. He was looking at his sister with an expression Harry couldn't quite describe. It was hurt and disappointment. The power had left Ron's stance and his shoulders drooped.
"Ginny I…" he trailed off shaking his head.
"What's wrong with you? I kissed him, so what? You kissed Hermione."
"You kissed who?" cried George in shock whilst Fred's jaw just dropped in surprise. Hermione covered her face with what could only be described as embarrassment.
"That was a completely different…" began Ron
"Different how? I'm allowed to kiss someone if I want to, you know. I'm fifteen not two!"
"You slept in his bed!" he cried, clearly unaware of how loud his voice had become.
"Yes, I fell asleep! That's all! Nothing happened I swear!" she wailed in frustration. To Harry's relief Ron's face relaxed a little.
"She's telling the truth, Ron. We just kinda dropped off." He tried to back her up but Harry felt like the two youngest Weasleys could only hear each other right now.
"Ron I would never…" he tried again and this time Ron looked turned to look at him. Harry fixed him with a pleading look.
"You know I wouldn't…neither would she." he tried to finish, but it was clear he didn't need to. Ron closed his eyes and lowered his head. Harry relaxed. They'd gotten through to him.
"Hold on, Hold on! Who kissed who?" yelled Fred obviously extremely confused, not to mention so far beyond curiosity it was driving him and his twin insane.
"Let me get this straight…" began George.
"Ron kissed…Hermione???" he asked and Hermione rolled her eyes and looked away.
"And Harry kissed our baby sister?" asked Fred glaring at Harry who suddenly felt rather nervous.
"It's not what you think." Cried Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny all in one voice.
Fred and George looked at each other and grins spread across their faces.
"But let us get this clear though. Ginny you don't make a habit of going around kissing boys do you?" asked Fred in his best parental tone and Ginny shook her head vigorously.
"Of course not. That was…I mean that was my first real kiss." She said quietly and Harry felt himself blushing. It had been his too.
"Oh my god. The first boy our baby sister kissed was Harry Potter." Sniffled George wiping a fake tear from his cheek.
"Mum will be so proud."
Nobody was talking to anyone else. Ginny avoided Harry like the plague for over two weeks and neither Harry or Ron saw Hermione for more than a few minutes a day, most of which were over a table at meal times.
Harry and Ron although no longer at war had little conversation and often spent their time sitting in silence pretending to read the books Hermione had insisted they take out of the library weeks earlier.
Meanwhile the rest of the school (what was left of it) did nothing but talk, much to the disdain of Ginny who had very quickly been branded 'easy' ever since the argument in the Great Hall. Ron and the twins had been in more than one scrape each with people they'd overheard bad-mouthing their little sister and when finally the truth about what had - or hadn't happened that night had finally sunk in, the attention had been turned on Harry.
In short it seemed they couldn't win.
In some warped minds, with a little help and prodding from people such as Draco Malfoy, if indeed nothing had happened that night, then that made Harry a bit of a loser. And so new rumours questioning Harry's sexuality and or his skills with girls very quickly spread throughout the school.
Harry was used to rumours and voices hushing the moment he walked into the room, but for Ginny this was a new experience and although she was no longer having things like '****' or 'harpy' hissed at her when she passed, the rumours spreading about Harry seemed to equally upset her.
One argument in particular got so heated it ended in the two of them finally talking again, much to the amusement on onlookers.
It began when Ginny was stopped by two busy-bodying Ravenclaw 6th years, who cornered her and asked her how she was in a patronising sickly voice that made her blood boil.
"I'm fine. How are you?" she asked coldly. The girls exchanged fake, sympathetic smiles.
"It must have been so terrible for you." Sighed one, a tall dark haired girl with a strikingly beautiful face.
"Yes, rejection is so harsh on a girl." Crooned the other. She was a little shorter but with golden hair and blue eyes.
"I wasn't rejected." She said boldly and made to move away from them but they cornered her in.
"But we heard that nothing happened, that he turned you down." Said the brunette, in mock astonishment.
"Turned me down for what exactly?" she asked, fixing them each with an angry glare.
"Come, now Ginny you don't need to be coy with us." Said the blonde with a knowing wink. It was at this point that Harry happened to pass nearby and overheard. The girls hadn't seen him and so he stopped to listen to the rest of the conversation.
"I don't think it's any of your business." Ginny said abruptly and Harry beamed with pride.
The girls exchanged another sickeningly knowing glance.
"Well you see, Ginny we've had this theory that we think may make you feel better about yourself. You know so you don't feel inadequate as a woman." Said the brunette so patronizingly that Ginny had clenched her fist tightly at her hip.
"Oh really. Pray tell me, this should be interesting." She said sarcastically.
The girls beamed, ignoring the sarcasm.
"Oh and if this is the theory that Harry's gay, I've already heard it and can account first-hand that he isn't." she remarked firmly. At this both girls grinned with glee.
"So something DID happen then!" they cried out in unison.
"No…I mean it did…but not what you think." She said angrily. Her voice was getting a little louder now and Harry knew that he wasn't the only one listening in the conversation.
"It's ok, Ginny, we won't tell anyone." Said one of the girls whilst the other crossed her heart.
"I already told you, nothing happened." She said again and made to leave but the dark-haired girl grabbed her arm.
"Hey let her go!" cried Harry automatically rushing to Ginny's side and shaking the girl's arm free. He stopped when he saw the delighted looks on the girl's faces. He took a step back, not letting go of Ginny's arm. She just stared at him in surprise clearly having been unaware of his presence.
"Harry what are you…"
"Come on dear, Ron's waiting for us." He said, trying to give her a sign to play along with him. For a moment she just stared at him.
"Oh, sorry sweetheart. I didn't know how late it was." She hooked her arm through his and the girl's stared after them for a second.
"Hey Harry, wait a minute. We wanted to say something to you." Said one and Harry noticed the evil expression on the other's face; it was worthy of Patsy Parkinson.
"What's that ladies?" he asked, trying to mask his sarcasm.
"It's just…you know it's ok, it happens to lots of young men." Said the brunette and the blonde was clearly doing her best not to burst out laughing.
"Excuse me?" he asked, the anger beginning to rise in his chest.
"And what with you dying and everything…"
"Maybe it left you unable to…you know." Finished the other and Harry just stared at them, gob smacked. He was suddenly aware of the tittering and sniggering that was going on around them.
"You are so pathetic Crystal." Harry looked sideways at Ginny as she spoke to the dark haired girl who continued to sneer at them both. "Is this really the best you could come up with?" The girl stared at Ginny so coldly Harry felt a chill down his spine. This girl was clearly not used to being spoken back to like this.
"I mean, honestly, for a Ravenclaw you're not very bright are you?"
"You watch what you say, Weasley." Hissed the blonde.
"No, Damsel I don't think I will. Why should I? You've both stood there and insulted both me and my boyfriend openly and without qualm and expect me to just take it. Well I'm sorry, but I won't. And for the record, just because you two think passing yourself from boy to boy is acceptable behaviour, do not expect the same immoral behaviour from decent people such as Harry or myself. Now excuse us, my brother is waiting." With that Ginny tightened her arm around Harry's and they walked from the room, their heads held high.
Only when they were well out of hearing distance did they double up and roar with laughter until their sides ached. Finally they tumbled into the Gryffindor common room, still laughing and stopped dead at the shocked expression on Ron's face. He looked from one to the other who just grinned back at him. He cleared his throat before speaking.
"So, should I ask or not?"
"Well I'm just glad you two are talking to each other again. It was getting quite childish." Announced Hermione in her best authoritative voice. Ron and Harry exchanged the rolling of eyes and no one missed the irony.
Hermione had most definitely been avoiding them all for days but none of them thought it worth the bother of pointing this out to her. Harry smiled and caught the smile of Ginny as she looked up at him.
Once again they were all sitting around the fire in the common room late at night. Ginny's friend Rena had joined them along with a few other 4th years that could often be seen in the company of the youngest Weasley.
Fred and George had been doing their best to show off to two girls with long blonde hair who were undoubtedly twins themselves. The girls giggled and smiled at all the appropriate times and Harry could tell they'd taken a liking to the boys. What was it with everyone at the moment? It was like cupid had taken up residence in the Gryffindor Tower.
Hermione and Ron however seemed to be going absolutely nowhere, though not from want of trying from Ron. Every attempt to start a conversation with her had been cut prematurely short and it was clear that Hermione indeed did not have those feelings for him, or that she was in some state of denial. Personally Harry fancied the latter though after knock-back after knock-back he could see Ron's spirit dwindling.
"They're a bit young for them aren't they?" murmured Hermione disapprovingly, eyeing the blatant flirting between the two sets of twins. Harry tried not to roll his eyes again and just looked the other way.
"They're ok." Said Ginny calmly though Harry could tell she was a little offended by the comment. She was after all very close to her brothers.
"Yeah I guess. Sorry Ginny. Didn't mean anything by it." Hermione responded and Harry looked at her in surprise. It was a most un-Hermione-like comment and extremely insightful. Ginny shrugged and smiled back warmly.
"I know you didn't." she said and Harry looked form to the other. Some kind of inaudible communication seemed to be occurring between the girls and he felt quite left out.
"God, I am so bored!" wailed Rena flinging a book aside with frustration. Everyone looked around at her alarmed by the sudden outburst by the usually quiet girl.
"What's up?" asked Ginny pulling away from Harry's side a little to lean closer to her friend.
"This place! It's driving me crazy! And I thought it was bad WITH lessons." She moaned. There were nods of agreement all 'round, all except Fred and George.
"Oh I dunno. We see less of Snape these days." Suggested Fred, receiving grins from everyone including Rena.
"I guess…but even he's been weird recently. Has everyone noticed? He's gone from being a complete git to being completely normal and now he's turned into a hermit. What's with that guy?" she asked.
"A hermit? How do you mean?" asked Harry. He hadn't really been paying any attention to the teachers recently.
"Oh Snape's been locking himself away in his dungeon for hours on end not to be disturbed. We needed help with…er…a project and he told us to go away. He’s always been so helpful before but I think that's because Krys…" began Ginny and stopped dead when she received a sharp dig in the ribs from Hermione.
"Ow!" she said grumpily.
"Ok, what are you two up to?" asked Ron and Harry couldn't help wondering the same thing.
"Yes, what about Krys?" he added to Ron's question.
"Nothing it's…" began Ginny.
"Girl's stuff." Butted in Hermione and grabbed Ginny by the arm.
"Come on Ginny, we have to go." She said quickly and before Harry could stop either of them they'd vanished up the girl's stairway.
Rena stared after them looking exasperated.
"What is up with her? She's been acting really oddly lately." She said as the sound of feet disappeared above them.
"It's ok, it's Harry's fault." Said George. "Well it is!" he cried when Harry threw him a nasty look.
"Yeah, Harry. Girls go weird when they get a boyfriend don't they?" added Fred.
"How would you two know?" asked Ron cruelly and his brothers looked awkwardly at the blonde twins sitting with them and then annoyingly at Ron.
"Well what about you? One kiss and Hermione runs the other way!" retorted George and Ron pursed his lips angrily and looked the other way.
"You kissed Hermione?" asked small voice and they all turned to look at a small blonde-haired girl they hadn't noticed before.
She was one of Ginny's friends but not one Harry had really spoken to before. He wasn't even sure what her name was.
"Er, yeah but…she's not interested." Ron said uncomfortably looking at the girl with the same curiosity Harry was.
"Oh." Said the girl thoughtfully. "Maybe…maybe there's someone better out there." She said and Harry wasn't sure whether she meant someone better for Hermione, or someone better for Ron. He decided not to ask anyway, since the girl seemed to have said all she was planning to and drew her knees up under her chin.
She really was quite small, though her legs were long and her face unusually pretty. There was just something about her that made you stare at her. Her cheeks and forehead were very lightly freckled and her lips naturally dark pink. But it was her eyes. They sparkled with something Harry couldn't describe even to himself, but there was something about them. Ron watched her for a few more seconds before returning his attention to the fire he'd been pretending to study.
The mood over the next few days was dark and moody, very much like the weather. The force that seemed to be holding them all at Hogwarts was like an electric barrier of static that sparked angrily between them.
The atmosphere whilst humid and tense carried a pregnant anticipation for something they all seemed to know was coming.
Harry felt suffocated and isolated and soon found he was drawing into himself, despite Ginny's attempts to keep up morale. Soon even she began to give in to the blanket of depression that had swept through what was left of the school.
Their entire existence seemed pointless and futile, especially the staff. Harry was beginning to realise the affect the loss of Professor Dumbledore was going to have. But even Harry had no conception of the full effects of his death. Had he the foresight he might have left the school weeks ago. If he could see forward far enough and deep enough into the events to come, could he have tried to prevent them? And maybe it was for the best, for this had been coming for a long time now and events had long been in motion; events that would change the world they knew forever.
Something in Harry knew this was the calm before the storm. He could feel it coming; he sensed it as though it were a part of him. That's how it felt inside, like a thunderstorm was waiting to be released boiling in his veins as though it were in his blood.
Fred, George and Ron had found a new release for their frustrations and since Mrs. Weasley insisted they stay at school they now spent most of their time on the Quidditch pitch. Ginny soon began joining them and finally after boredom and frustration became too much for him Harry indulged in the distraction too. It wasn't long before Angelina joined them and even some of the Hufflepuff team that had also chosen to stay on at school.
Harry soon found himself completely absorbed in practise and as Angelina pointed out it was ironic, since they had all become so good that she wagered the Hufflepuffs would undoubtedly have beaten Slytherin if they were to play another match this year. That option of course was none existent.
Harry was finding himself in unusually good company. He'd noticed that the students that had remained at Hogwarts all had something distinctly in common; their loyalty to Albus Dumbledore.
Soon Harry was beginning to recognise the force that held them all their for what it was. It was Dumbledore himself. It was like a part of him had remained at Hogwarts; it lived in the walls themselves like a living, breathing essence and now he understood why he felt so safe here.
He'd come to learn that it was Dumbledore's magic that had always kept him safe all his life. Dumbledore had protected him in one form or another and Harry had felt just a little apprehensive since the headmaster's death. What would become of him now? Who would protect him? Who would mentor him? Who would he go to?
But Harry knew that he wasn't really gone and it had left him with a warm feeling in the pit of his stomach and a reassurance that relaxed his mind; despite the anxious anticipations he was still feeling.
As it happened the tension that had been brewing in the air came to an unexpected head one night in mid April. The air had become thick and heavy, the heat and humidity almost unbearable, dying to break. And it did…
The level of restlessness among the students of Hogwarts had reached its peak. The sudden rise in temperature and humidity had everyone on edge, uncomfortable and fidgety. Even the animals seemed to be feeling it. Crookshanks had been testy for days unable to settle anywhere and uninterested in any human contact. The owls were restless and snippy, many unable to roost even during the daytime.
The Giant Squid could be seen more often than usual and seemed crankier than normal. Students avoided the lake just in case; all except Hermione.
She seemed most restless of all. She couldn't stay still and could often be found pacing the common room ringing her fingers distractedly. Other times she was locked in a classroom apparently practising spells relentlessly with a rejuvenated determination.
Tonight the intensity had reached breaking point. People tossed and turned in their beds, many not bothering with their bedclothes at all, just lying above them in as few clothes as possible.
Somehow Ron had fallen asleep though Harry didn't know how. But even in his sleep he was restless often moaning out in alarm, his words indecipherable though to Harry he seemed to be calling out a warning.
Harry just lay in his underwear, his pyjamas discarded several hours earlier in a desperate attempt to achieve some level of coolness. He gazed endlessly into the Arinella: even that seemed restless, the tiny spheres within darting erratically around inside. He noticed the blood red sphere was more active than normal, thrashing itself against the sides of the crystal with extra vigour tonight. It seemed to have taken on a new, desperate energy, a new determination to break free from its confines.
Harry felt like screaming, like throwing himself against a wall, to crack open his head and release the pressure that had been building up inside him. He rolled around in frustration on his bed. He felt like he was drowning, suffocating. He wanted to claw at his skin, rip it open and let the heat escape from his flesh and his blood. His blood: that was it. It was boiling and burning through him, scorching him from the inside out, driving him insane. He flung his arm around him, above his head in exasperation his eyes closed, his breathing harsh and short. Harry imagined this was what fever felt like, trapped inside himself like his skin was a cocoon.
In the bed next to him Ron turned over violently in his sleep and murmured loudly. Harry turned to look at him and frowned to find that Ron's eyes were wide open staring at him.
"You awake?" he asked. He got no response, Ron just stared at him a look of bewilderment about him. Harry lifted himself to sitting position and spoke again.
"Mate, you awake?" Ron just stared back apparently in some state of semi-conscious sleep-walking state. Suddenly he blinked and sat up, looking around him. His eyes focused back on Harry once more and there seemed to be some spark of recognition.
"Harry?" he asked weakly, his voice croaky and broken. Harry nodded, still frowning. Ron's mouth fell open in sudden horror as though he'd just remembered a million word essay he had to write for Professor Snape that was due in five minutes.
"What's wrong?" asked Harry watching his friend with concern. Ron looked around the room a few more times as though ensuring he was indeed back in the dormitory and not still stuck in whatever nightmare dimension he had obviously been trapped in. He opened his mouth to speak, but to start with nothing came out. It was like he couldn't bring himself to say it, or he wasn't sure if what he was going to say was right or not.
"Ron…" Harry prompted and Ron looked directly at him.
"Harry…" he began shaking his head in fear and disbelief. "…He's come back."
