It was the last day of school, and everyone was loading up their bags onto the Hogwarts Express. I had already placed my bags in the prefect compartment. Now, I was searching for Draco. I needed to give him a note, which read: Draco,
We need to talk to clear things up a little. Once the train arrives at King’s Cross, we can discuss further matters. Please do this. For me. Before summer holidays start and we don’t see each other until next September.
Hermione
Students walked around me, lugging suitcases and owl cages with them. I scooted past, craning my neck upwards. At last, I spotted his fair head. It was slightly taller than all the others.
He brushed past me and stepped into the prefect compartment with his bags. As he came out, I pushed the note into his hands and gave him a meaningful look. He looked at my face and slowly opened the piece of scrap parchment. I watched as his eyes scanned the paper. He gave me a brief nod, stuck the note into his robe pocket, and disappeared into the crowd. Draco
I wasn’t sure how I felt when she gave me that note. By now, my feelings were way too messed up and I had given up on controlling them. What had Hermione done to me? Had she done the impossible, softened me up and made me vulnerable to my own emotions?
My brow furrowed and I scowled at a first year that was staring at me with wide eyes as I pondered. She scurried away with her bags. I smiled to myself. At least I hadn’t given up my way to make people feel inferior.
Soon the narrow train hallways were dissipating; students were entering their compartments. The trip back was about to begin. Crabbe and Goyle spotted Potter (man, how I hated that kid) and it was my bright idea to try a hex on him. Unfortunately, we didn’t get too far, as many of his friends came swooping down upon us, hexing us into oblivion. They then hoisted us up on luggage racks, laughing.
Scowling at them, I less loose a few swear words and waited for someone to rescue us. I couldn’t get down by my lonesome (I didn’t count the two oafs beside me; they were good for nothing anyways).
Finally, to my delight, Professor Snape passed by the window of the cubicle in which we were stuck. Giving us an odd look, he hurried into the train and undid the hexes on us. Thankful that I was looking normal once more in my beautiful self, I headed off to find a compartment.
