Bright and early on a windy Thursday morning is the first Arithmancy lesson of the term, and subsequently the first with Professor Ayana Sissay. She's just as excited as all the students obviously are, possibly even more considering how most teenagers and preteens feel about early mornings. But no matter! This is the best time for Arithmancy class. She'd checked the numbers.
The classroom is set up in quite the traditional Hogwarts fashion, with rows of tables and chairs facing the blackboard. On the desk at the front of the class is an assortment of seemingly random objects which will assist Professor Sissay with her lesson today; tiny animated elephants in a tiny enclosure, several leather coin bags, potted flutterby bushes, some broken clocks and finally, plastic muggle joysticks.
The Professor herself is gently leaning against the side of her desk with her arms by her sides, waiting with a smile for her new students to come in and take their seats. Behind her, the blackboard has already been filled with the notes they'll be needing for the lesson, but all that has all been hidden for now. No need to cause panic with new concepts just yet, which is why it currently only sports the following words in soft, curly handwriting:
Quote:
Good morning and welcome to Arithmancy!
_____________
OOC: Helloooooooo everyone and welcome to Arithmancy! We're BACK. As always, don't forget to read over the rules here before you post. Please remember that this is indeed your characters' first lesson with Professor Sissay but it is certainly possible that this is not the first time your character has interacted with her (and seen her, definitely) since it's been two whole days since the year began on a Tuesday! Trust me, I checked!
You'll have around 24 hours to post your characters arriving, and then we'll dive right into the fun with the numbers because numbers are fun. Are you excited? I'm excited. Much excitement is happening in this head of mine. Always remember that you can pretend your character has been with us this entire time, or not and deal with the IC consequences. Happy RPing!
They were a couple of days into the term, but Kaiser was still struggling to re-adjust to being back at school. He was exhausted, and that was something that just didn't seem to want to go away, and having class after class certainly didn't help. But still, he was here, so there was that.
Stifling a yawn as he entered the Arithmancy classroom, Kaiser gave the room a cursory glance, but found it to be remarkably ordinary. Good, that was good. Still, he wasn't discounting any strangeness later on in the lesson, and he was, as always, on his guard. "Morning," Kaiser said to the professor as he took his seat and waited quietly for class to start.

Having the ability to pick new classes was great. Having the option to only pick 2 or 3 before completely over burdening yourself, was not. Holly Tamesis wanted to learn things. All the things. About everything. But she also didn’t want a constant headache for the next five years, so she had limited herself to Arithmancy, Runes and Creatures. What? She couldn’t say no to the cute creatures that had the ability to maul people. They were too interesting!
So, here she was. School bag over her shoulder, uniform properly in place (it hadn’t been long enough for it to not fit her yet, thankfully there had been no more growth spurts). With a small smile and her hair curly and free around her face, the third year walked into the classroom. ”Morning, Professor." She wiggled her fingers a bit, before picking a random seat right in the middle of the classroom and then took her books and supplies out to get ready for the class.

Patrick needed to be early. It was the one batty trait he had acquired from his mama. He wanted to make good impressions with the new professors even though they had met him already... being a prefect and all. He just wanted the term to go well. He supposed it was something easy to do if he this lesson better than he had last term.
Walking in slowly, a clunk with every other step he got into the classroom. “Morning professor.” he greeted calmly and not out of breath. One thing this boot had done was prevent him from sounding like he was running a marathon before every class cause he was usually bum rushing from the great hall. He took a seat taking note of his housemates who were present and those not yet there.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
Daisy entered the Arithmancy classroom and greeted the new professor with a smile and a "Good morning, Professor," as she quickly glanced at the assortment of objects on the desk located at the front of the classroom. Daisy then preceded to sit down on a seat in the middle and began to get her supplies out from her bag, before placing them on the desk in front of her.
Bright and Early were not words in one Eloise Fairfield's vocabulary. It didn't really even help that this was her fourth year. It just didn't help. Well, sleep would help but that's an entirely different subject. Onwards to Arithmancy and walking through the door and seeing Professor Sissay and her weird desk. Not as weird as a boot but close.
"Hey Professor Sissay looks like a lot of junk on your desk. But i like the elephants"
She said smiling and as casually as possible. Yeah, she didn't say her name correctly but give it a couple more classes. Hopefully...depending on her mood and who she was talking to and if she liked her.
She was going to find a seat now

With the first few days of Hogwarts truly flying by, Ewan had arrived bright and early for his first Arithmancy lesson of the year with the faintest of smiles on his face. upon entering, his eyes were instantly drawn to the various array of objects that sat at the front of the classroom. "Good morning Professor. What's with all of the objects?" he inquired in an inquisitive tone, his eyes moving from one object to anther trying to decipher the connection.
After a few seconds had passed, Ewan quietly moved along the rows to find a seat that was empty and sat down before finally taking out his parchment and quill, ready to start the lesson.

Returning to Hogwarts for a new term was an amazing feeling. Jade spent the past two days going to the classes she liked, having good food and just being happy about finally being back at school. She was able to wake up early in the morning to get ready for Arithmancy - another class that she had decided to take this year to challenge herself.
"Good morning, Professor Sissay," the Ravenclaw greeted, pronouncing the woman's surname accurately (yes she did her research!!). She looked around the room and took note of the random objects on the desk at the front of the room. She had done some background reading on the subject before class, but failed to understand the purpose of these objects. Wondering about what they would be learning this lesson, Jade took a seat and waited for class to begin.
They we're now a few day's into term and Eleanor was slowly finding a Hogwarts routine for herself. She was a morning person so going up bright and early for a class was not a problem. A small yawn did though slip out of the brunette lioness's mouth upon entering the Arithmancy classroom since, she was also a teen that needed her sleep.
After surveying the step up and the weird collection of objects on the professors desk for a moment she turned her attention to the professor, which Ellie greeted with a sunny smile in passing on her way to an empty desk. "Good morning Professor Sissay, why do you have such an odd combo of items on your desk? The elephants are cute though."
Choosing an empty seat in the same row as Holly she quickly took out parchments, quill, inks and her Arithmancy textbooks from her backpack and placed them on the desk in front of her. She was now ready and eager to start her first arithmancy lesson.

All of these new Professors made Odaline uncomfortable with the fact that they now needed to learn that she didn't do well at conversing or discussing or talking.
As she walked into the Arithmancy classroom, she bit the inside of her cheek as she looked at the Professor before hurrying to sit down without a word and unpacking her supplies. Her important supplies.
Eniola came into the class, more like stumbled through the doors, but that is neither here nor there. Finding a seat near the front, her attention span truly is too terrible to sit any further back, and setting her textbook out she waited. That is until she got bored. Looking around the classroom she saw many familiar faces.
If Eniola was being truthful she was quite nervous. She wants to do well in all her classes, but you can never be too sure with a new professor how they'll be. She really hopes she likes this one.

Arithmancy. One of the few lessons that could give her a headache just by mentioning it. And yet here she was making her way into the classroom right one time, her bag slung over her shoulder.
"Good morning, Professor Sissay," Rylee greeted cheerfully as she made her way towards the front to find herself an empty seat. Blue-gray eyes spotting the variety of items that were laid upon the women's desk. The little elephants causing most of her curiosity and making her question what it was they would be working on so early in the morning. Did any of the stuff even have anything in common?
Still silently pondering the possible connection between the items on the professors desk and Arithmancy, the Gryffindor choose an empty seat. Pulling what she would need for the lesson from the bag she laid everything out on her desk, her bag sliding from her shoulder and onto the floor beside her chair.
For now she was ready to get started. Hopefully.

Józef didn't like mornings, especially when they were filled with new subjects and new teachers. He didn't like mornings when they had Quidditch, and he LOVED Quidditch.
With a nod to the Professor, he shuffled into a seat at the back of the classroom, but not before noting the elephants moving inside their little pen. They manager to bring a little smile to his face, and he couldn't help but wonder if he could, you know.... keep one. After the lesson, of course.

Indigo was present. Physically, at least. He was still feeling a bit distant, and weird. He had been back at Hogwarts for a few days now and he had still barely spoken to anyone besides a select few. He wasn't sure exactly what would shake this weirdness but he supposed going about his normal business was a start. That included going to class, even if he was sure he wasn't going to do so great on the participation front.
This class also made him a bit anxious because the professor was new and he didn't know anything about her. But from what he had heard she seemed pretty nice so he wasn't too concerned, but he was still cautious. "Good morning," he said quietly as he walked in. He glanced around, then took a seat by himself.

Being on time to lessons wasn’t going to be a problem, or at least Stasya was telling herself that. Considering there weren’t SORE exercises that absolutely needed to be completed before they could get to actual lessons, nor were there mutants to look out for. Just the usual castle things, the moving staircases and talking portraits, and while she generally did greet the latter when they spoke to her, escaping without getting pulled into a long conversation had become habit. Therefore, it wasn’t difficult to arrive at the Arithmancy classroom well before the scheduled time, and she’d smiled at the professor once she’d walked in the door.
“Good morning Professor Sissay,” she said, eyes on the tiny elephants as she chose a desk and settled in. Parchment and ink out for notes, focus still at least partially on the miniature creatures.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
After his usual very early morning run, which he had been doing (almost) everyday ever since the s.o.r.e had been introduced, Dorian was wide awake and as fit as a fiddle as he entered the Arithmancy classroom. "Good morning, Professor" he greeted before his eyes moved towards the objects on the desk. Wondering what those were about but also knowing he would find that out later, he looked back up, gave her a small smile before he turned to sit at the free desk nearest him.
Meeeeh mornings were not Austin's favorite time of day. He preferred the nighttime. He walked into the classroom though, trying his best to tame his messy bedhead. He gave the professor a friendly wave and then found a seat. He took out his notebook and pencil and put it on his knee.

Like Ancient Runes, Arithmancy was a class that Nina Castillo thoroughly enjoyed. Also like Ancient Runes, however, Arithmancy was also a class that she pretended to loathe. Merlin forbid anyone actually find out that she was good at it, it would be an absolute travesty. She'd have to tell Hudson that she didn't need his private lessons anymore and though she didn't need them to begin with, she very much enjoyed the time they spent together. So as far as anyone else was concerned, Nina and Arithmancy were NOT big fans of each other.
As she made her way into the classroom, she sported her classic pout. She politely paused in front of their Professor's desk to nod in greeting, taking note of the strange collection of objects placed on the desk before her. How peculiar. Immediately, her mind began forming an obscene amount of guesses as to what their lesson would be focused on today. The possibilities were seemingly endless and perhaps only time would tell.
Furthermore, she had bigger issues worth her preoccupation. Aka finding the right place to sit. If she took a seat towards the front, she would appear to be too eager. People would think her to be studious and concerned with her marks. If she took a seat at the back, she would be stuck with the burnouts. Kids who were bound to flunk their way out of school and amount to absolute nothings like drivers for the Knightbus, or worse... busboys at the Leaky Cauldron. While she wanted to appear casual, she did not want to be surrounded by idiots.
And so, she settled for a seat somewhere in the middle. Perfect.

Austin glanced up as another student had walked in. It was that girl that gave him the stink eye on the train. Yeah, he noticed. He took it she didn't like being seen with a first year sense she looked a bit older then he did. What ever. He was sitting towards the front so he could show the professor anything that she would require him to say. Would he be raising his hand for any questions? No. That would require communicating rather it be silent or not and he wasn't about to do that, even if he desperately wanted to.

Maeve did not do numbers. She didn't do anything that required her to sit for long periods of time, actually, but particularly disliked anything that required attention to detail and Arithmancy was one of those subjects. Another thing she disliked? Lessons at the crack of dawn. She'd barely had time to run down to the Great Hall and eat a quick breakfast before heading up to the Arithmancy Classroom. Honestly, how rude of the professor? Who did she think she was?
Yet the blonde was somehow here on time. A biscuit or two in her robe pocket from breakfast along with some fever fancy candies from opening feast. Just in case class got to be too much for her.
Finding a seat close to the door so she could make a quick escape if need be, the sixth year gave a small nod at the Professor. At least she had pretty handwriting.

Valencia was unsure why the board specified that they needed clean robes. Who wasn't wearing clean robes? That was weird. Oh well. She'd try not to be bothered.
IT WAS FINALLY SCHOOL TIME.
The young Ravenclaw enjoyed learning and enjoyed being in educational settings.
"Hello Professor." she greeted before taking an empty seat.

Maxie sat directly beside Odaline. He had a plan. A big one. She was scary, but not just for him- for everyone- so, if he sat next to Oda people would leave him alone thanks to her presence. it was full-proof, or so he believed. "H-hello." He said, greeting his fellow second-year with a little nod as he settled in. Carefully laying out his textbook, quill and ink pot, Maxie almost felt like humming- so pleased he was with himself.
The Hufflepuff brushed his fingers over his quill's feathers, a small habit he had formed while waiting in other - usually more stress-related - classes. This new Professor, Maxie had seen her at the feast, and then of course at every meal, but he still had very little idea what to expect from her. He sincerely believed in most of the adults who taught here - even the meaner, drummer ones - but that didn't mean his guard wasn't up.
Caution was, after all, his other other middle name. "M-morning, Professor." Maxie greeted, licking his dry lips.

It was starting to get harder and harder to wake up early. Sure, it was still the first week and he hadn’t gotten used to the new timetable yet but........ no. No no no. To make matters worse, they had Arithmancy at this time of the day. That was not on.
But even if he didn’t want to get out of bed earlier, he also didn’t want to be late either and so, he found himself stuffing the last bit of toast into his mouth and furiously munching along as he walked down the corridor to the class. Munch munch, chomp chomp. He did, unfortunately, find himself lingering by the door to let his mouth catch up but that was expected.
It was only when he’d swallowed the last bit of toast - and wiped any crumbs off of his robes - that he entered the classroom. "Hello, Professor," he said quietly, making his way towards the nearest empty seat he could find and settling himself down. He glanced over at the blackboard and then at-
Analiese had a good feeling about lessons this morning. She walked into the Arithmancy classroom and smiled at the professor. She sat down at her desk and took out her required... things. The 11-year-old caught Austin's eye and gave him a little wave.
Analiese looked at her reflection in the window. Oh no. She'd been walking around the school with a beadhead. But to be honest, Analiese's bedheads were very nice compared to other girls. It didn't look like a lion's mane, unlike her mum's. It just looked like her hair just finished drying after coming out of the shower. She tried her best to do her hair before class actually started. She searched through her robes for a hair tie. She pulled out a turquoise ribbon instead. A ribbon would do. Analiese tied her hair quickly.
