Back to "normal", the Arithmancy classroom had refashioned itself over the few days since the last lesson. The chairs and desks were now arranged in a semi-circle, with the larger desk for Hadley completing the circle. It almost looked like how one might imagine a Kindergarten classroom to appear, minus the large desks with a shelf under them.
Professor Hadley sat perched in the chair at her own desk, her hands placed neatly on top of it. There were however, two items that were normally found in her office which seemed to have made their way to the classroom. If you'd visited the Professors office, you might recognize the faces in the photographs - one containing the Professor herself with her two sisters and the other of her parents.
"Take your seats, we'll begin shortly," Hadley said, rather cheerfully.
ooc: The actual lesson will be begin in approximately 14 hours from now. You're welcome to RP your characters entering, but please limit your chattering. You've been warned. Also, if you haven't submitted your homework, you have until the actual lesson opens. (So ~14 hours). They'll be graded over the weekend/next week - for those who have submitted. The lesson has begun... If you missed RPing your characters entering just pretend like you've been here the whole time. =)
Now here was a kid Josh could learn from. "Captain Blunt! Problem solver, eh? Like figuring out some plays for the Ravenclaw Quidditch team?" Perhaps a touchdown would do it. Heh. "Just remember though these are themes that may apply to specific scenarios in your life. They themselves are hardly specific, but it is your interpretation that makes them unique to you."
Jacob was shocked when he was addressed as 'Captain Blunt' it had usually been what he's addressed by when in trouble. Jacob couldn't have gotten the numbers wrong... Jacob was never wrong! And the whole 'Captain' title was still something he needed to get used to. He'd gotten used to it by his team, but the Professors were calling him Captain now, and it was weird.
"But professor, I don't solve problems, I cause them." In the form of Bludgers causing bodily injuries. I was a reason he was Captain and not Prefect. He couldn't handle the whole cool headed thing, and being polite. Jacob would just Deck 'em
And how would he put this in a specific senario... 'oh yeah, I'm a problem solver cause I finished a 10 peice puzzle'... it just didn't make much sense. Being a problem solver meant you had to consistently solve problems of other people, and yourself... What ever.

You have the ability to build things that will benefit large groups... The skills of leadership and good work ethic. Endurance. Traits that are admirable in a Gryffindor as well, if I may say so."
Nika quickly looked up at the sound of the loud whistle. "Oh I'm sorry Professor I will pay better attention from now on." Nika gave herself a mental slap in the head. Master numbers. The only exception. Nika had expected not to do so well in Arithmancy. It was just too much math for her liking. "The number 22 makes a lot more sense. The number 4 didn't describe me at all!" Nika looked at her professor while she explained the number even further to Nika. Heh, the hat had put her in the right house after all.

Oh, no, Jaina thought. She'd thought for sure she'd gotten Charley in trouble. She was trying to muster up a 'Yes, ma'am' but it some how got caught. She coughed covering her mouth and then seemed to breath a little easier. "Yes, ma'am. I'll come with her," she said. If Jaina got them into trouble, Jaina was gonna see to it that she got her out of it.

She noticed the girl adjusting her arm to cover up the parchment. "We don't have to talk about your family number unless you want to. When you're ready, you let me know." Pause. Awkward. Hadley bit her lower lip cautiously, before proceeding. "If you'd like to leave... if it's making you that uncomfortable, you can leave. I won't take it personally and it's with my permission. But if you do stay, then I think you'll find most of the personal family discussions are nearing its finish." Because while some of them might have personal connections to their destination, it wouldn't be like this. No, it would be more positive... hopefully.
Kurumi nodded to Professor Hadley once more and continued to cover the lower part of her parchment with her paper. She didn't want to walk out of the class since she was here to learn, but she wasn't ready to talk about all this...nor did she really want to think more deeply about it. Looking at the whisps of hair that had fallen over her right cheek, she saw that it was still a dark blue color. She needed to calm down before everyone found out and made things even worse.
"I'd like to say," Kurumi finally said in a small voice. "May I complete this portion of the in class activity later and bring it to your office?"

"Yes... yes... very nice Treyen! And you didn't think you had the aptitude for Arithmancy..." Hadley mused, smiling at him. "You've got all the right ideas down though about your family name number. And Lockhart too... Very famous name." In other words, high expectations for you, young boy.
Well....what?!
Thanks Hadley for sharing that with everyone. Still, he didn't think he had the aptitude, mind you, but according to the textbook description, the Lockharts did have something to do with analysis and observation...which will instinctively lead to...interpretations. So, yeah.
The boy nodded, with a small smile. He did get the right ideas. Good. But then she had to go ahead and mentioned the word 'famous'. Well, he shrugged, she must have meant the two Quidditch people in her family, and all the writers, no? Not only Gilderoy.

"Ohhh." K-Lee said as the teacher pointed out her mistake. Face turning a slight pink, she gave a smile to the teacher. "Thanks." She said as she read the page.
Hmmm...

SIX (6): You inherit a conservative attitude that sees helping others as the responsible thing to do. You are an excellent problem solver and are family-oriented. You may have inherited a stubborn streak as well as strong opinions.
Picking up her quill and scratching out her previous statement, K-Lee re-wrote her interpretation for it.
Quote:
This interpretation fits my family fairly well. My dad is all for acting responsible and if you have ability to do something that you have to do it. My mother has strong opinions about many things, and makes sure that if my siblings and I have something to say that we say it, that we stand up for what we believe in. We are all fairly stubborn and stick by our opinions.
Striding by another Emily's desk again as she heard a thank you, Professor Hadley couldn't help but notice something in common between the two Emily's. Despite the differing houses they were both overachievers in calculating another family name. "Very nice. You know though that you shouldn't be so shocked by the influence your adoptive family has on you. The family name number, as mentioned before uncovers truths in your surname, whether this be your birth name, adopted name, or eventually your married name. It reveals information about traits of that family, which if you recall about families, are passed down to you. Whether you realize it or not."
Emily's mood seemed to go up again. Mabye Arithmancy wasn't as bad as she had first thought. "I just never really thought about how my adoptive family has... passed on traits to me I guess. I only think of genes my biological parents passed on to me." They were all the bad ones as well. She definatly prefered where she was at now.

And I'm sure some of your friends would agree." Not Josh, but Destiny and Marie for sure. "And it doesn't matter truly if your family members don't seem to fit this number. Just remember that these are general themes. They aren't laws. They aren't even set in stone. So ... Er, do me a favor? Don't rush into marrying someone just because you like they're family name number better. That's hardly a reason to get married." Oh yes, take it from her, the perpetually single, almost thirty year old professor.
Meep?
Finally blinking, the Slytherin girl turned her gaze to the Professo- OMG SHE SHRUNK! Wait, no. False alarm. She inherited the fun-loving, optimistic nature of her family name? Well...pffft. That may have been true. It was just that the others in her family didn't seem to fit the description, which made her QUESTION the numbers. However, the professor was right. She shouldn't take this all so seriously right?
...O_O! Stop saying the 'M' word!
"Yea, okay." she muttered, eyes flickering over to Josh. Right. Don't take the numbers seriously and don't marryewbleh someone because she didn't like her family name number. Got it. That didn't stop her from having a totttaaalllly different view on arithmancy though.
See Josh! Even Patroclus and his perfect family wasn't being all smug and conceited and bragging! "Subtle pride. I like that. And your interpretation. Very nice, Prefect Hudson." You make Gryffindors proud.
Woo!
Patroclus couldn't help but grin as the Professor gave him kudos, for his totally awesome family, I mean......he's wonderfuly subtly awesome family.
Looking over the text book again, he added to the end of his parchment;

Family Number is Nine
‘NINE (9): You inherit an artistic flair, a concern for others, an emotional nature, generosity, a sense of needing to serve, a philanthropic nature, and an attitude of looking for what is possible.’
Interpretation: I see artistic as being rather a perfect fit for my family, we are a nice little bunch of snappy dressers, with each having their own style. We do most things with flair anyway, not at all alright with performing something at half-mast or with less than one hundred precent originality. I have always been brought up to have empathy for those around me, to never over-look someone or judge them. The last sentence ‘looking for what is possible’ couldn’t be more us if you tried; with a father who is a WizArchaeologist, as a family we have travelled the world, looking for what is possible.
'A need to serve', a possible allusion to my position as Prefect, and Prometheus' job as a Magical Law Enforcment Lawyer.
It was amazing how much information one could make for just a collection of words, based around a number, then again it was an art; and Patroclus and the rest of the Hudsons did have Artistic Flair!

Professor Hadley stared at Jake for a moment disbelieving. He so wasn't getting it at all... the concepts of metaphors and stuff. Perhaps she ought to discuss with Jeremy about having a lesson on muggle literature. That ought to fix things up for these kids, right?

Of course you cause problems... Ugh.. Seriously, Professor Hadley was beginning to think ... no scratch that, now she truly did believe that there WAS something in a name. Yup. It was all there; Jacobs are problem-creators.
Perhaps you should learn to solve problems. Ravenclaw might win then, Hadley bit her lower lip to keep from actually speaking those words. Cause last thing she needed was Blunt to go whining to Max about her. "Solve your own problems then. Perhaps you could start there?" Yup. Because whether he was aware or not, Blunts were problem-solvers.

Was it just her or was Evelyn unusually quiet?
Perhaps she just needed time to think through things. Yup that had to be it. Nodding quietly at the girl, she gave her a small smile of comfort before moving on.
The time has now come... With the lesson hour drawing to a close, they had to leave now if they wanted to see the spot that Professor Hadley wanted to point out. "Now... If you will all put your things away ... or you can leave them and come back for them after our walk, we're going to go on a journey to the third floor..."
Hadley walked toward the exit. "So please, grab a peppermint on your way out for some cheering up and let us depart..." With that, she waited for everyone to depart the classroom before locking the room up and leading the way ...

Charley put her materials back into her bag and stood up. She grabbed two peppermints on her way out-one for her and one for Jaina, of course-then waited up for Jaina so they could walk together.

A journey to...the third floor...
Eh, that didn't sound all that exciting right now but...walking sounded good. Yush. Getting up and moving around. Exercise! Standing up, the Slytherin crossed her arms and followed everyone else...except doubling back to take a peppermint.
Theeeen she continued to follow everyone else. And perhaps went back to her usual self of glaring at everyone too.
Jake DID take his feet off the desk, but onnnnnnly because they were off to somewhere else. He collected up his stuff and was one of the first out. Wooooooooot.

Watching the Slythering girl blush, Josh smiled some observing how adorable she looked when she blushed like that. Well she was always adorable but when blushed that was a different look of adorable. Yes, a different one that he could not take his eyes from until the professor practically yelled his name which made the Gryffindor boy, rather unwillingly, look up at her.
That was right. He was Josh Carter.

Ah! Considering what she had said so far, it looked like the professor NEEDED to be informed about some crucial data about the case. Like...first of all... Well...he did not know if the woman listened to his explanation or paid any attention to it or whatever else. He did not care, he just felt like he needed to explain it so she'd not complain about him not explaining it before when she found out the truth in the future. Hehe.
SPOILER!!: To the Third Floor

Hadley walked toward the exit. "So please, grab a peppermint on your way out for some cheering up and let us depart..." With that, she waited for everyone to depart the classroom before locking the room up and leading the way ...
A change of air. That was going to be good. Josh was bored of sitting here anyway so with that opportunity he could finally mooove. After eyeing the professor woman carefully, the Gryffindor grabbed his parchment of calculations and the master number with the quill putting them safely in his pocket.
Then he grabbed two peppermints as he again fixed his eyes on Evelyn who was already leaving the class. Hopefully she seemed to be...fine. Not embarassed or else like before. Nice. So simply grinning to himself, the boy threw one peppermint in his mouth and left the class after the other students with an air of over confidence.

ONE (1): You inherit an independent spirit, a forceful nature, a strong will, and the ability to come up with original ideas.
My Interpretation: This fits with my father's family almost perfectly. We Reagans pride ourselves in our strength and fortitude. In the words of Headmaster Tate, we have "steeled our spines." Our pure-blood Irish lineage can be traced back to the early Goblin Rebellions, in which one of my great grandfathers, Wesley, surprised what was meant to be a rebel ambush. My father says even those cut off from the family, who have mixed with muggles until they too hardly any magical blood left, have earned renowned fame.
The Hufflepuff, a tad behind the rest, finished working and set her writing utensil aside. With one arm, she covered the still-glistening words, hiding them from view. Her eyebrows were set low, abnormally severe, and her teeth, finding her bottom lip, bit down hard.
Conveniently, she had completed her assignment just in time to hear Professor Hadley give the next directions.
Oooh! A journey! Perking up noticeably, Wesley eagerly shut her worn, Arithmancy journal and screwed the lid onto her ink bottle. Then she ran her still wet quill across her palm to drain the black liquid. Gently tucking her supplies into her tote, the sixth year stood up and pushed in her chair.
Accidentally forgetting the mints in her excitement, Wesley eagerly followed the others out the room.
What is family? Who are they? What does it mean to you as a person? To who you will become? Audrey sat almost startled by the question. Having a younger sister who was adopted at birth made 'family' such a grey area for her, not to mention she didn't really 'get along' with her pureblood Americano family.
"Family is," Audrey began to scrawl down "a complex system of kinship found in almost every culture in the world."
'Reading those muggle Anthropology books is finally starting to pay off.' Audrey thought
"In today's society, there is really no one true definition of who is in a 'family'. What most people tend to think of when they think of a family is a nuclear family, which consists of a biological father, biological mother, and sons & daughters. Most people in today's world have "step" family, which is considered to them as family."
'To me as a person?' Audrey smacked her quill at an invisible something as she tried to think.
'Family means Ohana, no one gets left behind' she smiled as she remembered a very good muggle movie that dealt with the topic of family.
"Family means you accept & love one another despite faults, & help each other out. Family can shape who we become because we learn values from them & also life skills."
