As you enter the classroom you notice that this looks exactly like a normal everyday classroom. Desks lined up in rows and Professor Sokolov up at a his desk in the front lounging in his chair. The only difference is what is written on the board behind Professor Sokolov would not be be found in any normal school. Runic Alphabet. That is what the students would be learning today.
Also each desk has a rune engraved in it. But that is for later.
Right Underneath Runic Alphabet. He wrote
No Assigned Seats sit where you please
Come in and lets continue Professor Sokolov trying to remember your name.
OOC: Hey Everyone! I will be moving in about 24 hours. Also while this is the OUR first lesson together it is not YOUR charrie's first lesson
Nope. No idea. She didn't even know that kind of letter existed! To her its just a bunch of squiggly lines. The Professor said if don't want to answer out loud, they need to write it down. So the first year did that, copied that squiggly line to her notebook.

Whether it morning or afternoon really didn't bother Hadleigh in the least. The only fact that she currently cared about was that she was sitting in the proper lesson at the proper time and that no one was causing any trouble. Really it was just a win win right there for her.
She wrinkled her nose a little bit at Sokolov's raised voice for them to quiet down. Had they been that loud? She hadn't thought so but whatever it didn't matter. Listening quietly to the man speak she pulled her sheet of parchment closer and picked up her quill so as to take down a sketch of what had appeared on the board along with the alphabet that was already there.
As for the question that had been asked there wasn't any point in answering that one. At least not loud as Charlotte and several others did a nice job with it. No sense in repeating them same things again. So for now she simply stuck to taking down notes.

Sam had to suppress a giggle as the Professor introduced the alphabet they were studying today. Maybe it was just the way the Professor said it, but seriously, futhark? No, no one else found the word even the slightest bit amusing?
Well then.
Sam bit on the inside of hers lips, trying to keep the giggle in. She had an inclination that Solohov was not that kind of chap that would take lightly to giggling in class. With any luck, he'd be totally distracted by the long winded answer that Miss-Know-It-All Gryffindor (aka Charlotte) had over there. The Ravenclaw couldn't possibly add anything to it, that was for certain.

Nodding her head excitedly at his 'Thanks', Liv made a show of opening her journal to a fresh page and doodling the date and such at the top. With little hearts, because she liked hearts. Nbd.
.....And seeing as she'd never attended a Runes lesson before (EVER, because it hadn't been offered until this year), Liv simply raised her hand and smiled as brightly as possible. "Sir, I don't know anything about the Elder Futher, but I'm super excited to learn." She'd mispronounced the second word slightly due to it being completely foreign to her, and her mouth couldn't quite form the awkward syllables. BUT her classmates seemed to be 'in the know', so wielding her glitter pen, she took to jotting down all the things being said. Mainly from Charlotte, who'd seemed to swallow a textbook.
Maybe Char could help her! Yes, Liv would inquire after class, caaaause she was serious about doing well in all her lessons this year. Because Disney.

Janelle was glancing through her textbook when the professor called the class to order. Shutting her book, she turned her attention to the man in charge. Wondering what the topic of the day would be, Janelle didn't have to wait long to find out. The Elder Futhark. Ahhhhh. Their first order of business was to tell what they knew about that.
Janelle raised her hand. She had read and had some information to share with the class.........and then Charlotte gave her rather all encompassing answer. The raised hand was very slowly withdrawn. Nope. Nothing to see here. Janelle decided to go for Plan B......writing. She picked up her quill, held it over her parchment and tried to think of something that hadn't been said.

2. Each one of the runes is associated with a figure from Norse mythology.
3. When written, the runes in the Elder Furthark contain no horizontal lines, only vertical and horizontal ones.
Putting her quill down, Janelle realized she had written two random and unrelated facts. Oh well, at least she had come up with something. That done, she proceeded to take notes on the comments offered by her classmates.

He was listening to what everyone was saying, but barely. That is until Aslan spoke up. Hazel eyes turning to glance at her, Tak couldn't help but think her words over. The Elder Futhark was associated with dark magic. In what way? How did it help them? By just making the places they were attached too seem more fearful? He blinked a few times before finally drawing his eyes away from her.Tak turned back to his notebook before attempting to with another word. Esoteric. He'd have to look up what that meant to get the full context of Aslan's explanation.
She liked using uncommon words it seemed.
Over on his other side Liv- when she said that she was excited and it seemed like it. He has expected her to raise her hand, but her answer it caused his attention to focus on her even longer than it had on Aslan. She could do that? Say that she didn't know what the answer was? And [i]still[/] be excited even with the fact that she didn't know? His eyes remained on her, watching her thoughtfully.

Suffice it to say, Daxton had been struggling to make it to any of his classes so far this term. Except, 'struggling' was perhaps not the best term, as that implied some sort of sustained effort. That was not to say that he had not been to a single Ancient Runes class this term, because he had attended at least one. Or part of one. Maybe. Or had that been Arithmancy? Well, the fact that he showed his face said a lot, which was good, as Daxton would not say anything at all.
He had overslept again today, and not woken up until shortly before one o'clock in the afternoon today, right when the class had been due to start. Daxton, having always had something of an interest in Ancient Runes, had decided to just go ahead and show up late, though he made sure to take his time.
Reaching the classroom now, Daxton pushed his way into the classroom, almost lazily and with a totally unconcerned expression, and very little of the anxiety he usually felt around closed doors. After a glance around the room at the other students already assembled - noting a few significant faces here and there - and the professor, Daxton took up the seat close to the door and settled at the desk, propping his elbow on the desk and his head in his hand, tracing the rune engraved into the wood with the index finger of his free hand.
Still waking up, but now more or less present.

Whoa there professor. Whoa.
Noelle could hear the hush of the classroom as the class officially began. She scooted over so Corny could squeeze in between her and Az. Not that she wanted him to, but he was already here.
An alphabet appeared on the board and Noelle instantly began writing it down. Her alphabet looked..... rather messy compared to the alphabet that was on the board but she kept having to look up to copy that alphabet.
And who was this person or thing? Oh the alphabet. Noelle glanced over at Az, wondering if she knew anything else about . She saw her jotting down notes. That Ravenclaw bestie of hers. Brainiac.
Noelle looked up at the sharp features of the professor again. She didnt know much about the guy but could probably guess that they made the alphabet. The answers people were giving were interesting though. Like, Aslan, her answer was superb. Dark magic. Wow.

Daaaaaaaaang! Noelle was a bit snappy today. Was it because of their break up at the music shop? Oh deary, how awful. Cornelius wiggled his nose and flashed her his dimples in cheeky smile before going to sit next to Azura. Miss Az would be less likely to bite his head off.
He grinned at Azura, doing his best puppy dog eyes. " I appreciate that, Az." See. SEE, NOELLE. No snapping at him. It was nice.
AND the lesson started. Cornelius brought out parchment and a quill. Ohhh, the good old Furthark Alphabet. The boy has seen that chart much too often that he didn't need to jot that down. He raised his hand and...the blonde talking never shut up. At this rate his arm would either get stiff or fall asleep.
Talk about someone eating a textbook.
His turn. "The alphabet consists of runes that, when carved onto things and invoked with magic, can be of help. They also boost the power of spells." Ooooh. Why was he taking this class, again?
Philipe looked up from the back of the room, nope, he was just going to stay quiet for the moment. Personally this class never interested him, so he just let the other students answer and he could stay where he was, and stay the way he was... Which was quiet, and alone. He liked being away from everyone else, and he would prefer not to answer any questions, let the others have their fun.

Once the professor started to talk Nat let go of Paige's hand to flip through her book. She had seen Elder Futhark and she knew it was the alphabet, but the rest of it, well she wasn't fully sure. Opening her book she tried to look like she was at least looking for the answer, but she was truly just hoping he'd skip over her and let people with their hands up answer. She just sat and took a few deep breaths and continued to pretend to look at her book.
Her brown eyes moved to the Gryffindor that was super long winded. Seriously? She knew all that already what was she a second year? This just made her more anxious, she should know more. She was older... UGH
Putting up her hand she decided to take a guess, "Don't.... people use them for.... good luck or something?" Isn't that why they have meanings and stuff?
Hadley raised hand immediately, even before Professor Socks finished asking the question. She wanted to be the first with her answer. And then Socks finished and Hadley dropped her hand. That had been her answer. It was an alphabet. Because beyond that, she knew nothing about the Elder Furhawk.
She sat quietly and listened to other people answer. There weren't many answering which made her feel better about knowing nothing about the runes. Ace's answer got a smirk. Hads leaned forward and whispered, "Nerd," when he finished.
As usual, Ethan kept to himself as he listened to the Professor and obeyed his words. Theoretical subjects were not generally his strength, he'd always been better at the practical and logical tasks. Yet, Ancient Runes appeared to be an exception. Perhaps, because he didn't only see it as theory. Perhaps, because he felt there was more to it?
As for Eldar Futhark, he got to work as to what he knew. His brain wasn't embedded with the alphabets past or origins but rather with its possible uses. Thus, that was exactly what Ethan began scribbling about as he wrote not only his ideas but also that of what the Professor has mentioned.

Mostly from Northern Europe
If one assigns each letter to the number of it's position, one can create a second encoded version of the rune using such numbers.
These numbers are generally drawn using hosrizontal and vertical lines.
The fact he didn't know a thing about these Ancient Runes didn't make him any more interested, to be honest. Much on the contrary. He wanted to take a nap, but... he wasn't tired.
So the Gryffindor just sat there, ignoring everything people were saying, moving the palms of his hands over his desk in large circles to entertain himself. Anything was more fun than listening to this ancient talk.

Sam squirmed in her seat excitedly listening to what the professor had to say. Okay she wasn't so sure about him, he was kinda unpleasant. As she sat there trying to thing of what to say, she heard Ace answer, and that totally put something in her mind. Throwing her hand up, she shot Hadley a look that was full of slight glares and mixed feelings, as she waited to be called upon. "You can put magic in the runes. I think you have to sing to them or something, but they can do things like hide doors, a magically seal them." Yep. They were super awesome. "Oh, and they can be like invisible, only showing up under certain circumstances." And with that, the girl scribbled down moon runes onto her paper and grinned.

The Professor's correction was received with a nod, afternoon, yes, sure. It was pretty much whatever after a morning of 'Good mornings'. Clearly he'd been learning too long and it was time for the school day to be over before even graver mistakes were made.
Again, Blaise looked to the rune on his desk, barely glancing up when the man sternly called the class to quiet down. He was already quiet, the instructions had nothing to do with him. The first question of the class however was something he was likely to need to pay attention to. What he knew about it? Well there were a few things. Did she like....memorize it on the way over? Maybe he should'a gotten the kid next to him to move so she could have the spot. With her sitting here, he might seem infinitely smarter by association.
The boy simply lowered his hand, opting instead to point to his friend. "What she said, absolutely everything she said. We study together sometimes. Taught her everything she knows." And a perfectly solemn nod for the Professor before turning to Char once more and pulling a funny face at her. A sign he'd only been joking.
Bentley blinked at the Professor.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat was this class though? Why did he choose this subject again? He had no idea how to Rune or how to read runesand didn't understand what was going in. He knew Charms and Transfig and got cast spells with a thought by now (thank you grandma) but he never much paid any attention to reading or using Runes.
But Chaaaaaarlotte seemed to know....a lot.
He threw a look at Blaise when Charlotte answered. How about Charlotte do their Runes home work and he'd trade her his skill set in some other way?
"She's doing my home work." He muttered to his cousin.

Kitty scribbled down what the others were saying before raising her hand. "My mom owns several artifacts with letters written in Furthark Alphabet on them. But this is the first time I heard that they could do magic." She was referring to some of the other students answers. "They seemed like decorations to me, but then again, maybe they were just the Muggle versions. From what I've heard they were used Germamic culture as a form of linguistics."

The Elder Futhark was something he had learned at Durmstrang as well as it was pretty much the basics for ancient runes so he didn't feel that much out of place. The Ravenclaw also didn't copy the alphabet that had appeared on the blackboard because the same thing was written on the page he had open right now.
"The Elder Futhark is named like that a'cause of the first six runes" he said as he had just read it earlier when looking for his rune symbol that was on his desk.

Scarlett wasn't sure what it was about this man, but he kind of...irked her. She wasn't sure what it was. Which was weird, because he was VERY easy on the eyes so by all accounts, she should be smitten with him. Hmm. Maybe it was because she wasn't interested in this subject at all. Runes was terribly boring.
Still, she wasn't about to just sit here. She had points to earn back for her house! She raised her hand. "Well, besides being an alphabet, it's very...versatile. You can use it it to enhance your spells, translate old documents, use it in Divination like you said..." she trailed off, because she could go on, but that wouldn't leave answers for anyone else, really.

Woah this Professor's personality. He was digging it. He demanded respect which reminded him of his teachers in Durmstrang. Note to self, do not cross him. He saw him flip the board over and saw utter gibberish. He knew his cousin Kace did runes but he never thought it would be this complicated. He was scribbling doodles first of all to help himself pay attention. He heard other students' answers and he smirked when he heard Haday call a kid a nerd. Typical Hady. He nudged her and said, "Hey that was my line.."
He couldn't help but know a thing or two and he scribbled in his notebook for the Professor to see, he wasn't gonna raise his hand. Too much effort on his part plus he didn't want to be called out.

Clara was getting ready to tell Chloe something when she felt something hit her. She froze & immediately turned her head around looking straight at Bentley assuming it was him. But then her attention was on Blaise giving him a small smile, lucky for Bentley that his cousin was there, not to mention the Professor being right in front of her too, otherwise she would have taken the opportunity to throw something at him.
Before she knew it class had begun, very intensely might she add, & her attention was now focused on Professor Sokolov. The redhead listened as he begun the lesson asking his first question, which Char answered almost immediately. Oh snap, look at her go, you go girl! She couldn't help but give her friend a view congratulatory snaps.
Genny walked into the classroom by mistake. She did not take runes because simply she loved her marbles to remain intact. As soon as she put foot inside the classroom, though, her eyes spotted one face...
... and her feet automatically kept going until she was seated on the desk behind the Slytherin girl. That was stunning as always. Genny's cheeks got a little hot when their eyes locked but she decided to frown and focus on Torrance sitting a couple desks away. Yep. Hullo friend! And professor. Ahem.
Now... was she supposed to stay here ALL morning?? She looked at who was here and spotted Spitter over there, yuck, he would attend this class. Boring and mind-numbing as he was. pft. Who else was here? Some cool people but otherwise it was just a meh class.
Hmm?? Why did the professor's words sound much uglier than his face? Genny made a face at him when he demanded silence and asked a difficult question. She crossed her arms defensively and watched. She did not have to answer anyway.

Sam had to suppress a giggle as the Professor introduced the alphabet they were studying today. Maybe it was just the way the Professor said it, but seriously, futhark? No, no one else found the word even the slightest bit amusing?
Well then.
Sam bit on the inside of hers lips, trying to keep the giggle in. She had an inclination that Solohov was not that kind of chap that would take lightly to giggling in class. With any luck, he'd be totally distracted by the long winded answer that Miss-Know-It-All Gryffindor (aka Charlotte) had over there. The Ravenclaw couldn't possibly add anything to it, that was for certain.

Putting her quill down, Janelle realized she had written two random and unrelated facts. Oh well, at least she had come up with something. That done, she proceeded to take notes on the comments offered by her classmates.

If one assigns each letter to the number of it's position, one can create a second encoded version of the rune using such numbers.
These numbers are generally drawn using hosrizontal and vertical lines.

Quiet was good expect in this case with Mr. Prince deciding to join the lesson. He almost called him out but what would that accomplish. The kid did not care about points or being called out in public. At least he was attending a class in general. Viktor will just tell his Head of House later on but this. Not like he expected Hirsch to do anything. But yeah he is Hirsch's problem to deal with.
Still he found a seat and was being quiet. Nothing really wrong with that if you excuse him being a little late.

And a perfectly solemn nod for the Professor before turning to Char once more and pulling a funny face at her. A sign he'd only been joking.
And it started. Viktor nodded and him and wait to see if he was going to add anything else. But now that would be hoping for too much.

Oeh oeh, maybe this class wasn’t so bad, learning about a strange alphabet wasn’t such a big thing, it even could be handy because you never knew when you could use a language nobody else really understood, especially at home, Muggles didn’t knew runes, until today she herself even hadn’t heard about it!
Uruz? Had she been right and was that a U letter!? Cool! Maybe she was going to get good at it, she hoped it because she started to like this class, what was strange because she had thought about it as boring at first, boring AND difficult! Quick she made a few more notes to make sure that she wasn’t forgetting anything before really looking at the rune before her on her own desk. Hmm, this one looked interesting, but she absolutely had no idea how it was called and what meaning it had.
So, she flipped her textbook open and searched for the rune she saw. “Jera” she muttered softly to herself and she saw really a lot information in her textbook! good harvest, orbits, cycles, progress, biorhythms, right effort… She quick noted all those things down, just to make sure that she had a few answers and because they all seemed to important to the first year Slytherin, although she wasn’t sure about the meaning of all those things, but… That was something she needed to find out another time!
While being done with writhing she suddenly raised her hand, deciding that she really wanted to know the answer to her silent question. “Professor, I’m wondering… Is this Rune alphabet also uses by Muggles or is it only known in the wizarding world?”

Oh Merlin he was moving a tiny bit closer - which was her own fault for not using at least a normal voice during class discussion - and served as another small reminder that karmic lessons could be found everywhere. Note taking was proving to be a bit difficult with just one hand, her parchment moving every which way with the subtlest movement of her wrist, so her notes were looking disheveled and almost as though she had written them blind folded while riding on the Knight Bus. Which meant she would be rewriting these later.
And now was the time to finish the task she had started from the moment she had sat down. At least she had narrowed it down through class discussion that it was NOT any of the runes she had listed associated with healing. That much had been sparked from her memory. Not was it the same rune on the board the professor was describing so... that helped as well.
Glancing first back and forth between her desk and the blackboard to at least figure out which Aett she was working with, the seventh year eventually discovered that it was a rune belonging to the second and thus her attention went back to her textbook while she clumsily flipped through the pages.
"Perthro?" she whispered to herself as she tripled and quadrupled checked. "Rebirth, mystery, magic, divination..." She paused as the color in her cheeks rose and made her simply read over the next divination meanings before she continuing to softly read aloud. "...new beginning, prophecy..."
Oh wait...he had told them NOT to bother with the divination meanings...oops. Chewing on the inside of her cheek, Paige's blue eyes scanned the page for the actually requested information and quickly added it to her parchment underneath her own drawing of the rune. He had just said ONE...but it seemed a waste not to list them all since they were so readily available in the textbook. She did, however, accent the one, ones rather, which she found the most appealing.

Hmmm...interesting that she had selected this particular desk considering the way the rune seemed to resonate with her on various levels. Was this rune carved anywhere in the birthing ward at St. Mungo's? Now she wished she had paid more attention to that sort of fine detail during her internship and was now too curious not to ask the next time she was there for a seminar.

Ahem, anyway, more note-taking, and glances for Tak, who hadn't said anything, but Liv didn't blame him too much. This was his first lesson ever at Hogwarts. So, it might've been a lot to take in? Psh, she didn't know his life, okay? BUT, as a reminder that she appreciated him, the blonde reached over and brushed his arm, offering a smile.

Now ... to figure out what Rune was carved into her desk. Moving the textbook and her journal to get a better look at it, she noted that the rune itself kinda resembled a stick figure doodle of a fish. Yea, there was no other way to describe it. It DEFINITELY looked like a fish: specifically the ones she used to draw on her bedroom wall at home when she was much younger. Hehe, oops.
With the mental image of it fresh in her mind, she set about putting the textbook and her notebook back into place, flipping through to see if she could spot any runes that appeared to be fishes. Doodley fishes. Hmmmm .. .. .. .. .. .. ..

After her third pass through the book, the blond was nearly ready to toss it against a wall, when she noted two pages kinda sticking together. Oh. OOPS. She'd .... um, gotten a bit of chocolate in her book. Ahem, you know, when she'd been forced to look through it at home, by her mum. Ooooops.
