Back in the castle, James animatedly discussed quidditch and tactics over lunch. There were only two other instances where his whole face would light up in this way.
The first, was when we planned a prank, or any kind of devious plot, and the second, whenever he got to see Lily.
“Amelia is fast and slim, the Slytherin seeker is like a troll.” I commented, smirking at the thought.
“Even if he finds the snitch before Amelia, he’ll probably just flail and fall off of his broom.” James laughed. The first game of the year was Gryffindor vs. Slytherin, and it was one that was always anticipated.
I especially looked forward to it, with Slytherins on the team that I really hated most, like Lucius Malfoy, and my dear, dear brother, Regulus.
“So, how are you feeling, Captain?” Melissa walked up to them, smiling at James.
He grinned, in response. “Excellent. Ready to start quidditch for the year?”
“Oh, I am so ready. The other houses have no chance.” Melissa said, a small smirk on her lips. “I’ll see you at practice.” She said to James. “And I’ll talk to you later.” Mel said to Remus, waving.
“Mel is right, they have no chance.”
“Winning has made you cocky, James. You wouldn’t want to let your guard down.” Clarisa said with a smirk.
“Oh, I wouldn’t do that. I’m aware of our competition, like Sirius’ brother. He’s a good player, so we need to be careful of him, like we do with Malfoy.”
“What about me then?” She asked. “Since obviously, I’m not good enough to play you.”
“I didn’t say that.” James said. “I said that your team couldn’t beat mine, because I think that my team is brilliant, really. But seeing you play, even for a short time, you look good. I wouldn’t mind having you on my team, and playing against you might be a nice challenge.”
“But you still feel like you’d win,” Clarisa said, smiling at his compliment. Because from all that she’d seen and heard of James, he was a brilliant quidditch player.
“Obviously.”
“I have a little surprise for you, then.” Clarisa said, but before she could say anything, two girls had come over.
Clarisa grinned. “Hey girls.” She looked back to James, Sirius and Remus. “This is my best friend Sasha, who is from Spain like me,” she said, motioning to one of the girls.
Sasha had tanned skin and her hair was a very light shade of brown. Her eyes were a soft brown and she grinned at us. “It’s so nice to finally meet you all.”
“This, everyone, is Rianne,” Clarisa motioned to the other girl. She had blonde hair that cascaded down her back, and very dark brown eyes. “I just meet her recently, she’s from Italy.”
“Hello,” she said, her eyes falling over James, Remus and me, before they returned to Clarisa. “I have a friend who was also wondering about it.”
“Tomorrow, around one.” Clarisa said.
The two girls left, and I turned to look at Clarisa, as did James and Remus. “Well, what’s going on?” I asked, curious.
