“It’s so typical of you, Sirius. Using a pretty exchange student as your excuse for being out so late.” But Aaron said this with a small smile.

“That hurts, Aaron! Thinking so little of me.” I said.

“Surprising, isn’t it? Who could possibly think bad of you, Sirius?” Aaron said.

Clarisa watched them, amused. But she looked at Aaron and smiled at him. “You think I’m pretty?” She grinned. I laughed when Aaron didn’t even look embarrassed.

He wasn’t on to be easily bothered or embarrassed, but he also found a way to always tell the truth, and still be really nice.

“I tell the truth.” He said. “You two should go back to your common room, though. Before someone more responsible then me come along.” Aaron chuckled.

“Yes Sir.” I said, smirking. “Wouldn’t want to get you in trouble, either, would we?” The boy was quite used to my teasing, and he simply rolled his eyes.

When we were walking up the steps, I looked at Clarisa. “Why do girls do that?” I asked, running my hand through my hair.

“What?” She asked, a bit confused.

“You know, when they’re complimented they act as if they don’t know it already, when they do.” It didn’t make sense.

“Oh.” Clarisa chuckled, smiling. “I’m not really surprised you don’t really get it.” She said,

“What’s that mean?” I asked, raising my eyebrow. She didn’t say it in a mean way, or anything, but she seemed to be inferring something.

“It’s just that you’re complimented all the time, you’re used to it and you just take it in your stride because it’s just normal to you, but it doesn’t make a difference to you anyway. Girls always like being told they look nice.”

I shook my head – I still didn’t get it.

“Don’t worry about it.” Clarisa said.

“I wasn’t planning on it.” I said with a chuckle. I had more important things to think about then the complex minds of girls – like food, pranks, and flirting with girls.

We were at the common room before long, and I grinned at Clarisa. “Welcome, to Gryffindor.”
