Chapter Two
Indiana stopped at the kitchen door. Inside the room, Mrs Weasley was absent-mindedly cooking something, perhaps for during the meeting. Mr Weasley was frowning at the Daily Prophet, it's moving pictures not holding Indiana's attention.
At the head of the table, Sirius Black was flipping a coaster between his fingers, a blank and bored look having been set in his features for weeks now. Indiana had to feel sorry for him, he'd not been out since he escaped from Azkaban. Well, Indie hadn't been out much either, but that was because she was usually too tired.
"Oh, I didn't see you walk in dear," Mrs Weasley said suddenly, startling Indie. Her head shot from Sirius to the direction of Mrs Weasley's voice, and she added a quick, small smile.
"Yeah, I figured the meeting would be soon," she said, "so I came downstairs."
"Well the meeting won't start until Remus and Mad-Eye come back from getting Harry," Mrs Weasley said.
Indiana nodded, and took a seat beside Sirius, sighing. The atmosphere would become immediately tense once Harry Potter arrived. Indiana had never really gotten on with him, she didn’t really know why.
Hermione and Ginny walked in, smiled, and then sat down near Mr Weasley. Indie slowly shuffled over and sat by them.
“Hi, how’s going?” she asked, leaning sideways to see both of their faces. Ginny smiled brightly, and opened her mouth to reply.
“Great!” she exclaimed, “How are you? Not too tired I hope.”
The ginger-haired girl continued to look genuinely interested, as Hermione turned.
“Yes, I hope you’re okay, you seemed very faint after the last meeting,” she added.
Indie laughed quietly. It was nice to have someone care, since her own parents didn’t really take much notice of her and her siblings.
“Yeh, I’m not too bad,” Indie said, “I didn’t get much sleep last night. Too busy siftin through evil minds I guess.”
“Indiana, you shouldn’t be sarcastic about your gift,” Mrs Weasley scolded, “you’re an absolute godsend to us, and you know it.”
Indiana looked to Hermione and Ginny, and they all rolled their eyes.
Mrs Weasley was always going on about how much good Indie was doing for the Order and how much it helped.
Frankly, Indie was sick of it. Yes, it was helpful, and yes it was going to help Harry stop Lord Voldemort, but...Indie didn’t even know how to describe it.
The constant reading of people’s minds put her in danger. By getting into their heads, she was opening holes and ways for others to get in. Or worse, for them to get out.
Thinking of this led Indie to an incident the other day. She had been sifting through Lucius Malfoy’s mind, and had opened a whole new door that showed her schemes, plots and ideas. It was a treasure trove, but it was full of landmines. She nearly got caught, and she could feel Lucius following her. The entrance she’d made, the door she’d opened, had allowed Lucius to get out.
See, when you were using Legillimency, Indie often thought of it as navigating through a castle. Some paths were clear, others were blocked or dangerous. A lot of the doors were locked, and you had to find the key to get in. And, if the castle guard found out you were there, you had to run as fast as you could to get away. You had to sneak around, be discreet, or risk being caught.
Indie had been lucky to not get caught, until she was nearly discovered by Lucius. Now, most of the Death Eaters were on guard for it now. They were ready for her, which made the task a whole lot harder.
Either way, Indie hated what she could do.
All of the daydreaming had allowed up to ten minutes to pass, and there was a knock on the front door. Mrs Weasley bustled out of the kitchen, and doen the hallway.
Sirius had perked up, and Snape had arrived in the few short minutes Indie had been lost in her own mind.
Hermione had turned to look down the hallway, and now turned back to Indie and Ginny.
“Looks like Harry’s here.”
