CHAPTER NINE

The Wedding of James and Lily, Not To Be Forgotten

First a Note from the Author:
I must encourage anyone reading this, to remember that this is purely fictitious and the use of certain licenses gives advantages to the writer. To say that I believe in true love, and marriage being a wonderful and precious union is factual.

However, I do not suggest or give advice for any couple to jump into any serious relationship and especially marriage when they are only seventeen as James and Lily are. They are in set circumstances, and literally taught to be an adult at seventeen.

In addition, they, being magical folk, will be living in a world of magic wherein their survival depends upon them making adult decisions. Moreover, James and Lily are both quite literally alone. I want to afford them the comfort of being able to marry and be happy. James is well off, and proven to be a very credible wizard, and does secret work for the Ministry of Magic, much like Muggles CIA agents for the American Government. Now that being said, let us get back to the story.

Lily and James apparated to Petunia and Vernon’s early the next morning, to invite them to the wedding. They said they were on their way to the Islands for their honeymoon, and respectfully declined. Instead, they sent a wedding present of a very ugly vase decorated with paintings of dogs. Tom recognized it as a gift Petunia and Vernon received at their wedding from Marge.

So it was then that, James and Lily went before the minister of James’s Church to be married. It was just going to be a small wedding in the country church with their best friends. However, being magical folk, it was only a small task for their friends to arrange a large wedding and to have the whole of Godric’s Hollow, Albus Dumbledore and a few other professors from Hogwarts to attend. Beautiful flowers appeared and arranged themselves quite adequately, adorning the wedding party, guests, the minister, and the sanctuary. Stunning arrangements of Lilacs, Lily of the Valley, Gardenias, Jasmine, Wisteria, Roses, Orchids, Gladiolas, Irises, Holly Hocks and a myriad of small flowers and vines, were under the swift guidance of, Professor Pomona Sprout.

Professor Flitwick was conducting an Orchestra playing, “The Wedding Song (There Is Love)” by Noel "Paul" Stookey.

Professor Minerva McGonagall came hurriedly towards Lily. As she was passing James and Sirius, without even stopping, noted them, shook her head and said, “This will not do.”

She flicked her wrist and did a little swirl then jabbed her wand at them. This changed their attire to; James, white dress robes with a crimson cravat and lacy frills trimmed in hunter green down the front and around the wrists; Sirius in rich black dress robes and a crimson cravat, with lacy frills trimmed in crimson down the front, and around the wrists.

A brush went through their hair, a quick trim for Sirius to tidy up his growing beard and mustache. And although, Sirius looked much improved, James’s hair remained the same. She went on to Lily muttering something along the lines of, “wondering why it looked like the boy never combed his hair the entire time at school.”

Sirius did a bit of grumbling and scowling about, “…looking like a choir boy, and who invited that old bat anyway?” Minerva grabbed Lily’s hand and started pulling her to one of the Sunday school classrooms. She said as she looked at Lissy, “Come child, we have little time to dilly dally. Girls, come along.” K’Lari and Kelly ran to catch up.

Ottery and Teddy had been standing with their girlfriends when McGonagall whisked the anxious girls away with her, but not before she gave Ottery and Teddy the same treatment as James and Sirius. This is what I have wanted to do all my years and never had a daughter for whom I could do for. Would you allow me the honor of creating your wedding gown, your Maid of Honor, and Maid’s dresses?”

“Yes, thank you, that’s very, - it’s my honor, I’m sure.” Lily stammered. Minerva was a wonder to behold indeed. Walking around Lissy, she squinted, and then an eyebrow raised, next a great flourish of her wand, and then spoke the spell:

No buttons, or bow,
The neck and back low,
Some cleavage, but chaste,
Crimson silk, tight to the waist,
Flow free from the hips, fade crimson to white,
Make this dress a breathtaking sight.

“Yes, that’ll do nicely. Do you like it? Are you pleased?” She looked at the girls for approval.

They were speechless, but only for a moment. They nodded their heads and said, “It’s gorgeous!”

“Good, then let’s finish you, so we can get started on the maids. She said with a pleasant smile on her face. She once again focused her wand on Lissy, and with a small swirling wrist action said:

Eyes, lips, cheeks and jawbones,
Give this face pure hues and tones.
Her curls in long locks of golden hair,
Braid up the sides, tuck and flip there.
Cascade down, her sensual back bare,
Her beauty brought forth; cause all to stare.

“Yes, that’ll do it, you think? Oh, wait one more thing.” She flipped her wand and said, “Accessorize” Earrings made of small crimson colored gems hung eloquently from delicate white gold chains, and a matching necklace adorned Lissy’s ears and neck. Last of all upon her feet a pair of white satin shoes. “Now we’re done. Do you like?” Again, the girls were speechless, and could only in awe nod their heads.

Kelly, and K’Lari, looked at each other and clasped hands, as they could not contain smiles of anticipation on their faces. They knew they were about to be transformed, as Lissy was.

Minerva, made a spectacular wand maneuver and, Kelly, and K’Lari, transformed exactly as Lissy, with the exception of hunter green coloring, where Lily’s was crimson.

Kelly was always more quiet and reserved. Although she was the shortest of the friends and quiet, didn’t mean that she couldn’t take care of herself. She had a temper of a bear if angered. Now, she stood before the mirror and admired herself. She had never thought of herself as beautiful, but had always taken pride in keeping herself looking her best. She has thick, long, black, curly hair that was a contributing factor to Ottery’s notice of her. Now, McGonagall did her magic and fixed it the same as she did for Lissy. With the sides pulled away from her face, she was astonished at what she seen.

“You made me beautiful“, she exclaimed, with a shy smile on her face.
McGonagall smiled sweetly at her and said, “Nonsense child! You have always been beautiful. I simply uncovered what you have, so we can see you. I don’t know why you always hide such a precious face. The rest is only, as Dumbledore is fond of saying, “magically enhanced.”

K’Lari took her turn to look in the mirror. She was a little apprehensive to look at first. She didn’t consider herself as a Tomboy, but certainly didn’t spend long getting herself ready to meet the day. A pair of skinny leg blue jeans, that rode low and snug on the hips, a pull over blouse that just touched the top of her jeans, and her long, thick light brown hair pulled back into a high ponytail, was how she preferred to be. A girl of action and always on her toes ready to fight anyone who dared to say anything about her, and could certainly take care of herself. She gave Teddy a black eye the first time they met simply for him calling her beautiful and winking at her. It was true love ever since.
Now she looked at herself, and finally giggled saying, “I can stand this for a bit.” She pulled the bottom of her dress out to the sides and spun around, admiring herself. “Beautiful is a nice look. I can do this now and then.”

“Ok, now for the Bride.” Minerva took Lily’s hands and delicately spoke to her of her mother, and if Lily wanted in anyway to remember her.
“I love their,” nodding her head towards Lissy, K’Lari and Kelly, “dresses. Actually, Mamma’s gown was quite a bit the same, only a bit more modest, and of course, all white. She loved pearls and her favorite color was blue.

I had asked Momma if I could wear it, our frame structure was the same, and she said she would love it if I would.“ Tears started streaming down her face and she tried bravely to continue. A pause and then she said, “After the funeral, Petunia sold Mommas dress as it was too small for her to use, and she said I wasn’t worthy to wear it.”

Minerva pursed her lips and after she was sure she could speak civilly said, “There is no one more worthy to wear that dress than you, and I’m sorry Petunia’s jealousy took away her happiness.” Then she gave a sharp nod of her head as if that made her statement so.

“All is not lost though. I’m not going to think up a spell for your dress, we’ll both make it from scratch. Would you like that? However, we must hurry, before those boys, start modifying there robes.”

They looked out and sure enough, Sirius was looking around with his wand ready. “Lissy your ready, run out there and distract them. We’ll only be a moment longer.

Oh here, I have an idea.” She slipped an elegant ring on Lissy’s pinky. “When this gets warm instruct, Maestro Flitwick, to start the Wedding March, then scoot back here with Sirius, Ottery, and Teddy in tow so they can escort you to your places awaiting the bride at the alter.”

Lissy hurried out to where Sirius and James were. “Professor McGonagall says you don’t want to make her angry.” Sirius straightened and put away his wand. Turning to make some snide remark, took in the beauty that stood before him and fell heavily into the bench where upon he had been leaning. James laughed heartily and Sirius smiled mischievously.

“I think I’ve injured myself. Could someone call a nurse for me?” Lissy was indeed going to be going into the field of nursing and smiled upon the young man she so adored. “Get up silly, the wedding will be starting in just minutes.”

At this announcement from Lissy, James dropped to the seat, due to his knees giving out on him. Sirius now was the one laughing merrily. Ottery and Teddy snuck out the back door with a look of mischief on their faces.

Tom was angry and wanted to tell Minerva that Lily’s Momma’s dress was at this very moment hanging in Petunia’s closet. That she didn’t sell the dress and was just too jealous to allow Lily to wear it. He held his temptation and let Minerva have this moment with Lily, as it did wonders for both of them.

“Let’s start with the same basic dress as Lissy’s, only all white with a high bodice, attached to a wide choker collar, to accent your elegant neck. A very delicate lace, rimmed the top and bottom of the collar, then down a V shape in the front and back where Lissy’s dress was open.

A light chain of pearls hung in small swags around her collar in the lace then crossed in sophisticated swags over the V in front and back. Minerva flicked her wand and the pearls magically changed form into baby blue teardrops.

Her make up applied like the maid’s, and her hair hung lively in a body of red waves. The sides pulled up in braids with baby’s breath, and more pearls, clasped together with the veil.

“Now, how does that silly tradition go? Something old, (she took the Cameo from her own robes and attached it to the front of Lily’s choker collar. This was my Mother’s; I would love you to have it.

Something new, hmm I have it.” A very dainty ring appeared on her right pinky finger. “Give this to your first baby girl.

Something borrowed;” she poked her wand and on lily’s feet appeared Cinderella’s glass slippers.

“And finally, something blue.” Her wand aimed at her thigh, “we’ll see this at the reception when James takes it off of you. Does everything meet with your approval Dear?”

“Yes, oh yes thank you ever so much! How can I ever thank you?”

“If you don’t mind, please allow me to think of you as my daughter and your children as my grandchildren. It can be our secret.”

“I would love that, but, then I still have you to thank, something else I can do for you.”

“Some motherly advise then? Don’t wait until later (when the time is right) to have a family. If you want children, have them, because later might not come.

My husband, God rest his soul, and I wanted children, but we decided to wait until he became a full time member on his team, (he was a seeker for the Scarlet Aces) and was killed in a Quidditch World Cup match. We never had children because it was the first year he played on the team. He was to get a contract with them after the match they were playing.”

“Thank you,” Lily struggled to say as her throat was constricting. She hugged her, “Thank you Momma,” soft tears dropping off her face.

“Here now, let’s have none of that. You’ll ruin your face.” She dabbed her eyes with a new handkerchief.

Lily whispered, “Would you please sit at my Mamma’s place, up front?”

Minerva caught her breath, and with wet eyes, and her chin quivering, nodded yes in acknowledgment. “Oh, but this won’t do.” She looked at her simple robes.

She waved her wand over herself and a splendid robe of magenta settled upon her. “Now, I need an escort.” Peeking out the door, she caught the eye of Remus, and motioned him over, the same moment touching the ring on her pinky, and seen Lissy tell Flitwick to start the Wedding March. Remus appeared with an asking look on his face. “You are to be my escort.” said Minerva. He was delighted.

She flipped her wand and his tattered robes became the same as the groomsmen’s robes. His hair trimmed and brushed then, a closer shave. He was pleased and offered his arm, and as the music started, got in position to walk her to her seat traditionally reserved for the Bride’s mother.

Everyone fell in to place and Dumbledore touched his heart when he went back to collect Lily. “Be still my heart Minerva; behold your beauty that which makes my heart race!”

“Oh you, you,” not being able to come up with a suitable name to call him, and her face turning red, pointed to Lily and with a gentle shove sent him on to Lily. “Walk your “daughter” down to her man, and see you don’t step on her dress!”

Tom was so happy; he started to run up the isle to sit in the seat beside where Minerva would be sitting. “Just a minute you.” Tom stopped as though glued to the spot. He was afraid he was going to have to wait outside until the wedding was over.

“We can’t have a black cat at a wedding, even though you are striped with grey.” She flicked her wrist and Tom became as white as great fluffy clouds on a hot summer day. Much better, you may take your seat.

“It’s better than a monkey suit,” he thought, remembering the tuxedo he had to wear at Petunia’s wedding. Moreover, there would be no pillow with rings to deliver to the Groom. He strutted up the isle quite full of himself.

A photographer floated around getting pictures as the wedding proceeded without a hitch, and it was a beautiful wedding to be sure. As the Bride and Groom came out as, Mr.& Mrs. James Potter, a grand explosion of incredible and magnificent fireworks erupted in elaborate and spectacular beauty over the church. These were of course compliments of Ottery and Teddy to send off the newlyweds with their best wishes. In their way of thinking, it was more fun then throwing rice on them.
