“Sirius, Sirius!” James called. “C’monnnnn, hurry up.” He said, his voice clearly one of impatience.
“Where’s the fire?” I muttered under my breath. “Go away.” But I knew James would probably shove me onto the floor if I took any longer, so I rolled out of bed.
“I’m hungry.” James moaned childishly.
It was the first morning of Hogwarts, and, already, everything was everywhere. Except for Moony, he had all his clothes and things tidied up neatly by his bed.
Before James could drag me down to the Great Hall I quickly through on my robes and left the common room with him.
“You don’t have to be so impatient.” I muttered, still wanting to go back to bed and sleep. James just shrugged.
Down in the Great Hall, Remus was already sitting at the Gryffindor table, eating cereal while he looked through the Daily Prophet.
And Wormtail, of course, was still sleeping in our dorm. “Hey Moony, any news?” I asked sitting down beside him.
“It depends what you consider news.” Remus said with a smile. “Captain of the Holy Head Harpies has just got married.” He said, placing the paper down on the table.
I chuckled. “James will be jealous. Eh James?” I asked with a smirk, to which I got no reply. “James?” I looked around to where I was sure he had been sitting, and he was still there. He just wasn’t listening to a word I was saying.
James watched Professor McGonagall walking down at the other end of the Gryffindor table with eager eyes. She was handing out class schedules and never, never would that excite James.
I looked at and Remus but he just shrugged, bemused by James’ odd behaviour as I was.
Eventually McGonagall reached us, and she handed us all a schedule. She turned to James and it was a surprise that she didn’t look stern as she addressed him.
“Well done, Mr. Potter.” She said, placing an envelope in front of him, smiling even, before walking down the rest of the table.
I stared at James. “Well, what is it?” Clearly James knew what it was by his excited look. “Open it.” He didn’t hesitate. James ripped the envelope open and a red and gold badge fell out. It was a Quidditch Captain’s badge.
Now I understood James’ reaction.
“This is so cool.”
Peter chose that moment to run into the hall, breathless. Professor McGonagall gave him a stern look, but he ran towards us anyway.
“Hey guys! What’s happening?” He asked sitting down so quickly he nearly fell of his seat. I rolled my eyes.
“James is Quidditch Captain.” Remus explained. “Well done, James.” He smiled at his friend.
“Yeah, well done, mate.” I smirked at James. “Now you might even be as cool as me. Well, nearly.”
James was so awed by being captain it took him longer to realize what I'd said. "You only wish you could be as cool as me." He said, punching my arm.
"Owwww."
