She stopped at her current age as requested. This wasn't as bad as she thought it was. "Very close, dear. I suggest writing it out like this," Professor Shackleton wrote on her parchment: Quote:
S: 0-1
L: 1-4
O: 4-10
A: 10-11
N: 11-16
E: 16-21
"If you are eleven years old, which you must be in order to be here at Hogwarts, you are in an N Physical Transit. It switches over from A to N on your eleventh birthday." Quote:

Ella drew a little heart next to the Physical Transit she was in. She didn't even have to repeat.
"It only goes up to nine, right?" she asked nobody in particular, hoping they would understand the question. "I'm eleven." "The chart only goes up to nine, yes. Be sure to write it like this," Quote:
E: 0-5
L: 5-8
L: 8-11
A: 11-12
"Since you're eleven, you are in an A Physical Transit." Quote:

Was that right? Arabelle checked her book and the professor's work again. It looked right. But her head was so fuzzy it was hard to concentrate.
...Wait. Were they supposed to do their whole names or stop at their current age? Arabelle let out a little sigh. Her brain hurt. "You're off to a good start. Keep going dear. Determine what your current Physical Transit is." Quote:

During the years that H has listed, Matheu's best characteristic is 8. Authority, finances, business, success, material wealth, organization, self-mastery The only one he was excited about was the self-mastery. Economics was not his favorite. "You've made a minor error here." She highlighted his parchment and made the correction: Quote:

Taking in another deep breath, she looked down at her numbers. She had decided to try her hand at this once more. Okay, what could she do? She took a peek at a nearby student's results, and puzzled at how it was possible that she got these numbers. Hmm...perhaps it has to do with the placement of the letters in the alphabet? But the number range was from zero to nine and the letter "C" in her name was the only one that fit this requirement. Unless she repeated the zero through nine pattern with the rest of the alphabet? Could it be a cycle? OH, DUH. Transit Cycle!! OF COURSE!! How could she have been so careless and STUPID? Oh, boy.
Lucy excitedly picked up her quill, dipped it in ink, and scratched away on a new area of parchment, without giving a a flying cow dung about what was going on around her. While looking at her textbook, she counted..."One...two...three......hmmm...one, two...three!!" And she continued the process quite a few times, repeating her name a bajillion times and she noticed some of the students with short names like hers were doing. But as she did this, she wondered...what about the ages? Perhaps...perhaaaaaps, the number of years and...ooohhh! IDEA!! Once again, she began writing carelessly but...excitedly. Thus, the outcome was the following:
Oh, boy!! This was exciting!! Lucy wiped off the semi-dry tears from her face, made sure that the area around her eyes were clear. Whew! That was refreshing...very refreshing. But still, it embarrassed to know that she cried, almost publicly in class. "Nearly fully correct, but a small common error." She fixed the parchment. Quote:

There was a moment where he thought he understood, but the second that thought occurred, it was gone.
Onto drawing snitches. "Get working, Mr. Upstead. At the very least get your name and the numerical equivalents on your parchment. Make me believe your trying, boy."
Professor Shackleton-Clark only commented on the parchments with some errors and left those with completely correct parchments to work in peace. Even the errors made by the students were minor, and considering this was a difficult topic in Arithmancy, Macadrian was rather proud of her students. "I think now is a good time to begin the assessment of our current Physical Transits. As I mentioned before, the Physical Transit reveals your physical well-being, as well as your experiences on the material/worldly plane at a particular time in your life. I want you to find the textbook's explanation of your current Physical Transit, write it down on your parchment, and interpret what you think it means for your life this year that it applies to.
"You remember that mine was 'A'? The textbook reads for me: You have a mental approach to practical matters. This is a period of change, activity, progress, and creativity. The letter A adds independence and leadership to your personality. There can be quite a bit of travel and possibly a change of residence. You can expect promotion and opportunities. There may also be a real breakthrough in your awareness and perspective of life."
Professor Shackleton-Clark paused before explaining how this description applied to her current life, "This says I am in a period of change and activity. I just married over the summer and have begun a new life with someone else. That is certainly a very large change to make in one's life. Quite a bit of travel? Well, our wedding was held in Ireland where my family resides and then we traveled for our honeymoon to Greece. Not to mention, I'll likely be returning to our home in the country fairly frequently on my days off, so that is even more travel.
"Do you see how I'm dissecting the textbook's description? I'd like you all to do the same for your own current Physical Transit. You may begin, and you may choose whether to keep it to yourself or share it with the class."
