Ha, well, the title is used in the chapter but the song by Hinder (Better Than Me) kinda made me title the chapter this... but I didn’t use the song in the actually chapter, it’s just kind of there if you think about it.
You all know I suck at lovey-ish scenes... I tried the best I could. I can say is twinneh’s F.Fs helped!
P.S: All you ‘Dee/Dr’ fans (as I randomly came up with one day. I thought of the game DDR as I was doing a part of the sequel, aka the end cause I jumped to it, and thought of that abbreviation)...
This is your chapter guys! Well, part of it. You may not like the outcome entirely but the scene is here. As for the scene... read on. Chapter 17
Better Than Me
The rest of the break passed by quickly, and before I knew it I was on the train with Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny. The train ride passed slowly enough, the only interesting thing happening being a small box floating into the compartment. It landed on my lap and popped open. Inside was a small piece of parchment on top of wrapping. Everyone watched me closely as I opened it to read. Merry Christmas,
I got you a gift; wear it and think of me.
You have my heart,
~D.M
I folded the paper and stuffed it in the back pocket of my jeans before anyone could read it I then removed the wrapping and saw a pair of dangling earring, the teardrop at the bottom being a deep, violet gemstone. I assumed it was amethyst, but anything was possible with Draco.
Beside me, Ginny gasped.
“Those are... they match your eyes exactly!”
Hermione jumped into the seat next to me and looked. She gapped as well.
“Put them on,” she told me. Sighing dramatically, I did as I was told. She smiled when she saw how I looked, and I looked at Harry; he looked stunned.
“Harry,” Hermione snapped. He blinked and seemed to come back to reality. “What do you think?”
A smile broke onto his face as he said, “Amazing.”
Hermione looked at her watch and said, “We’ll be at Hogwarts in less than an hour. You should get changed now.”
I got up and left, carrying my robes. I went to the washrooms and changed quickly. As I came out, someone pulled me around a corner, and before I knew it a warm mouth was on mine. I took in his scent and realized it was Draco. After a few moments, I had to pull away.
“What was that for?” I demanded.
“Your right, your lips are ice cold,” he commented casually, smirking.
Before I could complain, he claimed my lips once more. I got lost in the kiss, and before I knew it I felt my mouth begin to open to accept a deeper kiss. As soon as I came back to reality, inhaling his scent, I pulled away and pushed Draco back.
“Quit it!” I snapped. “I was going to say thank you for the beautiful gift, but now...” I sighed. Looking back up, I asked, “What’s with you?”
“You’re beautiful...”
“I’m dangerous,” I growled.
“Associating with vampires that I already know?” he asked me, stepping closer. I was taken aback by this.
“You ‘know’?” I repeated, unmoving.
“Your precious Cody? Yeah, I know of him. He joined the Dark Lord many years ago, just shortly after he had a strong hold, nearly 20, 30 years ago? I’ve met him; witness there, naturally.”
“He’s...” I stopped myself; I was actually about to defend him! What’s gotten into me?
“Not that bad? Dee, he’s a vampire working for the Dark Lord, you’re a Gryffindor.” He slowly started to pull me towards him once more, but I yanked out of his hold.
“My parents were Slytherins,” I reminded him.
“I’m aware,” he responded, shrugging. “They told everyone what you were doing in Gryffindor. Ingenious, really.”
“I’m not spying on my friends,” I snarled. Merlin, he smelled great.
Draco just smiled and nodded, obviously belittling me. I glared.
“You expect me to be all over you while you’re insulting me?”
He was now the one taken aback; apparently he didn’t think of what he said or did as insulting.
“You know what? Just forget it...” I started to walk away, but I was tugged back. I only stopped because I felt I should.
“No, look, I’m...” he struggled for words and I turned around to face Draco. He then looked at me and said, “I’m sorry, but... you’re so different. Something behind your beauty...”
“I’ve heard that before,” I cut in flatly.
“It’s true,” he whispered.
He didn’t know how true it was.
“I just... I don’t want to destroy what we already have.”
Draco suddenly pulled me into a hug. I fought myself to remain in control. I felt his warm mouth on my ear, breathing as he spoke, “Are you sure you don’t want more?”
“I can’t,” I whispered.
He pulled away slightly and looked at me.
“Why?”
I looked back at him, trying not to cry. I really had grown close to him, despite how annoying he could be. He was kind in his own, weird ways, but he deserved better than me.
“You deserve better than me,” I finally spoke softly.
“There is no better than you,” he told me, putting his hand to my icy cheek. Tingles went down my cheek and through the rest of my body at his hand’s warmth, at the way he softly caressed my cheek with his thumb.
“There are... so many more. Believe me, you might think I’m... the best there is, but believe me, I’m not,” I responded after a few moments, struggling with my words. “And I’m sorry. For your safety as well as benefit, we should just be friends or nothing at all. Thank you for the gift.”
I broke away from his hold and walked away, wiping away a stray tear. Was it possible to be torn between two destinies?
