Chapter 26
Hermione had left the stands a few minutes after Draco, trying to reach Cara. She saw Draco pick her up and take her towards the castle, but couldn't keep up. She ran into several Quiddich players, and one stopped her.
"Say lady, when do you think we can visit Cara?"
"I don't know, I'm trying to reach her, don't bother me now..."
Hermione pushed through the crowds. She pushed past the crowds and came to the castle steps. She stopped. She heard voices, and a spell incantation.
"...Father..." Hermione gasped at the sound of Draco's voice, and pulled out her wand. She slowly went up the steps, and pulled away as two Death Eaters came by. She recognized them as Snape...and her father-in-law! They were arguing and floating a body in front of them. Hermione heard snatches of her conversation.
"...in broad daylight, what were you thinking?"
"Shut up Malfoy...everyone was watching the game...now transfigure him, so he's less noticable!"
Lucius muttered, and Hermione's Draco was turned into a cane, which Lucius took and used. The pair reached the edge of the Wood, and disapparated.
Hermione cried out, and ran to the spot where they were. She cried softly, letting the tears fall where Draco had been. Her Draco...her love, her only reason...Cara! Hermione gasped, and headed towards the castle. Cara! What about her? If the Death Eaters took her husband, what better prey than the one who was to defeat them? Why not Cara?
Hermione ran up the steps to the Hospital Wing. She burst through the door to see her daughter lying on the bed, Madam Pomfrey by her side. Hermione screamed with relief when she saw her. Madam Pomfrey frowned.
"Mrs. Malfoy, really!" Hermione pushed past her, and took Cara's hand.
"Honey...thank God you're safe!" Cara looked at her, puzzled.
"Mom...it's just a sprained wrist...I'll be fine-"
"No Cara, you don't understand...your father's...been kidnapped. By your grandfather and an old professor of mine. They're old Death Eaters....and-"
"Daddy? Gone?" Cara's eyes widened. She started to tremble, then a look appeared. One that Hermione had never seen before. It was a hard look...full of hatred that Hermione became afraid of. For the first time, she was afraid of her daughter.
"Mom...where did they go?"
"I don't know honey...but rest awhile Cara. You can't go anywhere injured like this..."
Cara glared at her mother, and she began to float in the air. Her hair flew wildly about her face, and her eyes emitted a bright light. Hermione raised her hand up, her mouth agap. Cara's wounds disappeared, and Cara began to speak.
"They took him to the cave where Snuffles lived...we must go there."
Cara fell huddled to the ground. Hermione ran to her, but was burned when she touched her. Cara got up from the ground, the light gone, the strong voice forgotten. Cara looked around.
"Mom...are you ready?"
Hermione just gaped at her daughter. The glow stretched from Cara to Hermione, and Hermione was filled with a stong feeling of wanting. Yes, she was ready. For whatever Cara and herself would face.
OK people, I'm sorry it can't be longer...
