P.S: Welcome secretlover Chapter 6
Father’s Best Man
Dezi went to sleep angry again. Her ‘father’, Harry, and ‘mother’, Ginny, just sent her a letter that didn’t exactly lighten her spirits. After hearing from them, her old anger for the two came back, same reason. They had reminded her (without realizing), of the fact she indeed didn’t have her real parents around, that she was an orphan under their care. Dezi was standing in the kitchen of Grimmauld Place. It looked worse, more grimy and dusty. She saw Harry at the table, eating what looked like lunch. The kitchen door opened, and she saw her father Draco come up to the kitchen table. He sat across from Harry.
“Potter,” he said flatly. Harry looked up at him.
“Malfoy,” Harry responded with a similar flat tone.
“I need your help,” Draco responded. Dezi looked at Harry and saw a look of genuine surprise on his face, but it got covered by a chuckle. Draco glared.
“What would a Malfoy need help with?”
“Apparently a wedding. I need to ask you about it.”
Dezi’s mind clicked when he said wedding. This was a few months before Draco and Hermione had their wedding, the day that never followed through as planned. A silence filled the room.
“Can you be my best man...?”
Dezi’s mouth dropped. How could he go to someone like Harry for something as important? Even if it didn’t work out in the end... Dezi say Harry’s eyes widen.
“I’m sorry, what’d you say?” Harry asked with a playful smile. Draco ground his teeth and looked down. His gaze went back up to Harry.
“Can you be my best man?” Draco repeated, practically snapping.
“Why do you want me to be your best man?” Harry asked after a moment.
As you might’ve noticed, I don’t exactly have any true friends,” Draco practically snapped. “And I thought since you were bugging me about ‘not paying you back for everything’, this might help ‘pay back’ a bit.”
Dezi remembered when she would stand outside her mom’s door in Grimmauld Place, listening to her complain about how Draco just walked back into her life, expecting everything to be the same, and after they had a few rows how Harry was right and Draco did just mooch off of Harry without paying him back in any way.
Harry chuckled and shook his head.
“You really desperate enough to ask me?”
“Basically,” Draco responded with a smirk.
“Fine, but just don’t expect me to take up this type of favour all the time,” Harry responded, grinning mockingly.
Draco nodded curtly. He got up and left the room. As he opened the door to the kitchen, the light from the other side flooded into Dezi’s eyes...
“It’s noon already!” the matron exclaimed, causing Dezi to jump. Dezi saw her face above a few feet. “Drink this,” she said, handing a potion to her.
Sighting, Dezi sat up and gulped it down quickly. This time it was a strong sour taste. Gagging and crunching her face tightly, she forced it down.
“When you said a few days...”
“Tomorrow,” the matron said.
“But classes don’t get out for another three hours and I have nothing to do.”
“You can sleep...”
Before Dezi knew it, she dropped back to her pillow, deep asleep. There was something in the potions she kept on getting, and she knew it.
