"Morning.. again." she giggled knowing they all said it to each other while getting ready for the day.
When the professor started class Nat grabbed her quill and parchment to take notes. The sheets were lifted and a painting had been revealed. She had no clue who painted it or what it was called. Art was not her thing. She could barely draw stick figures so she had no clue what any of this was called.
So instead of raising her hand she stayed silent. Nat looked around to see if anyone in the room knew the answer. Quote:

She definitely didn't know the name or the artist, so her hand remained down, ready to take notes instead. Quote:

He KNEW muggle things and even had a bit of an acute fascination with how muggle and magical influenced each other - primarily when ht came to creatures but STILL.
So Derf had arrived early and eagerly to class and was practically bouncing in his seat waiting to see what would be discussed today. Was his Slytherin buddy here? Slate SHOULD be. He would probably feel less like a grindylow out of water if he were in this class...
Oh they were starting!
Derf's hand immediately shot up before the professor had even finished her question because he was just THAT confident...only to feel the same eagerness sucked riiiiiight out of him when all was revealed. Cue a crestfallen Hufflepuff because he knew absolutely nothing.
NOTHING!
When it was his turn to speak, the Hufflepuff merely gaped at the professor and shook his head rapidly back and forth. He did not know who this Pizza-O person was that his classmates kept bringing up...but if it was this person who had painted that...it looked nothing like pizza...and was kind of scary looking.
Like...he was glad it was not a magical portrait because that moving about would likely give him nightmares. Quote:

"Nice to meet you, Carlton," she said to the younger boy with a nod and a soft polite smile. And aww the cute little snuggly hug her friend gave her housemate. So maybe things weren't all bad.
And then class was beginning and the Ravenclaw had to draw her attention from her seat mates to the professor as she began. The big reveal coming to ahead and revealing...an awkward painting. Weird. She might not be the best artist, but her work didn't tend to come out all abstract like what they were being shown.
Who did it...and it what it was called?
That was the questions raised but Cassie had absolutely no clue. Not a clue at all. So here's for staying quiet as the other students around her opted to answer. Picasso? The name was vaguely familiar as a great artist but the work, not one she could definitely link to him or name.
Kay saw all of her silent kiddos as usual. She also saw a few of the expressions on their faces as the painting was revealed or their disappointment if they had nothing to share. However, she knew they were more likely to have an answer for the next question. SPOILER!!: Artist’s Name Quote:

She quickly raised her hand and waited to be called on. Once she was, she replied, "I believe it is a Picasso. Just looking at it and with the way the lines are and the very abstract figure, it's very much Picasso-esque." She put her hand back down, and tried very hard to keep her eyes open. Quote:

Its a painting. And yeah he recognized it "Uh.... its a Picasso painting. I dunno what its called. Its one of those... weird ones." And from what he can recall of Picasso's work everything was pretty weird "I think he's kinda crazy or needs new glasses or something? Because a lot of his work looks like that." Quote:

She was staring at it, when the first question of the day was asked.
Janelle wasn't sure of the painting's name, but she knew who the artist was. She'd recognize that style anywhere. The Ravenclaw raised her hand to chime in on the discussion. "That painting is by Pablo Picasso", she said. So we're they studying muggle artists today? Quote:

Whatever the cause, she was always there.
The lesson started off pretty quiet as usual, but when the painting was revealed she rose her eyebrows in surprise. This seemed a little different from the kind of thing they usually learned. She wasn't really into art, but naturally they'd studied it at her primary school; this was pretty distinctive and probably one of the two painters she could name, the other being Van Gogh. She raised her hand, calling out:
"It's by Picasso, Professor."
She had no idea what the painting's title was or how some people were deducing that the woman was supposed to be sad. To be honest, it was remarkable anyone could tell it was a woman at all. Muggle art was stupid; at least when wizards painted, it actually looked like a person, never mind that it could talk as well. Quote:

Olly was feeling 100% more confident about this lesson. Even though he was now firmly sitting in his seat again he had a big grin on his face as he beheld the painting.
His hand shot into the air as soon as the question was asked. He wasn't an expert on all artists by any means. But he had read several books on art and this was one artist he was fairly familiar with. He had seen a picture of this painting before, though he couldn't remember the exact name. "That's a painting by Picasso, professor. It's an oil painting, and he uses the art style of cubism, which is actually a style he has been credited with helping to create." Quote:

Maybe good old Pablo hadn't actually painted all those paintings and someone had copied his style.
WELL, she hoped that was what his lesson was about. Quote:

"It's just that I've seen that painting before. Well, not the real painting of course, but a picture of it. It is called the Weeping Woman and was painted by Pablo Picasso sometime in the 20th century." "She is based on a lady he dated, but I can't remember her name. His style was very surreal, and was considered revolutionary for the time it was made in." “Excellent!’’ Kay was quite delighted that many of her students were familiar with Picasso. Even if they had been hazarding a guess, this meant they had at least heard of the man. “You all are correct. More information on Mr Picasso will be given shortly.” It was great to see that Oliver's mood had changed. Perhaps he was into artsy stuff? SPOILER!!: Painting’s Name! Quote:

"Muggle" wasn't new to Liv. She had muggle grandparents.
Luckily.
Yep, Olivia felt lucky to have muggles in her family.
As for this painting... Well, she didn't know. Her mother was an avid collector of art, but none of her pieces were as...abstract as this one was. Er... It was certainly interesting looking. Given that it was a piece of art, she expected Rooney to know details as to its origin... Or... Well, Rooney looked terribly out of sorts today, with his sleep mask shoved up into his messy hair. In fact, the blonde had never seen him so disheveled. Not in a lesson. Perhaps he needed a bit of her sleeping potion. "Looking at it.... It makes me feel sad." Well, more sad, considering her natural depression lately. "Even though, it's vibrant and exciting in color, it still seems to express a deep sense of melancholy." Just the feels she personally got from the painting. This might not've been the case for everyone.. Quote:

Because COZY.
When class started Carlton sat up a bit straighter in his seat to watch what professor Stewart was uncovering. He sat on the edge of his seat in suspense before the professor removed the sheet and his shoulders slumped. He didn't know anything about paintings or artists. He preferred the moving portraits at Hogwarts over the art he'd grown up with.
Carlton tilted his head watching the painting with great disbelief. Was it really a famous painting? He couldn't understand why. It didn't make him feel happy or good at all.
Apparently Liv felt the same way. Mama. Heart eyes.
He looked over at Char and nodded his head in agreement. He raised his hand to add his opinion on the matter. "I don't like it either, professor. She looks sad and that makes me sad. Also, why is does she have that nose?" Wait, where was the nose? Did she even have one? Carlton leaned forward, squinting at it. The more he stared at the painting the less sense it made. "Did she really look like that, professor? That's a lot of edges on a face." He found it very hard to believe that someone had actually walked around in the world looking like that.
Also, he had no clue what the name of the painting or the artist was. But a good portion of the class seemed to have the same guess. Carlton was VERY suspicious of the whole thing.
Kay called on Olivia expecting an answer to her questions but was not at all disappointed. It was the Lion simply stating her opinion. “I would agree, Ms Phillips. The use of the bright colour is certainly attention- grabbing. My interpretation of this would be that even though everything may seem alright with someone on the surface, they may have something bothering them that they refuse to share with anyone.’’ It was a deep painting in her opinion. “It’s simply the way artist envisioned her, Mr Lewis. I doubt she has so many edges on her face.” She winked. SPOILER!!: Char! <3 Quote:

Kay nodded. When she had first seen the painting years ago, she had been quite put off by the woman and was not surprised to find someone else felt the same. “I reckon it may be the woman is painted that makes you feel that way,’’ she suggested. SPOILER!!: Henry! <3 Quote:

But he wasn't really into art at all, though it seemed like a lot of his classmates knew who the artist was.
The name Picasso sounded at least familiar to Henry, but that's as far as the recognition went. He wasn't so sure he could say he liked it either, though it didn't really make him feel any sort of way. He also wondered why there were so many angles and the features seemed a little off. "Was Picasso a child when he painted this?" Henry asked after raising his hand. As in maybe a child prodigy painter since he thought sometimes very young children had distorted views of reality in their artwork. Not that he could draw or paint very realistically and maybe his artwork would come out that way. Just curious though. Ohh, maybe they would actually be learning about people who became famous as children rather than about art today.
Enough people had answered who the artist was, and he was pretty sure he heard someone say the title, which he had already forgotten, so he felt comfortable asking questions rather than answering or staying silent. He tilted his head and squinted at the painting some more. "Also, why is that part in the middle black and white, and the rest of it in bright colors?" Maybe there was a reason for that?
“ I assure you he was quite an adult when he did this painting, Mr Whittebrook.’’ Kay paused to look around at the class then back at Henry. “It is said that the Weeping Woman’s tears were corrosive so when her tears rolled down her cheeks, they unfortunately damaged her face.’’ SPOILER!!: Other answers! Skylar stared. And stared.
People were suggestion Picasso. But she decided to state a different artist's name, one that she knew to have abstract and colorful artwork, similar to the one on display in front them. "Eduard Fleminsky. His artwork is very abstract and colorful looking as this one is." Yup. That was her answer. “I’m sorry, Ms Diggory. That unfortunately is not the artist we are focusing on today. A great try though.’’ Kay smiled kindly. Quote:

That weird looking style was very recognizable!
He raised his hand excitedly. "That's by some guy named Mozart, Professor!" he said with a CONFIDENT grin. Because that was TOTALLY the right answer. “I think you’re referring to Mozart the composer, Mr Brentwood, but that’s incorrect.’’ She gave him a kind smile too. There was no shame in being wrong.

Jingle, jingle, jingle! Santa!Gaston jiggled his little Christmas bell as he approached his next stop - the Muggle Studies classroom. "HO, HO, HO!"his voice rang out as he walked into the room. "Santa's brought gifts for all the good children!"
He set the big red sack he carried on his back down gently and reached inside to pull out a candy cane. "Here's a gift for..." He paused to read the card. "Miss Natalia Franks-Mundie!" He handed the candy cane to the Head Girl. the attached card read:
He reached back into the bag and produced another candy cane. "And here's one for Mr. Henry Whittebrook!" He gave the Hufflepuff boy a candy cane with the message:
Out came another candy cane, and Santa!Gaston glanced at the card. "And another one for Mr. Whittebrook!" Wow, somebody was certainly popular! He handed the boy another candy cane. This one read:
Santa!Gaston reached into the sack for yet another candy cane. "And here's one for Mr. Dalton Fletcher!" He handed the Slytherin a candy cane bearing the following message:
But Santa!Gaston still wasn't done! "And here's a gift for..." he began, reaching onto the bag for one last candy cane, but to his surprise, this one bore his own name! He turned the card over and read:
It was such a corny little poem, but he loved it anyway! The words made his heart melt, but he couldn't get emotional in front of the students right now. That would be a dead giveaway of who was in the Santa suit! He cleared his throat a little loudly. "Never mind, it seems this person isn't here," he said, tucking the candy cane into his pocket close to his heart. "I'll go deliver this one now." He picked up his big red santa sack and slung it over his shoulder as he turned toward the door. "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good day!" he called back as he left.
Hello there! This was a Santa invasion! Kay of course knew this was really Gaston dressed up as Santa. She stifled a laugh because she found his fake voice quite funny. She stood back patiently and waited until he had finished delivering the little surprises. “Thank you, Santa!’’ she said with a twinkle in her eye as he left. What a sport Gaston was for doing this for the kiddos. Now it was time to carry on the lesson once more. “As Ms Valentine mentioned, the woman seen here was inspired by Picasso’s real life lover, Dora Marr. It is said the painting represents just how much pain can be expressed on one’s face. The flower in her head is interpreted as something positive- hope. Hope even after all the pain that everything gets better. ''Since the focus of today’s lesson is more on art and Mr Picasso, I have some information on him. If you could please make notes of these important points before we move on.’’ Kay grabbed her marker then made her way to the whiteboard. “Mr Picasso’s most common name is Pablo Ruiz y Picasso, his real name consists of twenty three names.’’ Which was too long for Kay to remember and was not necessary for the students. “In addition to being painter from Spain, he was also sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, stage designer, poet and playwright.’’ She made these notes on the board as she spoke. “The first painting he was able to complete is called Le picador which depicts a man riding a horse in a bullfight. This was completed when he was just nine years old.’’ Did the students find that interesting enough? Kay certainly did. Unfortunately she had fallen in love with art in her mid teens. “He is buried in the grounds of a château that he bought in 1958 in the village of Vauvenargues which is located to the south of France. According to the Guiness Book of World Records, which is a reference book in which countless records achieved including those of humans are kept, Picasso created an approximation of 13,500 paintings, 100,000 prints, 34,000 book illustrations and 300 sculpture.’’
The Professor capped her marker then drew her full attention back to the class. “I’ve picked some of the most interesting facts to share with you but I would like to ask you lot if you know any fact of Mr Picasso’s that you would like to share. If not, I would like to tell me what you like or don't like about art. Do you like painting over sculpting or vice versa? Has any of you considered being an artist?’’ Really, this was the chance for art lovers- and the ones who are not fans of art- to share their opinions. OOC: HI Thank you for all the wonderful replies! The next post will come in 24 hours. As Kay asks, just have your charries give any facts they know of Pablo and or have them talk of their love or dislike for art.
