It wasn’t long before the first student arrived. “Good morning, Miss Holmes,” Professor Marchand greeted her, returning her smile. He was a little taken aback by her question though. Perhaps he should’ve made it clearer that the benches were meant for the students. “Oh yes, of course! Please have a seat.” Quote:

"Goooooooooooood MORNING, professor Marchand!" It was a good morning. And he was almost the first one there, apart from an older student from his own house. Hi older student.
He marched straight up to the refreshments to see what was available to them today and bounced a little when he saw the hot cocoa. His favorite in the whole world. He'd even planned to go see professor Salvatore and ask her to have it in the bakery but he didn't need the bakery if he went to Charms. "OH! OH! OH!" Exciting. He glanced at professor Marchand. "Can I have some? I want some." He beamed as he started to take some of the tasty treats. Because WHYYY would it be standing there if he couldn't have some? That was torture and he liked professor Marchand, he didn't do that stuff. And here came another Slytherin, this one much younger than the first. And he was bouncing; that made the professor smile. “And a good morning to you too, Mr. Lewis!” he said. He had to stifle a laugh at the boy’s reaction to the treats. “You certainly may; please help yourself.” Quote:

A kidnapped former Auror? So curious.... Then one of the Gryffindor prefects arrived. Gaston was glad to see him; he was beginning to wonder if the other three houses would be joining this lesson. Not that he would’ve minded teaching just the Slytherins, of course. “Hello, Mr. Salander,” he returned the greeting. His eyes followed the boy to the trunk. Well, he supposed it was only a matter of time before someone asked what was inside. “You’ll find out soon enough.” He may or may not have given the prefect a knowing smile. Quote:

Etta greeted the professor politely before she made her way over to the drinks table. Hot cocoa! YUM. Could they have some? Yes? Next to arrive was a Hufflepuff girl – and a polite one at that! “Hello, Miss Kramer,” the charms professor replied, inclining his head toward her. Quote:

Taking a cup of hot cocoa into her hands she hugged the warm beverage to her face as she breathed in the scent of chocolate and the steam coming from the cup, stepping out of the way she turned back to the trunk and began walking around it trying to figure this out. Here was another Gryffindor. “Good morning, Miss Bailey,” Gaston greeted her. He couldn’t help but notice the way she was looking at the benches and trunk. All would be explained in time! Quote:

She didn't want to show the class what her bogart was. No one needed to see that.
Pushing it out of her mind she gave the professor an small smile, "Good day Professor." Turning from him Nat made her way towards a seat on the left. She gave the other students a smile and a wave before sitting down and taking out her things. Ah, here came the Head Girl! The charms professor gave her a warm smile as she passed him. “And a very good day to you, Miss Franks-Mundie!” Quote:

She made a mental note to try and do that. But for now she needed to get to the lesson on time.
She nearly sighed in relief when she felt the warmth of the classroom. That was good at least she wasn't going to freeze in the classroom. And refreshment. Ooh. She was going to go there once the professor had said it was okay, since she heard a few more students asking. "Hello Professor" She murmured with a smile, and instead headed to sit on the right bench. This was new, and she was interesting to see what was going to happen in today's class. “Hello, Miss Paton,” Professor Marchand greeted the next arrival. He half-expected the girl to make a beeline for the refreshments and was slightly surprised when she didn’t. “Please, help yourself to some refreshments,” he offered, gesturing toward the table at the back of the room. Also, how come there weren't desks? Zoryn didn't like that. 'Cause she had a usual spot but now she had to find an all new usual spot. And honestly, that was a lot of pressure. Where were her friiiiiiiiiiends? Now here was a cheery one! Gaston eagerly returned the young Gryffindor girl’s smile; this was exactly the kind of attitude he liked to see in his students. “Hello, Miss Spinnet,” he said. It wasn’t often that students wanted to high-five him (come to think of it, he couldn’t recall that ever happening to him before!) but that didn’t stop him from high-fiving her back. Hey the desks were gone!
Ahh well.. he grabbed some hot Cocoa and then headed over to sit on the left bench.. The charms professor was a little taken aback when Mr. Kennedy thanked him for the heating charm but smiled nonetheless. Now here was a polite young man! “Good morning, Mr. Kennedy; you’re quite welcome,” he replied. “I am quite well, thank you for asking. And you?” Quote:

"Good day Professor Marchand," she greeted cheerfully, as she went to sit down next to Leon. "Hey Leon," she said in quitter words, removing her bag of books and placing them by the bench. Another Ravenclaw and another student eyeing the trunk – not that Gaston minded that at all. In fact, he was impressed by his students’ curiousity. He just hoped they wouldn’t be disappointed when they found out what was actually in there. “Good day to you too, Miss Valentine,” he said with a small smile. Quote:

Yeey! Exactly like she had hoped! “Hellooooo” professor, sang the second year, completely happy with the temperature and she walked over toward the table with the snacks to take something and THAT was also something what made her day, food during a lesson! Perfect! The professor had to stifle a laugh at the way Miss Griffel practically sang hello to him. The thought briefly crossed his mind to sing a greeting back to her, but he quickly decided against that. The students didn’t need to hear his terrible singing! Her slight joy remained as she stepped into the classroom, lowering her spell and letting the wonderful heat of the class wash over her. Mason dipped her head slightly towards their professor, who was watching as they entered the classroom. "Professor Marchand."
Dark eyes dancing over the interior of the classroom, Mason looked each of the peasants over, smiling slightly to the people she knew. Scrunching her nose at the hot cocoa and sweets they all seemed to be devouring, Mason bypassed the trunk in the middle without a second glance, making her way towards Kitty and the hot guy beside her. She dropped her bag unceremoniously on the ground beside their bench, smiling sweetly to them both as she took her seat beside the aforementioned hot guy. "Kitty," she said in to greeting to the goth, "I don't believe that I know you're friend here." She said, cocking her head to the side and sticking out her hand towards the guy. "I'm Mason." He couldn’t’ help but notice that this particular student didn’t seem at all interested in the refreshments or the trunk in the middle of the room. Oh well, to each their own… Quote:

The boy proceeded to stuffing his face with fudge and hot chocolate. Omnomnomnom! And here was Mr. Merriwether. “Hello, Mr. Merriwether,” Gaston greeted the Gryffindor boy, returning his wave with a small one of his own. His eyes followed him to the refreshment table, and he smiled a little. Somehow he had a feeling that would be the boy’s first stop. Quote:

Charms was the best.
Noelle took a seat beside Matt and offered him a wave of fudge before sipping her hot cocoa. The other Gryffindor prefect arrived shortly after Mr. Merriwether. Gaston immediately noticed how bundled up the girl was and wondered if his heating charm needed strengthening. “Good morning, Miss Summers,” he said with a slight smile. “Are you quite warm enough?” Quote:

Earphones still blaring music, Hunt snorted as he saw the cocoa and candy canes, snatching one of the canes as he bypassed them on his way to the back of the classroom. Away from anyone else. So far, he hated everyone here. Everyone except the fiery Mason Stevens, who was currently sitting with a goth and some overly muscled dude, batting her eyes prettily at him. He inclined his head towards her in greeting, smiling slightly as he leaned back onto the bench and stuck the candy cane into his mouth, watching the classroom as the students started filing in. “Hello, Mr. Keir,” Professor Marchand greeted the Slytherin boy who just arrived, but he walked right past him without saying a word. And were those earphones? The professor was slightly offended but chose not to say anything about it. Maybe the kid was just having an off day… happens to everyone once in a while. Quote:

Grabbing a mug, Daisy made her way to the right bench to sit by Hattie, eyeing the chest in the middle of the room. "You don't think there's a monster in there, do you?" She whispered to the Hufflepuff girl, raising her mug to toast with her and noticing her friend had none.

He started to take a seat on a bench, but then he heard some other kid ask for permission to sit down. He paused, waiting to hear the answer. He didn't even think to ask for permission, but somebody had, so he'd wait. In walked another Slytherin. The professor was beginning to wonder if the students had planned to arrive two from each house at a time; he was definitely seeing a pattern here! “Good morning, Mr. Westwood,” he said with a smile. Olly's day was getting better and better. He grinned more broadly when his gaze landed on the snacks at the back of the classroom. Hot chocolate and fudge. Olly poured himself a mug and grabbed a piece of the fudge before looking for a spot to sit. The fact that there were no desks in the room barely phased him. Though it was a little unusual for charms class, he had walked into many different classrooms without desks so it wasn't completely out of the ordinary. You could always count on Professor Marchand to have some goodies.
Janelle picked up some fudge and cocoa and found a seat on one of the benches. As she sipped her cocoa, she observed the trunk that was the centerpiece of the room. Ahhhh, something else to pique her curiosity. Janelle had no choice, but to be patient and wait for its contents to be revealed. In the meantime, she'd just enjoy her snacks. Did she plan to spend the majority of the class glaring at the people who offended her? You betcha. Was it just him or did something seem a little off about Miss Umbridge today? Gaston was pretty good at picking up on people’s emotions. The thought crossed his mind to ask the girl if something was bothering her but decided against it. Well then.
Making a beeline over there, Derf grabbed himself a cup AND a candy cane that he immediately began swirling inside the hot liquid to make himself some peppermint hot cocoa. "Fanks, professor!" he chirped, raising his cup like he saw dad do all the time at important things to show his gratitude. Erm...something in return? Derf felt BAD ... ish ... that the professor was always providing all these snacks and things sooooooooooo into his trouser pocket - the one without Scamander - the Hufflepuff reached in for a chocolate frog which he immediately offered to the Charms professor. OH THERE WAS DORA! He offered the older girl a BIIIIIIIIIIG grin and a wave. Yes. He would go sit by her because she was GOOD at charms and had seen so first hand. Oh nooooo!
Without thinking, Dora reached out and smacked Derf's hand. The one with the cocoa in it. "Never accept food or drinks at Hogwarts unless it's from the Great Hall or directly from an elf! " Why had no one told the precious Hufflepuff these things?! The Gryffindor watched him closely for any signs of Potion effects or spell work.
Merlin! The charms professor was watching the door waiting for more students to arrive when out of the corner of his eye, he saw Miss Umbridge smack Mr. Ashbury-Hawthorne’s hand. He sighed exasperatedly, wondering what he could’ve done to make her think he’d actually poison his own students. He could understand having an off day, but this was crossing the line. “Miss Umbridge, that was entirely uncalled for,” he said, crossing the room to the girl, “but since I believe your heart was in the right place, I won’t dock points this time.”
He shot her a warning look, then turned to Mr. Ashbury-Hawthorne. “I promise there’s nothing wrong with the cocoa,” he assured the boy. And just to prove his point, he poured himself a cup and took a long swig from it. See, nothing bad happened to him. Quote:

Professor Whatsisface for a cheery wave as Abey entered the classroom and made a beeline for the refreshments. Hot cocoa was definitely in order; Abey was NOT used to these Northern winters and was absolutely chilled to the bone. He had to warm up, pronto, so that he could be in tip top shape for Charms class.
Cocoa was quickly sorted out, and so off Abey went, looking for the best seat he could find along the benches. But not before passing ACCIDENTALLY VERY CLOSE to the trunk in the middle of the room, so that he could have a nose about in his way past, and maybe nudge it a little as he did. Just looking. Just curious. Just checking actually. Gaston beamed at Mr. Botros as he came in. The boy seemed to be in much better spirits than he’d been at the feast, which the professor was very glad to see. “Hello, Mr. Botros,” he said, returning his student’s wave, and he watched as the boy helped himself to some cocoa. Walking into the classroom, the first thing she saw was the lack of desks. Interesting, but hardly something to comment on. It just made her wonder if they were going to be watching a show or something. It was entirely possible, given the mysterious trunk. However, she merely gave the professor a smile. “Good morning Professor Marchand,” she said, walking over to help herself to a cup of cocoa before making her way to the left and a seat near Nat. Hopefully they'd be learning something fun today. She was ready for it! It was almost time for class to start when Miss Kettleburn came in. Gaston gave the girl a friendly smile and waved back at her. “Hello, Miss Kettleburn; you’re just in time.”
Professor Marchand pointed his wand at the door, making it close and lock tightly behind Miss Kettleburn. He took his place at the front of the classroom and cleared his throat loudly, waiting a few moments for quiet before he began. “Good morning, class,” he said. “Before we get into today’s lesson, is everyone warm enough? I’d be glad to cast another heating charm if necessary.” Because he definitely didn’t want the students casting their own spells to warm up; hopefully they all remembered his no fire rule.
