Hogwarts RPG Name: Madison Valentine Fifth Year x12 x9
| ♥s her SS family l Wifey is MINE | Naughty Niffler l Whittysaur l #awkwardturtle<# "Thank you for the apology Ms Kettleborn, that is totally understandable." Rosalyn sent the girl a smile. She really hated being THAT Professor, she just felt that they needed to treat each other with respect and courtesy. The snort from Mr Asakura did not go unnoticed but she had seen him be disrespectful in the past. Sadly.
Moving on! SPOILER!!: Perpetua Fancourt Quote:

Her eyes scanned the room for her bestie.
The class was getting started and she never got up to get a chocolate frog, sad. Opening her notebook and pulling out her quill she listened as the professor talked about the Holidays and the content they would be doing. Her eyes scanning the pictures and she flipped open her book. Everyone seemed to be going for the easier ones, but she knew she had heard about the first picture or seen it during her studying last term for OWLs.
Raising her hand she waited her turn, "Professor the first one is Perpetua Fancourt. She is credited for inventing the lunascope." Yes she was reading that from her book and yes she didn't know if they were suppose to know right off hand the fact that they were to tell, but at least she gave an answer. Quote:

Selective attention span okay? She truly hadn't meant it, and at least she hadn't taken chocolate without saying hi, right?
But now it was time to answer a question. Oh she knew BOTT because family. And Perpetua Fancourt because astronomy was a bit of a thing in her family.
She stuck her hand up. "Perpetua Fancourt created a device that you can use instead of moon charts for when you are studying lunar phases and stuff!" Quote:

A few people had already mentioned that Perpetua Fancourt invented the lunascope.. But they hadn't mentioned one thing.. Her hand went into the air as she stated her fact. " Perpetua Fancourt went to Hogwarts in the early 1900's and she was sorted into Ravenclaw. " She said with a smile. Quote:

Her hand shot into the air. "Perpetua Fancourt," she added. "She's famous for many things, but I'm impressed by her style. Did you know she dyed her skin blue? Not sure why, other than she had a unique fashion style." "Very good! she told the class as answers began coming in. They were off to a great start. It was good to see that her students knew about some of the famous inventors from history. Smiling, she began writing on the board. It was a good idea for them to start taking notes as this information might prove to be important in the future.
As she wrote, she spoke, emphasizing on what had already been mentioned and adding some information of her own. "Perpetua Fancourt is known for inventing the lunascope, which as Ms Kettleborn mentioned is used to show the phases of the moon. This she did in response to the difficulty in reading moon charts." "She was born in the British Isles in the year 1900, and as Ms Snow mentioned, attended Hogwarts in the early 1900s - 1911 to be exact - and was sorted into Ravenclaw. After graduating from school, she went on to become a well known astronomer. She died in the year 1991 at the age of 91 and that was when she was placed on a Chocolate Frog card. For her achievement in inventing the lunascope. And yes, Ms Valentine is right in saying that her skin WAS dyed blue at some point." Definitely a unique decision. SPOILER!!: Glover Hipworth Quote:

Sigh.
Still, her attention went to the enlarged chocolate frog cards and knew some without needing to read the names written at the bottom. Particularly one that had come up quite often in her own healing studies, which was why her hand went up and she was able to speak with some confidence. "Glover Hipworth," she began, nodding her head towards the number 58 card of the gentleman about to sneeze. "Is the inventor of the Pepperup Potion, which we now use as a cure for the common cold."
Something that perhaps several of her classmates would seek of the Healer soon enough given how much the cold seemed to be effecting them.
Inventors though...clearly the theme of the day...which had Paige start to consider the nature of these inventions and what sort of link there may be between them all. One for transportation, one for confectionary consumption, one for health, and one for practicality...hmm... Quote:

Regardless, the lesson was beginning and the Ravenclaw focused her attention on that. Thank Merlin for the blessing of things not being too heavy. Cass liked reading and learning as much as the next eagle but somethings were just two intense at times. The addition of the pictures from chocolate frog cards certainly gave it a sweet treat feel, especially the one about Bertie Bott. But he had been talked on already as had two of the others so she picked the last. “Glover Hipworth invented the pepper-up potion…the cure for the common cold,” she offered after raising ger hand. She had certainly taken it enough times growing up to know about it. Quote:

She has seen the guy, Tak around but hadn't really spoken to him before. She was slightly curious as to why he had sit here and why his appearance look they way it did? The Hufflepuff was not the type ask such questions. It was rude.
Debating on whether or not she wanted to open that other chocolate frog or save it for later. That was her original plan, but it was like the chocoalte frog was calling to her. She looked down, when her stomach growled. EXCUSE me, you have already had a chocolate frog. Chill tummy. Kat looked up and seen Noelle. "Hey, Noelle."
The lesson was now underway and she prepared herself for the lesson. The third year couldn't help but to grin slightly. She didn't understand what was so hard to just say hello to the professor, people were so unfriendly and rude. Whatever. Anyway back to the lesson, Kat raised her hand "The one is Glover Hipworth. As Paige mentioned he invented the pepper up potions used for colds, ironically his chocolate frog card picture is of him sneezing." Maybe he needed to take some of his pepper up potion before hand. In Japan greetings were usually accepted as well. A hello, but a simple head bow did wonders. Tak didn't do those either though because he hadn't learnt that was the standard until much later, after he had already been scolded then too, and the Professors already saw him as disrespectful so it didn't matter.
He had been taught to sit down and shut up when he entered a room, it was best just not to have yourself be noticed. And yet all these Professors seemed to take it personally. Anyways- one fact about one of the people on the cards? "The second card- that guy is sneezing." And that was a fact.
Were they still wide awake and paying attention?
It was time for them to move on to the next figure that they were discussing. She did have to chuckle a little at Ms Delgado and Mr Asakura for mentioning that Glover Hipworth was sneezing in his picture. "Very true. Very likely that suffering from a cold himself helped in thinking of a cure for the ailment." And Thank Merlin for that because Joy certainly would be using a lot of the stuff during cold season. "As a few of you mentioned, he invented the Pepperup Potion, which we can all thank for helping us deal with the common cold. Unlike muggles who have to plow through them, we just need to go the the Healer for some." Wasn't that lovely? She went back to writing on the board as more information came out. "He was born in the year 1742, somewhere in the British Isles. Like Mr Jarvis mentioned, he attended Hogwarts in the early 1750s. Around 1753 to be exact, under Headmistress Derwent. After Hogwarts he began working in potioneering. It was in the late 1700s or early 1800s that he developed the Pepperup Potion." SPOILER!!: Ignatia Wildsmith Quote:

He can no longer feel the soles of his feet!
Now, onto the lesson.
Jace waited until all portraits were revealed, and realized right away that they all have something in common. This made the Ravenclaw sit up straighter, temporarily forgetting about the numbness he felt on his feet. Raising one pale hand in the cold air, Jace waited for his turn to answer. "That's Ignatia Wildsmith, professor. She invented the Floo Powder." As soon as he retracted his hand back, he already has his quill in his hand, listing down the other great minds in front of them, and jotting down what he knows about them. Quote:

He looked on his desk and frowned. He looked up and noticed that there was a bowl of chocolate frogs at the teacher's desk. Oh well. Jonas mentally shrugged. He would get one after class. Quote:

And he would leave it at that before turning to face the Professor.
Soon the castle would be overrun with quills. Sweet Merlin.
Shaking the thought from his head, the Fourth Year looked to the cards placed before them. One fact about any of them? He was happy enough hearing it wouldn't be a heavy class. "Wildsmith also went to Hogwarts in her younger years where she was sorted into Ravenclaw." He remembered when he used to religiously collect and read through those cards. Trading had been a real thing too but not so much anymore.
Now he preferred jelly slugs and simply didn't have the same interest. Quote:

He turned his attention from Ace and his cousin to focus on the professor. "Umm Ignatia Wildsmith was born in the British Isles...fancy that." So was his paternal grandmother. She invented weird teas though...not anything as important as the floo network.
Nodding at the answers as the continued coming in, Rosalyn moved on to writing down information about the third historical figure - Ignatia Wildsmith. "Excellent. As mentioned by Mr Reed, Ignatia Wildsmith is the person who invented Floo Powder. While not everyone uses this method of transportation, it is a huge benefit to many wizarding families and something that has had great impact on the wizarding world. All you need is some Floo Powder and a fireplace on the Floo Network and you can travel anywhere else on said network!" A lot faster than broomsticks.
The comment by Mr Bellaire-Moore got a chuckle out of her. "Yes, she WAS born in the British Isles which seems to be a theme today." Imagine that. She smiled. "And yes, she was sorted in Ravenclaw," she added to the two boys who said the same thing. "It's okay if more than one person says an answer, I just want to have an idea of what you all know," she said as encouragement even though it seemed that there were no problems occurring.
Moving on. "She was born in the year 1227 and started attending Hogwarts around the year 1238." Definitely the most historical of all the people they were currently discussing. "After graduating from Hogwarts, she is thought to have studied Herbology, and from there discovered the properties of the Floo plant. It is from this plant that Floo Powder was created." Went to show how amazing plants could be! Just look at Gillyweed as another example. "She died in 1320 when she was about 93 years old." SPOILER!!: Bertie Bott Quote:

... except for the Bott guy maybe. That was because her dad knew a few Botts. And her brother. Genny raised her arm, "Bertie Bott came up with the candy by accident. The Bott family remains wealthy and famous till this day, too." That was definitely an important fact. Quote:

She tilted her head to the side as she looked at the pictures. She knew a few of them. She had collected the chocolate frog cards when she was little, so she knew a few people from them. Ooh. She knew some facts, because she had looked at the back of her cards.
Putting her hand up, she smiled then spoke. "That one is Bertie Bott. He created the candy "Bertie Bott's beans by accident. He was actually trying to create tasty treats, but created these beans by accident. I love them, though some of the beans aren't so tasty" Quote:

He raised his hand and made a comment, "Bertie Bott was born in 1935." Seems like a lifetime ago. He wasn't even a thought yet.
On to the last figure, who was probably the most recognizable since he had invented a candy! One that she was a little scared to eat, but a great accomplishment nonetheless.
She wrote the information down on the board and students began sharing what they knew about the man. "Indeed, he DID invent the candy by accident," she said impressed that they knew that little tidbit. Chocolate Frog cards could be so informative! Also, this was something that they all should make note of because it just went to show how life could turn out sometimes; anyone could become an inventor. "As Mr Winchester said, he was born in the year 1935. In Great Britain. Not much is known about his time at Hogwarts, but it is possible that he was a classmate of Minerva McGonagall." Another well known person from history. "It IS known, however, that Bertie dedicated his life to confectionery. Because of this, he made a mistake that would make him VERY famous. One day in the 1950s or so, he had been trying to create candy from food when a dirty sock accidentally joined the mix." Hence some of the really gross flavours which - as Ms Paton said - were not very tasty. Indeed! SPOILER!!: Silent Ones Quote:

The muggle history lessons were easier if she needed to chose because she had grown up with it.
Not having a idea at all she kept her mouth shut and just listened to what the others were saying and when a name was mentioned more and was correct then she made a quick note to not forget about that person, or… She tried not to forget about that person… Quote:

And DAMMIT MERLIN another one. Who -- oh, t'was Charlotte. Owen stared at the Gryffindor for a few beats before looking at Henry. Let him do all the welcoming and talking. As for Noelle, she got a nod and small smile from him.
FINALLY FINALLY they were starting.
None of the too heavy historical content? Boo. Owen was ready to drown in boring history right about now. He was even planning to take a nap but noooo...Professor Newton was questioning the class about those four people on chocolate frog wrappers. Owen only knew one but from what he could glean from his classmates' answers, they all invented something that sounded significant.
Yep, every flavoured beans were significant. Quote:

The blonde was actually so miffed she didn't raise her hand to answer the question. She knew quite a bit about each figure, she was a book eater, but she didn't wanna say anything. Her bad mood had doubled.
It didn't escape her notice that a few students were not voicing any answers. That was totally fine since not everyone would know about these people, but Rosalyn flashed them an encouraging smile. There would be time for them to get more involved shortly with the next question, and if not that was also okay. SPOILER!!: General Answers Quote:

But oh Blaise got a customized quill apparently. One that over-embellishes. The Gryffindor Ace had to laugh at that "I bet it’s a most entertaining quill…." oh Bentley knows how to hook him up with one? "Well, I am more partial to custom-made stuff…" he nodded smirking. So yeah game on Bentley.
Oh lesson was starting. The boy leaned back into his seat as he looked up at the collectible cards Professor Newton has on display. Oh interesting. Bertie Bott he knew very well for several reasons, but the others were more obscure. Reading his text book he noticed something "Professor, all four of them are creative thinkers, because they all invented something, some out of need, some out of accident, but it seems theyre the kind of people who thinks outside the box." Quote:

... but then the class was officially starting, and she was tried her to best to buckle down and really focus on whatever the discussion would be able today. The kicker was, however, that her mind was just elsewhere at the moment. All her lessons would be difficult to follow...
Huh. Notes. She could... take notes.
So, that's just what the blonde was doing; a glitter pen clutched tightly within her grasp. But also... "Like Ace said, they were all innovative thinkers." Just because Liv was a loud mouth and it physically pained her at times not to speak. "I love that some of the ones you're presenting are also women." GIRL POWER!
And here were two answers that made her HAPPY! Very happy indeed. "Very good observation, Ms Phillips! Some of them ARE woman and it is very good to see that the historical playing field has many important figures from both genders." She had purposely chosen two men and two women to show that in her opinion gender didn't matter. "Mr Salander is also correct and has touched on the heart of the lesson today! As we can see, all of these figures invented something out of need. Even candy serves a sort of need - to a sweet tooth at least." Goodness knows that Honeydukes and Sugarplums both did VERY well. "Inventions can happen on purpose or by accident, but EVERYONE is capable of inventing something if they put their mind to it. All it takes is a little bit of thinking outside of the box!" Rosalyn believed that everyone was capable of that even if it was easier for some than it was for others.
And now for the next question: "Going off of this, what sort of considerations would a person need to think about in the process of inventing something? None of these people stumbled into their inventions by accident. Well, besides Bertie Bott, but he had been trying to create another candy at the time." So really her point still stood. OOC: Great job, everyone! I'll be moving along again in about 24 hours or so! |
