20. Knitting Charm

Rachel had been practicing the Knitting Charm since her second year and just before Halloween, she was pleased to say that she had mastered it. The excited third year wanted to make something for one of her friends. But what and for whom?

Almost immediately the answer came to her. “Mel! She could use a little cheering up.’’ Her poor Gryffindor best friend had been going through some boy issues lately. Rachel gathered the yarn and needles then headed out to the Treehouse. She found a nice, quiet corner there. The girl cast the spell. The needles began to flash in mid air. It was difficult to tell what was being knitted but gradually a sweater formed.

Sometime later, Rachel was adoring the sweater. She had even gotten a few patterns onto it. There was a jack-o-lantern, a bat bearing its teeth and a ghost. The word ‘BOO’ was printed below them.

“She’s going to love this! Happy Halloween, Mel!’’
