Azura normally wasn't afraid of the dark, but lately she had been a little spooked by it, due to the fact that Forests were dark, Vampires liked the dark as well. She bit her lip a little as she tried not to freak out! She could just barely make out Professor Hirsch standing against a sort of black wall and she let out a soft sigh of relief.

Okay, as long as he was here. She was safe? Right?

Right.

"Hello Professor Hirsch." She called as she slowly and nervously moved into the room and grabbed a cushion that was closest to a jar of bluebell flames. She even scooted it a bit closer to the jar.. For safety.

Ah, if it wasn't the sound of the arrival of the first student.

Hirsch, who'd been anxiously waiting in his spot, kept stealing glances towards the door every now and then, almost as if he was trying to catch the first glimpse of the first student to come in. Constant vigilance and all that. So, when they did, the man's face broke into a smile-

Azura.

Oh. Well. This wasn't going to be weird for her, was it?

"Hello, Azura. Nice to see you here so early," he said, shooting a warm smile in her direction. He wanted to ask how she was doing but decided against it. It wasn't the time and she probably didn't want someone badgering her about this. So, he was going to settle for a smile for now.

Jaemin had practically flat-out ran up the stairs to the Defense classroom, because out of all his classes this one was a very hard tie for first place. Even though he wasn't good at dueling and couldn't cast all the complicated spells everyone else could cast yet, he liked Hirsch a lot and he loved learning new magic stuff... hence the rush. The rush right into the darkened room.

The small Slytherin skidded to a stop inside the door, blinking in confusion. Whaaaaat was going on? HMMMM? Why was it so DARK, Hirsch? The 'Dark' in his class's title probably didn't mean this way... Jaemin carefully picked his way up to the very front for a mat directly in front of Hirsch, and dropped onto it, crossing his legs under him.

"Hi professor!" He gave the man a wave, then sat there looking at him expectantly. OKAY, GO. TEACH.

That was, until the next student made their entrance.

To be honest, the boy's reaction to the darkness was pretty amusing but that didn't make Hirsch laugh in the slightest. Instead, it only made him smile wider as he watched the kid sit down right in front of him. Well, wasn't that nice? It would certainly make for a better lesson than to have the students who hated him right up in his face. Just saying.

"Hello, Jaemin!" he said, giving the boy a nod of his head in return.

As her eyes panned around the room she saw their teacher, Professor Hirsch leaning ever so non chalantly against a rather dark wall to the far end of the room. He looked interesting... All chill. So she sat back and closed her eyes and waited for class to start.

Even in the darkness, Hirsch still managed to notice the arrival of the next student, no matter how silent she was. She got a smile and a nod of his head sent to her from the Defence Professor but he said nothing, instead letting her opt to sit down instead. Besides, even if she looked pretty young - they all did, really - she probably wanted to go towards the chill students route. At least, that was Hirsch's thinking about all of this.

The closing of the eyes, though? The man cleared his throat in an all-too-casual manner. You know, in case the kid had any ideas about sleeping in his lesson. You couldn't defeat the dark arts while asleep.

Either they were spells too hard for just him the typical student, or they were exercising their artistic tendencies. Something that not everyone had in this school. OH.. Or they were reading things from a mug and...looking like mugs.

No learning, it seemed. Luckily he was proficient at teaching things to himself.

"Sir!" The Ravenclaw gave a greeting nod and took a seat...on the floor. Legs crossed and everything. Oooooh! He actually enjoyed sitting like this. New perspectives. No splinters from old desks and chairs. The most painful ones were in the crook behind his knee. Ooooooooooh sensitive and ouchie.

Oh, Rooney Bronwyn.

Here was another student that made Hirsch smile upon their entrance and their enthusiasm. Enthusiasm was definitely something that struck up a big deal in the man's books and it only made him appreciate the students more. Plus, it meant that they wanted to be here, rather than being here by force. Couldn't get better than that in a teacher's books.

"Hello, Rooney! Not been breaking people's hearts since we last talked, have you?" Cue a small eyebrow raise and a very amused expression on his face.

Eager to learn the next exciting new spell or charm though she may be, it no longer required sprinting at full speed and using the door as a break.

Oh, this was interesting. Hads paused at the door to take in the room. The Bluebell flames gave the DADA classroom a mysterious beauty and ambience that Hadley decided she want to replicate at home sometime. "Sir Knight," Hads greeted Hirsch, even throwing in a bit of a curtsy as she did. It's easy to forget how imaginative you were when you were seven until you suddenly find yourself seven again. And if there was one thing Hadley Denaker kept through the years was her tendency to take a thing and run with it. So Professor Hirsch was no longer Professor Hirsch. He was Sir Knight, the Ninja.

With a small smirk, Hadley spun and took a seat on one of the open mats.

Here was another reaction that greatly amused him. Was this going to be the case for most of the students coming in today? He hoped so. Mostly for his own amusement.

However, it wasn't the way she had stopped that got Hirsch laughing, it was the nickname in which she had called him by. It might have been hard to see the dimples in the darkness but they were certainly there when the man let out a chuckle. "Haddie. Nice to see the nickname sticking." Really. Maybe he could get used to this one.

Maybe.

Walking over to an empty spot, she placed her books and cushion on the floor. Niomi sat on the cushion and looked around the classroom, waiting for class to start.

DADA really was great to have, wasn't it? This professor certainly thought so.

With a small smile in place, he watched as the young girl came in and grabbed a cushion for herself. Nice adjustment, weren't those? Made things much easier to pack away when the time for activities rolled around. "Hello, Miss Kelly." Glad to have you here.

Another enthusiastic student? Was Hogwarts in abundance of those all of a sudden or was it just him?

Smiling, the man watched as she made her way inside before deciding to greet her, "Hello, Miss Duchannes!" Was the surname French? It sounded French. And certainly one that his German accent couldn't pronounce well enough.

Sorry.

"Professor Hirsch" Dante greeted the man grinning. Now to go in the darkest corner of the classroom and wait for the show to start.

This better be cool, Hirsch or Dante might be tempted to nap.

Ah, yes, if it wasn't Mr Cool himself.

Hirsch smiled to himself as he watched the Slytherin enter the room. To be honest, he would've been very upset if the boy hadn't come to class today. Bunking was all too tempting but surely, DADA wasn't boring enough for that? "Dante! Welcome."

And you'd better not take a nap, Dante. We're watching you.

Well, perhaps 'misgivings' was an understatement. He had, in fact, written a yearbook article about the professor last year, wherein he had voiced his suspicions and ultimately made his dislike of the man much more obvious than it had ever been before... and he had not exactly been subtle in the past.

But... Defence Against the Dark Arts. As a subject, it was probably Daxton's favourite, and it was definitely at the top of his list of priorities, so, more often than with almost any other class, he would turn up. His attendance today was due, in part, to the fact that the class was being held in the afternoon.

Still he was tense as he walked - barefoot and with no robes - into the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom. It was dark, he could see that before even walking inside, and that in itself was very suspicious. Darkness... it was usually used to hide something. Using the cover of darkness was an age old trick. What was Hirsch up to?

Because it felt safer, and because the flickering light of the bluebell flames were casting strange shadows and warping people's features in a most unsettling way, Daxton stayed near the door. Right beside the door, in fact, standing with his back pressed up against the wall, mere inches away from the escape route, not yet taking a seat on the floor. He folded his arms over his chest and tried to look as bored and impassive as he usually did, but with his tense demeanour and the way the light from the bluebell flames lit up and accentuated his brooding frown, Daxton Prince looked anything but bored.

Following Mr Cool was Mr Trouble, it seemed.

This was a kid to be wary of, something the man figured out last year. See, every professor had it ingrained into them that they couldn't possibly have a class full of great students. There were bound to be the misfits, the rebels, the ones who liked to test the professors, and Daxton was one of them.

No greeting? Shame.

To acknowledge the presence of the Ravenclaw, Hirsch gave him a nod of his head. No words, no smiles, just a nod. And yes, he did note the fact that he was standing all the way towards the door, something that didn't sit well with the man either.

Hirsch got a wave too, and an impish smile, and then Charlotte quite dramatically sat down on one of the cushions.

READY TO LEARN, HISCHMEISTER!

Miss Kettleburn was a stark difference to Mr Prince, wasn't she?

The skipping was fully noted, even in the dim lighting that the room was made up of. The smile was returned and he gave her a nod of his head in return. He was very much looking forward to seeing how she fared in the Dueling Club this term but since that wasn't the topic today..... the nod and smile was all she got.

Also, she was offended by how stupidly attractive he looked just lounging there. His arms and his chest and his ankles. The third year didn't think ankles could be handsome but she was happily mistaken.

Humiliated by how ridiculous she was being, Chloe did not even mutter a hello to Hirsch. She scurried past him with her head down and found a seat.

It was hard to miss the head of hair that appeared next, especially since she had so expertly walked by him without uttering a word. Seriously? No greeting? Not even a hello? Surely, he wasn't that bad, was he?

"Hello, Miss Newman." See? Not that bad.

As she got close enough, she peered through the door and grinned at the dark classroom. How cool was this? Beaming, the redhead waved at the tall man at the font - or is that back - of the room? "Good afternoon, Professor." The tiny girl moved across the classroom before she curled up on onto of the pillows, small enough that she could sit on it comfortably.

And here was another skipping student. Another Gryffindor as well, at that. Funny.

Hirsch watched as Miss Hanover first peeked into the room and, surprisingly, smiled at the darkness around her. He wasn't one to judge but in all honesty, he'd expected students to be a little confused by the darkness, not happy by it. Darkness hid a lot of things, you know. But then again, everyone was different and if she liked it, then so be it.

"Hello, Miss Hanover." Smile!

As his eyes adjusted to the light -or more accurately, the lack of it, he saw Professor Hirsch leaning against the wall. "Hello, Professor," he said with a cheery wave of his hand.

Fiyero took a step farther into the room and immediately tripped over someone's bag, sending him sprawling face-down onto the floor. It was a good thing there was a cushion to break his fall or he would've ended up with a bloody nose. He picked himself up, shaking his blond hair out of his eyes. He supposed this was as good a place as any to sit...

Another peering student. Was this their normal reaction to classroom setups? A display of constant vigilance? Because if so, the man was all too happy with this prospect. "Hello, Mr Jo-"

....................

Well, that was bound to happen.

The man leaned away from the wall slightly and was about to help the kid up when he was already shaking hair out of his eyes. Okay. "You okay there?" Maybe he should have thought twice about this setup, then......

Eh.

Blink. Blink.

"Er......Professor....?" Tentatively the boy headed for one of the cushions, not bothering to make out faces in the light of the bluebell flames. Much too confused for that. Much too busy wondering what on earth the man might have had planned for them.

Should be interesting...

"Something I should know....?" You know, before he committed to the lesson. Like...what if it was something he COULDN'T muggle his way through?? What would he do then??

Ah, caution. That was something else he should've expected as well. Again, constant vigilance. But the tone? The man didn't make much of it because frankly, he was marking that down to him being too cautious."Hello, Mr Bellaire, you're in the right room." If that was his main concern.

Except, it turned out that it wasn't.

Hirsch raised an eyebrow at the question. Something he should know? Could he remain oblivious to this? Because he really had no idea what the boy was talking about apart from the whole conversation in his office. ”I don't know, Mr Bellaire, is there?"

"Hello, Professor." Esme had found herself liking the man more and more over the course of last term and it didn't hurt that he was very attractive. Juuuuust saying.

Waving to her friends, she took a seat by Kitty. "Hey!" she said happily.

The bluebell flames surely did add a nice touch to the surroundings, didn't they? They added a certain atmosphere that reminded him all too much of the topic he had in mind. Here's hoping that the students thought so too.

And here came another one. Looking away from the nearest jar hovering right near his face, the man smiled at the young Hufflepuff to enter the room. "Hello, Miss Darcy.” And thank you for sitting next to Miss Valentine over there. Appreciated.

Instead, she had entered the classroom just as confidently as she normally did, as if the bluebell light was the norm. As long as there weren’t any spiders hiding in the corners, she had no reason not to trust Professor Hirsch.

Upon a glance, the only thing she saw lurking in the darkened corners of the classroom was Dante, who she made a point of ignoring as she walked further into the classroom and selected a mat near the front. Also, near the professor. “Good afternoon, Professor Hirsch,” she said with a half-nod, setting her bag down before settling herself on the mat and making herself comfortable. Now she just had to wait to see if any of the others arrived, in case they were going to have to work in partners again.

And here came confidence.

Hirsch had thought that there would be some kind of surprise at the prospect of stepping into a suddenly dark room but maybe he should've realised that there were some who were used to this? After all, not everyone lived up in those towers.

"Hello, Miss Brooklyn," he said, giving her a smile and a nod in return. It was funny to note that the girl wasn't sitting next to Dante. Yes, professors saw all. What did you think they talked about during staff meetings?

Entering a darkened classroom only lit by jars of bluebell flames was enough to cause a brief pause in the brunettes step but not enough to stop her fully in her tracks. It did have her casting a complete look around the entire room as she moved forward checking for anything that could potentially jump out at her...spiders. After doing a double sweep of the area and then well another just for good measure her hazel eyes fell upon the Professor. "Hello Professor," she greeted simply with a slight nod of her head.

Grabbing herself a cushion when she spotted them she set it down in a semi darkened spot somewhere in the center of the room. Why she wasn't entirely sure but from here she was able to see everything around her with minimal effort. Now what were they doing today that they needed to be in the near dark for?

And that, right there, was a perfect sign on how to enter a classroom, especially one with a different setting than usual. Were people taking notes?

Smiling widely, Hirsch watched as the Slytherin entered and greeted him. "Hello, Miss Lynch. Congratulations on your Defence OWL,” Proud, the man had been.

And if Hady was here, that meant that Zeke wasn't too far behind, right?

Well, this student was polite, wasn't she? It was nice to hear, to be honest, even if he didn't expect it too much. "Welcome, Miss Ross," he said, shooting the young girl a smile and a nod of his head.

And yet again she wondered why she did not want to go to Hogwarts at first.

As she entered the dark room, Bec’s eyes followed the blue light that illuminated her surroundings. There were not desks nor chairs in the room either. Which wasn’t a big shocker. The mats however had her raise an eyebrow. Spotting the Professor leaning against a black wall, the first year girl marched over and waved. “Hi Professor Hirsch! You look positively creepy standing there” which were other words for ‘cool’ apparently. Now, time to find a spot to sit. She turned and found Helpful Slytherin Girl (Hady) from Herbology grabbing a cushion. The Gryffindor followed the girl before she disappeared in the darkness and sat down on the mat next to her. “Hi” she smiled. “Thanks for your advice in Herbology, I can do that Aguamenti charm now!” she was rather proud of that.

…… Creepy?!

That was….. something he heard quite a lot, actually. Tattoos, you see. When your arms and back were laden with them, creepy was just one of the names you had to get used to hearing. But coming from a student? This was new.

Taken aback, he blinked at her. Was this a compliment? Because it was an odd one. And he wasn't sure how to take it, to be honest. "Er, thanks Miss Meadows."

Sure. Creepy. Okay.

When it looked like there were no more students about to stroll in and take their rightful places, he man took out his wand and flicked it towards the direction of the door. The door shut with a small snap. Any students walking in after this moment we're going to be late and they'd have to suffer the consequences.

But right now, he had a lesson to teach! The man clapped his hands once, almost as if he was calling the attention of the students assembled there. "Hello and welcome to another lesson on Defence Against the Dark Arts. Today, I want to try and focus on dark creatures, because something people tend to forget with this subject is that it includes dark creatures as well, not just dark wizards." Though, he could be wrong about just how many people made the connection between dark creatures and this subject.

"Before I begin to tell you about this creature, I want to test your knowledge first," he said, starting his usual pace around the classroom, "Magical folk are meant to stay hidden, both for their own and Muggles’ protection. If word spread, both parties could be in danger. But!"

Cue dramatic pausing because he felt like it.

"There have been times when something has leaked, word has spread and the Muggle world in general has caught sighting of a form of magic. What I want to know from you all is: can you name an example of this? An example of a magical creature that's widely known by the Muggle community, even if they don't know that it's magical in the first place?" Very simply question where any and all information is welcome.

OOC: HAI lovelies! Thanks for putting up with me on this lateness <3 The question is pretty simple as it is but PLEASE try and only mention ONE example in your post ^^

Also, the class has already started so please DON'T post coming in. Simply pretend as though you were there the entire time. People are always welcome to jump in whenever.

Class will officially continue in about 20 hours' time
