"Sounds like a plan. I usually opt for work avoidance tactics, but if you don't mind snapping me out if it, that'd be cool too." Win. They were both totally winning. And OF COURSE, he'd be there to support her in return, he was decent at listening, even if he didn't have answers.
But yeah, his mum as cool, perhaps even the coolest, so Janelle's reaction didn't come as a surprise to him, but what she said about him did.
...
"You think so?" he questioned, because questioning these things seemed easier than accepting them. But, the sentiment was appreciated, "thanks, and you too... I mean, magizoology is awesome, and law enforcement is cool too if that's what you decide." Dragons, DRAGONS were tempting, and it reminded him of Amur... perhaps it was something to look into.
Pushing away from the wall slightly, Zeke looked back down the corridor to see some others returning back to their class, they should move that way too. Slowly. He didn't mind that Janelle did have a question for him, it was only fair that he share something with her since she was so willing to do the same. But if he had one wish?................. THAT WAS HARD! Hard and easy at the same time, because really, there was one thing he would never say no to. "Just that my family stays safe... I don't want to lose them too," he shrugged. But if he thought his own stuff was heavy, Janelle possibly had it worse.
He never even considered race to be a 'thing', but he supposed he didn't understand because it wasn't something HE had to face. From what she'd said, he could empathise with living amongst muggles, and this made him snort lightly. "That's awful, but it reminds me... the kids in our neighbourhood," and he said neighbourhood instead of shelter because that was something he didn't yet feel comfortable discussing with the Ravenclaw, "used to call me Freaky Zekey... they just didn't understand." It wasn't so bad now though, because he lived with magic in his life, and they didn't. It sucked to be them.
Zeke started to take strides back to their class, gesturing with a nod for Janelle to keep pace with him. "It was nice getting to know you, by the way, suppose not learning runes has it's perks." He smiled before slipping back into their classroom. This kinda beat doing normal work.
Janelle was glad that Zeke agreed to be her "Stamp our fear of failure" partner.
"Agreed. I'm good at snapping people out of things." This was good. Janelle had gotten to know someone new today. Now that they had pretty much bared their souls to each other it felt like they had some sort of bond. Zeke was cool and she wouldn't mind having him for a friend, if he was ok with that.
Zeke seemed surprised when Janelle said he'd surely do well at whatever career he chose.
"Of course I think so. I know that we've only gotten to know each other for like ten minutes, but I think I'm a good judge of people. I don't want to sound like Professor Cassie or anything, but I get a pretty good vibe from you.......a positive one. You'll be great." That she was sure of.
When Zeke revealed his one wish, Janelle completely understood. Her family was the most important thing in the world to her so, of course she would want that too. It made sense, given Zeke's history, that he would want to keep his family safe.
"That's an excellent wish", she replied. See, you
could tell a lot about a person by knowing what they'd wish for.
Why were kids so mean? Zeke was an awesome kid and it made Janelle sad to think that others couldn't see that too.
"Why are kids so mean?", she said, thinking out loud.
"You know what I think? I think kids feel threatened by what they aren't familiar with or what they don't understand. I think we're both pretty cool, but some people just didn't get us. Well you know what? That's just too bad for them. We just have to keep on being awesome, whether they understand us or not."
And just like that, their time was up. As Zeke started to return to class, Janelle walked along next to him.
"It was nice getting to know you too. I was a little afraid of this activity, but I think it turned out OK." As they reached the classroom door Janelle turned to Zeke and smiled.
"I hope I see you around sometime. Remember, if you need someone to talk you down or perk you up, I'm available." With that, Janelle returned to the classroom.
