Guilty that he couldn’t makes thing better. Guilty that she had to cry.
But clearly she didn’t want to talk about it at the moment, so he dropped it. And was quite thankfully that Sophie had let him drop what he had said too. They were moving on. Which was great. Because he was incredibly embarrassed about the information he had just shared. Ahem. Know one knew that. And no one was supposed to know that. He wasn’t a child. He wasn’t supposed to have reoccurring nightmares.
He did give her a small grin at her words, though. ”Love you too,” he was thankful for the next task on the card. Something light. Something less depressing. Something like comic relief. Merlin Botros, had he planned this?
It could also go in a number of ways. Sophie Brown was cozy with LOADS of Professors. So Zander was curious. Which would she choose to imitate? It didn’t take him by surprise when she chose Professor C, knowing quite well that the two of them knew each other incredibly well since Sophie had been his student since second year and all. But he did NOT expect to laugh so hard.
Sweet Merlin, Soph! He was breathing up until the part about Sophie Brown being the best and most ingenious student. Though he might’ve agreed, HE JUST ABOUT LOST IT. Steak as big as his ego. o m g. SOPHIE BROWN.
He had to take a few moments just to catch his breath and calm down a bit. ”Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.” Sophie Brown never failed to surprise him. ”Don’t know if I can manage to top yours, but er…” and with that he stood up. Taking just a second to think about which Professor he’d choose, the Gryffindor began jumping around the tiled floor. Almost looked like an ickle playing “the floor is lava”. But with more grace and agility. This was a part of the scene. ”SPACE!” he began. ”It’s this ENTIRE WORLD filled with ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES,” he pranced around a little bit, especially making sure to circle his arms around in big dramatic movements. ”PEBBLES, GET BACK HERE!” Clarification, he was pretending to talk to a pretend pet rock. Because apparently that’s what Flamsteed did. ”Sweet solstice, if we want to get your brothers adopted, you have to set a good example and not hobble away while I am trying to nourish the young, developing minds of our bright future!” Merlin. ”Er, also live long and prosper,” he did the volcano salute thing that went along with it too. ”Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go unbeedazle my holiday suit.”
He mussed his hair and sat down again. That was exhausting. How did Professor F manage to prance around the classroom for entire lessons at a time? Zander could hardly keep up with it for a three minute imitation. He handed over the card just as the second task disappeared. Getting that kind of reaction out of Zander actually made her feel loads better already and she laughed right along with him at the end. "Thanks." But who would ZANDER impersonate? Would he cheat and do Bentley, a former professor? The new Myers guy? Javy? Flamsteed? Or...
Haaaaaahahaha. The moment he shouted space, Soph started laughing, and it intensified when he mentioned Pebbles AND used the term "sweet solstice." "That was the BEST. You've got him in the BAG. Mannerisms and all. I'd love for him to see you do that." They should go see both Culloden and Flamsteed after this and reenact their impressions. They'd be SOOOOO honored, wouldn't they? Hehehehe.
Accepting the card from him, Soph let out a low hum as she read the next question on the card. Hmm. There were a few immediate things that came to mind, but before she could give it too much thought, she was talking already. "I'm afraid of failing 'n not being the best 'cause people expect me to be the best at everything every day all the time 'n if I give an answer in class that's wrong or less than extraordinary people will probably fall over 'n die of shock 'n pigs will fly 'n that kind of pressure makes me not even want to go to classes a lot of the time but I do it anyway 'n make myself stop crying 'n drag myself out of bed 'n come to class anyway 'cause I'm Head Girl and m'supposed to try hard 'n be Ms. Hogwarts 'n be a good example 'n everything. There's no room for failure or less than extraordinary work from me 'cause I'll disappoint everyone who expects so much of me. I'll disappoint the professors 'n the young kids who look up to me 'n my friends 'n you 'n then you won't want me to be your girlfriend anymore 'cause m'not as incredible 'n perfect as you think I am 'n you'll stop loving me."
A forced smile firmly set upon her lips, but tears shining in her eyes, Soph extended the card over to him and proceeded to completely avoid eye contact.
Yeeeep. That just happened. And she was... probably not okay, but. Assignment. They had an assignment to fulfill. He would just... do his part, right? And casually ignore her overflow of emotions right now?
