Potion of the Month

With summer gone, you'd think the hayfever and similar allergies would take a hike, right? WRONG. Most stay with you for a long time because they're annoying little buggers. So we, at the Quill, have decided to enlighten you on a potion that should help. Heard of the Antillergen Potion? It’s a potion that deadens your allergic reactions for an entire year, if brewed correctly. That’s right, folks: a whole year where you can show that hay fever that you’re not taking its nonsense this year. The recipe is below, complete with the writer’s edited notes and tips.

Antillergen Potion
deadens allergic reactions for a year's time

Ingredients:
• Water
• 10 drops Valerian root
• 10 drops Salamander Blood
• 2 dock leaves
• 1 Ashwinder Egg
• 4 sprigs Fluxweed
• 10 drops Murtlap Essence
• 2 sprigs Parsley
• 3 spoons Raw honey
• 5 Basil leaves
• 1 whole Papaya
• 1 Ginger Root
• 17 Reishi (mushroom of immortality)

Instructions:
1) CLEAN YOUR CAULDRON!
Double-clean, triple-clean, if you have to but just make sure that it’s CLEAN.
2) Fill cauldron with water:
Aguamenti is brilliant
3) Add valerian root and salamander blood, one drop at a time, alternating between the two
There is no rush in this step. Simply take it slow and make sure you get out a drop EXACTLY. Get right down until you’re eye level with the bottom of the stopper and squeeze it slowly until you get the perfect little drop. If you have to, practice with a pipette and a beaker first. Try and squeeze out droplets of water into the beaker until you're confident at it.
4) Add the dock leaves to mortar and crush
Make sure to CLEAN the mortar and pestle BEFORE adding the dock leaves
5) Break frozen ashwinder egg into mortar
Like you would with a regular egg. Haven’t broken an egg before? Learn.
6) Add fluxweed to mortar
7) Add mixture from mortar into cauldron
8) Add Murtlap Essence
9) Stir eight times counter clockwise
Note that it says COUNTER clockwise. I always look down at the cauldron and imagine the face of a clock on there. I start stirring from where the 12 would be because it’s easier to mark whether I’ve made a full stir.
10) Add parsley sprigs loosely crushing them into cauldron
Just crush these with the mortar and pestle LOOSELY. Don’t over do it.
11) Add raw honey
12) Slice Basil leaves with a Silver Knife.
CLEAN the silver knife before using it.
13) Stab whole papaya with same silver knife stuff basil in papaya's wounds.
You don’t need to clean this since you’re going to add the basil leaves anyways.
14) Add Papaya to cauldron.
Add, not freaking dump into the cauldron like it’s a Quaffle.
15) Add grated ginger root.
CLEAN the grater. This is a VERY important step.
16) Add thinly sliced Reishi Mushroom to cauldron.
Take your time making these slices as thin as possible.
17) Wave wand over Cauldron in fast strinking oblique motion and cast the "Sanum" spell.
Practice first.

And that's all! If done correctly, your Antillergen Potion should work properly and save you from the allergies. Have a potion you’d like to see on the Potion of the Month? Have any tips of your own? Drop us an owl and it could be featured in the next issue.
