Best lesson ever... unless Quigley was just teasing. Was he just teasing?
...
.....
Right...Gryffindor Syndrome was taking over. So excited he could hardly make words happen. Perfectly understandable. He spent seven years in the Gryffindor Common Room and had been a victim a few times himself so naturally he understood exactly what the young Gryffindor was saying. Obviously. "Very true. The hoops are ridiculously small. Only the dragon would have a chance and that's no fun for the rest of us." SPOILER!!: Adi Quote:

It took him a moment but he finally did come up with something. "The dragons can possibly burn down the hoops,'' he suggested, his hand up. It WAS a possibility... unless the things were fireproof. Anyway, he had only one suggestion to offer, thank you very much.
Oh. Huh. "I suppose..." He mused, rubbing at the little stubble by his chin. "Though I was thinking more along the lines of the problem we would have trying to get through those hoops with the dragons."
It was a fair point though. The dragons could scorch the hoops but only if told to do so and if that was the case the student wouldn't be so happy. SPOILER!!: Hady Quote:

Fitting a finger through one of the slots in the cage she stroked his head whispering to him, "Easy Klaus, I'm sure you can come out soon..."
Lifting her head to the hoops she shrugged her shoulders. They looked just fine to her so what was wrong with them?
It wasn't the answer to the question he'd asked, in fact it wasn't an answer at all. Maddox had caught the voice of the Slytherin who'd been muttering to her dragon. "Do try to stay focused, Miss Lynch. We're talking about the hoops now and it's something you'll need to know."
Did he have to take her dragon to get her to pay attention? SPOILER!!: Layla Quote:

Dragon could fly no problem, she on the other hand..
No. Just no.
Still not a peep out of this one. Huh. Maybe she was having an off day...off week....off life. Who really knew with students that got to that age? Maddox would simply content himself with the fact that she looked like she was paying attention, unlike the young Slytherin he'd just had to lightly reprimand. He couldn't be bothered with the repetitive plea to have them paying attention. No thanks. SPOILER!!: Ezra Quote:

!!!!!!!!!! "W-What? Really? You're on!" The Gryffindor looked at Zeke and grinned widely. "I'm going to do it." Before Bellaire showed up, but he had permission right? There were 10 possibly 20 galleons on the line. "Stand back professor!" Ezra made a large dramatic sweeping motion to make sure no innocent standerby would be hurt in the process. "Zeke make sure I don't die aka catch me." The Professor was more than capable yes but he might be mad once Ezra WON the bet.
Ezra bent down into a squat and prepared to jump. They were up pretty high. One, two, three!! "Ahhh!!" And he was in the air. No where close... The minute was passed. What was he going to do? He wouldn't loose and have to face the man again every Charms lesson. Think! THINK! "Can I use magic, Professor?" He should be allowed. He pulled out his wand and tried to wrack his brain for a spell. He didn't know any good human transfiguration left but wings would be cool. Something to shoot him into the air. Another jump? This was going to be embarrassing if he didn't do it. Oh...that was it right? Ascend-me-o? Yeah?
Not knowing the correct wand movement and a variation of the incantation Ezra waved his wand in a jerky motion at the ground as he looked up at the hoop high above him. " Accendmeo!" Nothing happened at first but then he shot like a rocket, zigzagging like crazy until he thought he was going to break in half before the hoop was right in front of his face....
Now he was falling. Grab it stupid! He shouted in his head. In a second he grabbed the small hoop with one hand then two and hung from it. Even though it was small the Professor's spellwork kept him aloft. "More than a minute..." He said through gritted teeth and a smile. "But..I did it." Who said your spellwork couldn't be shoddy.
And a question has been posed to the class? What was wrong with the hoops for the lesson? "Umm...is it because...you all are down there?" Yeah he had won but he wanted down.
HELP Professor Dude. "Of course you can use magic." More like--how do YOU plan to without magic? They were not muggles, they did not need to suffer the inconvenience of...well...muggling around.
Forgive him for overestimating this one, however. Apparently it was too much to hope the boy knew something as simple as Ascendio...
Maddox jumped back, not willing to be pulled into the sky with the young Gryffindor and for the briefest moment he held his breath and prayed to Merlin that he wouldn't get fired for this but then miracle of all miracle--the boy LIVED! Nevermind he was currently suspended on a floating hoop, he was still LIVING and this no longer counted as an act of negligence so of course Maddox laughed. Lots of snickers and stifled laughs and at last just outright amused laughing as he lowered the hoop that supported the boy. "Splendid work, Mister Earnest." He said watching the hoop approach the ground. "You can collect those ten galleons when you've got some time." Because that, right there was classic entertainment and a reward was in order. A bet was a bet. SPOILER!!: Norah Quote:

She couldn't just drop a dragon, especially the king dragon. "Well, I dunno about you professor, but I don't know how to fly. I don't think King Phil--I mean my dragon--knows how either." Unless he went off learning without telling her, but that'd be mean 'cause she MADE him, remember? Maybe dragons didn't need professors to learn how to fly. But maybe they DID and they had whole big schools like Hogwarts. MAN, that'd be awesome.
That...that was also really true. "This...yes. Flying is an issue, though I wouldn't discredit your dragon. He's well aware of how to use those wings of his, you just have to let him out--but not yet." No, that could happen a little later on but not right now. Were they clear on that?
Good. SPOILER!!: Dante Quote:

It seemed that most of the younger ones were racing out there. Dante was intrigued especially when he saw the hoops.
He carefully set the cage on the ground, dropped his bag and waited for the professor's instructions.
And another one that seemed more distracted than all here. "Attention this way, Mister Malloy." It wouldn't hurt to answer the question being asked; just saying. SPOILER!!: Evie Quote:

Distracted by the hoops, she wasn't watching where she was going and ALMOST bumped into Dante. Again. But she managed not to and instead kept her cool. But she did stand by him and give him a smile. "Hi," she said before trying to peek at his dragon to see what it looked like. Hers was just grey, but the scales got darker as they got closer to his skin, which gave him a cool look. She was pretty proud of that.
And there was Mister Malloy's distraction. Lovely the two could be off in a little conversation but he would prefer they answered the question he asked instead. Talking could happen later during the activity if they were good enough at multi-tasking. Otherwise.....no. No that was likely to get him in trouble and he couldn't have that. "Over here Miss Shacklebolt." Yes, hi, hello; class this way. SPOILER!!: Puck Quote:

“Do you mean that we are going to shrink ourselves down in size?” She asked and gulped slightly. Really that was the only thing that made any sense. She was excited okay so excited.
Er..."Not exactly, Miss Grevyson." Maybe not at all actually. They could shrink themselves but then how long would it take to fly up there with them so tiny? All day maybe and they didn't have all that much time left in the lesson. SPOILER!!: Lux Quote:

... But they would be taken away again if she was expected to fly because no that was not going to happen for a million Chocolate Frogs. Her gaze drifted to the hoops and she wondered how she had missed them before.
Raising her hand, she answered the question. "I think they are too small for us to both fly through." They wouldn't really have to go up there, would they? Because if so she was going to have to tell Professor Quigley that she was too scared of heights. "Precisely, the hoops are too small for us to get through them even if we were up there with the dragons." How big were they again? He couldn't actually remember. They'd been set up there before he went to the classroom at the start of this hour. Something to think on. Hmm. SPOILER!!: Angel Quote:

What I meant was each person going through the hoops with their dragons...not with each other." The hoops were DEFINITELY too small to accommodate everyone. It simply wouldn't be a good idea. Maybe he had to stay back and help others? Possibly.
He pointed to the hoops from what he could see through the bright sunlight. He needed his sunglasses or something. Quigly wanted to know what problems could they have with the hoops? He wondered about this.. "Professor could the hoops shrink on their own?"
Maddox wasn't certain, but he might not have been understanding where this Hufflepuff was going with his question. "The hoops wouldn't shrink unless we made them shrink, but that would hardly help with the current problem we're having of not being able to fit through the hoops with our dragons if we wanted to." They didn't need anything getting any smaller at this point. Not at all. SPOILER!!: Toby Quote:
Originally Posted by Felixir "One problem is that we can't get through the hoops because we can't get up there, because flying's not allowed at school right now." Sigh. "And another problem is that if we were allowed to fly up there, the dragon is too small for us to fly on. But we could just trust them to go up there and fly through the hoops on their own, no big deal. But we still wouldn't get to go through the hoops."
How big exactly were those tiny hoops supposed to be? Because like... his dragon was tiny. Toby was... okay, yeah, sorta tiny for his AGE, but not tiny-dragon-tiny. He squinted up and tried to gauge just how big they were.
Well someone was being a bit of a Debbie Downer. "....Yes." Yes to both responses. The hoops were too small to fit through and something about flying being restricted at the school. Honestly, that hadn't been the most pressing issue for the Charms Professor. "Let's put it this way." He paused to be sure they were on the side of the castle that got overlooked by the Headmistress's Office window before looking to the Hufflepuff again. "I won't tell, if you won't tell."
Deal? SPOILER!!: Aubrey Quote:

What was the question again? Oh yeah. The hoops. "The only problem I see is that we aren't flying our dragons through them right now." Wasn't she just the perfect little student?
Hah. Snort. It took all the Professionalism the man held which admittedly wasn't that much to refrain from outrightly laughing at Aubrey's mix up. No amused looks over here. Nope. None. He would even try for a straight face for as long as it lasted.
Maddox grinned at her response. "A very serious problem indeed but only patience can fix that part." Just a little longer. Had to make sure they were capable enough and all that other responsibility stuff. SPOILER!!: Dante Quote:

"One, i do not think i am big enough to fit in those hoops and Two would you actually levitate me up there to go through the hoop if i was small enough, Professor Q....uigley?"
He would only really trust Professor Q to do it. Since he was a Professor and all. And it sounded like fun. Well as long as he did not get hurt that is.
Still it was something worth doing if Professor Q would let him.
This one might have missed the point completely. Maddox stared, not sure what to say at first. "Um...the problem isn't that you aren't big enough, Mister Formy, but rather that at the moment you're too big to fit through such small hoops." A little backward this one was but he would chalk that up to the excitement the kid must have been feeling. Half the class looked hype on sugar anyway. "And as much as I would love to levitate you," except not really, "I have something else in mind." He would see in a moment. SPOILER!!: Dima Quote:
Originally Posted by lemon Dima was thinking about this question long and hard, he was. After a few moments, he raised his hand to answer. "The hoops are too tiny. They can fit the dragons, but not us. So we'd have to shrink ourselves down. Would that cause some kind of bodily issue? Shrinking organs and stuff? If it does, we'd have to make the hoops bigger."
Someone would have to levitate them too, like Dante said.
The dragons were still TINY dragons, after all. "Rest assured, Mister Toussaint, we won't be shrinking ourselves and even if we were that charm maintains proportions so we wouldn't have any problem with organs." Funny how THAT was what concerned him most. "But yes, the hoops are too small."
Maddox glanced up at his dragon again, figuring he'd gotten enough exercise by now. If not, it was a pity but he needed him for the demonstration now. The Charms Professor whistled a calling and held his hand out for the dragon to land. "So you all have the basic idea right here. The hoops are too small and too high. There's no way to get to them and even less a way to get through them with your dragon as is. This brings a few questions. How do we fix this? How do we get up there? What do we too about the hoops. Everything can easily be fixed with one spell."
He waved his wand about in the air causing it to create glowing red lines that finally spelled out: ENGORGIO "Can you all see this?" He took a step back so he wouldn't be blocking anyone. "Engorgio. This spell makes any object bigger and it's perfect for our current situation. Make the dragons bigger--you can fly them to the hoops. Make the hoops bigger--you can both fly through them." Easy as cake. "Mister Tempus brought up the point that flying isn't allowed anymore. Can I see the hands of the individuals that intend to report this to the Headmistress after we get through here? If so you may be excused. Head to the kitchens or back to your Common Rooms for a nap; whatever makes you happy. You have my expressed permission."
He'd even pause to give them a chance to leave. "As for the rest of you, the wand movement is an incomplete circle in a clockwise motion. Remove your dragons and cast on them. Remember the intent and do remember that enlargening beyond a certain point will cause the object to explode so I'll need you all to really focus. Try for nothing bigger than 8 ft from tip to tail." Did he need to repeat that for anyone? "Go ahead." So I was meant to post this hours ago, whoops but this is pretty straight forward. Have your charries make their dragons big enough for them to mount and fly--within the limits stipulated by the Professor. It'll take 1-2 posts depending on how good your charrie is, their skill level, etc (I trust you guys with this realism thing). We'll move on to the final activity tomorrow evening.
