Professor Morgan
With gratitude to Ali
Another successful scrying lesson complete, Professor Morgan had set to polishing each of the crystal balls by hand. One by one, she wrapped each heavy glass orb in her polishing cloth, buffing away smudges from student noses that got far too close.
Once polished, the orb was placed in an individual bag and stacked next to her. Velvet bags of deep blue, radiant purple, verdant green. The stack grew bigger and bigger, and finally, Cassie decided to put them all back in storage.
It was no small task to store an entire school’s worth of crystal balls and the wooden shelves creaked and groaned as the weight of the glass was once again on them. One by one, Cassie levitated the orbs back onto the high shelves, stored for another term.
As the last ball came to rest on the highest shelf, the wood gave way, sending a cascade of crystal balls onto the shelf below, which in turn gave way, sending an avalanche of orbs onto poor Cassie Morgan. Burying her beneath untold tons of glass.
She really should have seen that coming.
