Cosgrach ignored his wishes part, because it was boy's responsibility to look up a thing he wanted to do. Instead, he said "They certainly can't do everything." Nope. But that was the next question.

The blackboard added what they said, again, as Cosgrach generally kept silent. He smiled at everyone who answered, of course, to encourage them. This lesson would be enjoyable only if they shared their ideas.
