| *is late* *puts on cone of shame* astronomizzle ♧ gryffinDORK | & the rest is drag ♣ #badluckDerf Airey had taken to performing random leaps and clapping loudly over his head every now and again to represent his molecule self bumping into other things. He didn't think it would be proper for him to bump into students as was. He did tower over the majority of the students and Merlin help him if he sent another Hufflepuff to the hospital wing. LEAP CLAP LEAP CLAP LEAP CLAP LEEEEEEEEEAP!
Oh right, he needed to have his full attention on his class so he could be at least somewhat prepared for round two of the chorus of responses.
How long had they been jogging around the classroom now? He was sure he had jogged past door at least 4 or 5 times by now - and the classroom was rather wide. This was important information you see. Quote:

Sophie bumped into a few people but listened to the professor as she did so. Hmm...what happened to air pressure as the temperature goes up? Sophie began to think of something like...well, a balloon. "Well, wouldn't it be like that balloon that went KABOOM at the beginning of class?" she asked. Were they supposed to raise their hand while playing human bumper cars? "The more air you put into it while trying to expand it, the more pressure you gave it. Finally, it went KABOOM." He could just BARELY make out what Miss Newell had been saying over the rest of the voices, but he DID hear her. "What you are referring to is slightly different, Miss Newell," he nodded. "You are referring to the ingredient of volume, which we will get to in just a moment." SPOILER!!: AIR PRESSURE INCREASES! Quote:

There was also a question to be answered. We're they supposed to raise their hands while running or just continue to shout out their responses? Sort of raising her hand, Jasmine said, "I think that the air pressure increases as the temperature rises". Looking around for another student to bump, Jasmine continued jogging. Quote:

Simon blinked. How? How did one do such a thing? What did molecules think of? He didn't know. Did they think of what precise velocities that they were going to generate to fling themselves at a neighbouring molecule. Oh boy, if only they knew. The boy was pretty sure, however, that molecules didn't have their own thoughts though he'd play along with the notion because it was a rather cool concept.
So they had to very gently collide into someone? Simon smirked. That sounded sort of fun to the Slytherin. Someone bumped into him. Or had he bumped into them? Simon didn't know. "Uhh.. sorry," he said as he gently was pushed or bumped into another person. He was quickly losing his personal space with all these collisions happening. Grin and bear it. Grin and bear it, Simon. You'll survive, he told himself as he began to feel like one of those pin ball machines that one would find in old muggle arcades. "Doesn't air pressure increase?" Quote:

Okay. If they were going to talk about the weather, was there going to be a lightbulb moment where they figured out WHY it was snowing so much? Were the molecules around the place just being freaking lazy and not bumping into each other as much as they should? Because that was not acceptable. His mum usually told him off for being lazy and someone needed to tell the molecules that too, mkay?
But the idea of bumping into someone on purpose? Yes.
Yes.
FREAKING YES.
First, he was going to try and answer that question about air pressure. "Air pressure goes up too, I think" he said, his hand in the air, "If the molecules move around faster and bump into each other and regular things more, the pressure's bound to go up." Logic.
Now it was the fun part. Grayson was a bull and he was going to CHARGE -- gently or whatever -- towards the person directly in front of him. Chaaaaaarge..........
......... slow motion charging........
............. and BUMP! Gently.
Yo. Quote:

And now they were... PLAYING BUMPER CARS? Or, well... actually they were playing Molecules, but it was an awful lot like that old playground game of bumper cars. Without hesitation, Toby crossed his arms over his chest, like in the old game, and went on moving about. He was careful to try and slow down because he didn't want to HURT anybody, but other than that Toby was totally engrossed. As for the question, the Hufflepuff tried his darnedest to give his input. What happens to air pressure when temperature goes up? "Up. Things move and bounce and go faster and heat up more." As he spoke his words came out quickly and excitably, further illustrating his point. "The faster they move the more they bounce. More force from bouncing. Higher pressure."
Something like that. Whatever, Toby was busy literally bouncing off the walls. Quote:

So they had to bump into each other? This may end badly for some people. Kace would keep some control. He saw Bay and Lux and smirked. He bumped into them and said, "Sorry you two love birds.." he winked at them. He said it jokingly of course. Then he saw Grayson and bumped into him lightly. He was having TOO much fun with this. He was looking for Emmy but could not find her anywhere. Maybe she didn't catch up yet?
Then he heard the professor's question. He raised his hand and said, "I think the air pressure increases as the temperature goes up." Because then why did they have humidity when they couldn't even breathe too well? Quote:

She did not like jogging/running in front of people because it totally messed up her hair. The Hufflepuff slowed down slightly, pretending to pay attention to what Professor Flamsteed was saying.
Did molecules even think? This was the first question that came up to the second year's mind as she gently bumped into people around her, not bothering to apologize because hey, she was asked to do this. Leah now focused on how it felt. She was bouncing away from bigger and older students because she was small, but about the air pressure..
Leah was bouncing against people faster now, because she was kind of moving faster as she bumped into other students and the wall. She tried to raise her hand and speak among this confusion. "Air pressure increases!" the girl half-yelled, continuing to bump. Quote:

They were going to be molecules. Penelope wouldn't be suprised if the activity involved temperature changes in the room as the students moved around. She gently bumped a few people near her, then more people as she jogged a bit faster. The excitement of running around and being a molecule made Penelope feel warmer, and jog faster. No, it was not just the warmth from the jogging. As she jogged faster, she felt warmer. Not hot, but a tingly kind of warm. Was it just her, or was it like this in the room around her? Sometimes Penelope's emotions were reflected in the weather or temperature around her. She wasn't sure if the temperature changes were just around her, where no one could notice, or if it was on a slightly larger scale. As far as she could tell, it was just her affected by temperature and weather changes, but with bumping into other people, she might find out if they could feel anything. "When the temperature goes up, the molecules move faster and bounce more. Because the molecules are moving faster and bouncing more, they exert a greater force on the molecules and surfaces that they bounce off, therefore the pressure is higher. As the temperature increases, the air pressure increases!" Penelope shouted, hoping that the professor could hear her. Quote:

Either way she tried not to bump into anyone because in her mind she imagined that if she collided with someone then someone behind her would collide, too and it would be chaos! She liked that way. Although she did lightly bump into others but now she controlled her pace and was able to meander around.
So yeah, they were talking weather.
And apparently they were to try bumping into each other. For academic reasons no doubt. Cassia dialed down her carefulness as she jogged allowing her body to indeed bump into others, she however kept being careful because falling off the tower seemed like a possibility.
Searching for the professor, Cassia slowed down considering the question. OH, there he was! "Pressure and temperature are directly proportional to each other, so if one increases so does the other." Back to jogging. Quote:

And...where is Simon? Grayson? Cutty? He needs to bump his bros too you know. Oh hey look, a wall! BUMP. Quote:

"Pressure and temperature increase!" That was what she was taking from this because she felt like she was going to be squished and it was getting far too warm for her liking all of a sudden.
Aaaaaaaah it was music to his ears, and while all the voices blended together to a certain degree there were a few that stood out. Particularly the voice of Miss Wright since she had shouted her response and drowned out a lot of her classmates. Thumbs up to you, young lady! "PRECISELY!" he applauded. Literally. His arms were above his head clapping as he jogged backwards. "As Miss Somerlad put so concisely, air pressure and temperature are proportional to each other. When one increases, the other increases. When one decreases, so does the other." Fascinating, wasn't it? He certainly found it to be, so hopefully he wasn't alone in all this.
"If any of you have ever listened to the muggle weather forecast, you heard them throwing out the terms high pressure system and low pressure system," he continued as he continued to jog backwards. "A low pressure system occurs when air moves away from an area faster than air enters it. When air spreads out, this spreading is called divergence, at high altitudes, air from below flows upward to fill the space, making a low pressure system," he explained complete with dramatic arm movements. "Air piles up, this is called convergence, on the surface and has anti-clockwise rotation here in the Northern Hemisphere."
They really just needed a very very basic understanding of this, so no need to panic over the details.
"A high pressure systems form a bit differently. Instead of air speeding up, it slows its forward motion down," he said as he quite suddenly slowed his own movement to illustrate. "Convergence occurs high in the sky and once the air has piled up it begins to si -----" Quote:

Mr. Hirase's movements were not only unexpected, but also incredibly ill-timed as he was in the middle of his explanation. Wind knocked out of him, but not physically knocked over because the man had more balance than that. He leaned one hand against the wall and panted to catch his breath before continuing.
"....sinks. When this air reaches the Earth’s surface, divergence occurs with clockwise surface rotation," he said, completing his initial thought in a significantly high pitched voice than before and the occasional wheezing.
He then looked at the Gryffindor and sighed. "5 points from Gryffindor. And I expect a two inch essay delivered to my office by the end of the week on the word 'gently'." He was serious too, about that essay.
Would have been 10, but he gave the boy 5 back for the out of the box way of demonstrating the increase in pressure. Heating up. Speeding up. Crashing into more things. Doing exactly what he had asked in thinking like a molecule.
Finally catching his breath, and rubbing his side a bit - Merlin that was gonna leave a bruise - he did a few sprightly high knees to get his blood pumping again before he resumed his jog. "Everyone keep moving, we're almost there." Probably. He had actually forgotten to attach his step counter to his sundial watch after lunch to be sure. Oops.
"I would like to back up to something Miss Newell brought up. Miss Newell mentioned volume, which is another one of our ingredients for the weather. To understand how volume is related to air pressure and temperature, we need to understand two laws. Charles's Law explains the relationship between temperature and volume while Boyle's Law explains the relationship between pressure and volume. Please pick one to shout an explanation to."
Ready? GO!
"OH! You can stop bumping into each other now." He was positive that the point had been made.
And sorry, Miss Wisteria, but it was too difficult to hear you due to you being towards the back of the pack because of the WALKING. The astronomer could see her lips moving, and had simply assumed that she had been saying the same answer. OOC: I'm so sorry for the delay T_T *points at World Cup*
Hopefully this lesson will continue in 18-24 hours from the time of this post. HAPPY 4TH OF JULY
to all those who celebrate it
