Scribble. Scribble. Scribble.

And then they were talking about the carving spell and Ella smiled softly, hand raised in the air. They'd used this a lot so she was very familiar. "Professor, the incantation of the carving spell is Intaglio and you want to press your wand to a surface and make the shape of whatever you wish to carve, concentrating on the shape."

With that said, the blonde got out her quill and began to draw over and over. And guests? BROWS for that. What kind of guests were they having?

Scribble. Scribble. Scribble.

Algiz looked like a little birdy foot, didn't it?

Miss Bishop was on a roll today, wasn't she? The professor didn't miss that she'd been the first to answer most of the questions, and correctly too. "That's correct. Intaglio, Intah-lio." He pronounced slowly for the new and the younger students. "And you point your wand at the surface where you want the rune to be carved, focusing very hard on its energy, and the value it represents." Pause.

"If I want to carve Algiz, for example, I say, 'Intaglio Algiz Algiz Algiz Algiz...' until the shape of the rune is perfectly carved on the surface." It was easy, you just had to have a fresh mind.

Botros stepped down from the small dais and went to miss Bishop's desk, peering over her shoulder to the drawing. "That's good, well done." With a smile he moved forwards.

Why?

Why was he doing that?

Wrinkling his nose slightly, Tobias soon looked up to the front again. Oh... they'd moved on? GAH! What was WITH him today? Why was he getting so off track in the very class he'd been so looking forward to getting back to all summer? It was enough to really wind him up, and Toby had to fight the urge to get angry at himself. He focused on the thought that he could still do well in the rest of the lesson, and proved this to himself by sticking his hand up.

"Is it the intaglio spell thing, sir? You say 'intaglio' and then the rune and keep repeating the rune until you've finished carving it. Oh, and you need to like... sort of trace the rune as though you're writing it with the tip of your wand."

Right? Maybe?

That said, once he'd caught up on the notes from the blackboard Tobias practiced writing out the rune algiz. He didn't really need to practice it; it had definitely cropped up a couple of times in the letter he'd written to Botros over summer, but Tobias wasn't big-headed enough to believe that he was above practicing writing the rune. You could always do with practice, and you could always improve.

Like he could totally improve at how well he was doing in the class, and his brain would improve at staying focused.

Botros nodded at the little boy with a hint of pride, he knew that Mr. Tempus had the ability to carve Algiz as well as any older student.

Now she had to practice drawing a rune? What kind of waste of time was that? UGH! She pulled out a spare piece of parchment and got to work.

Aah. "No, dear. Intaglio is the correct spell. It's the spell to use if you want to carve runes and preserve their magical energy and value. You know it works well when the rune glow." He smiled and patted her shoulder as he passed by her desk.

But there's the incantation that must be first said before the chanting. I um...forgot what it was.'' And who were these guests? He was curious but he pushed the thoughts out of his head and began practicing drawing the rune. Over and over and over the first year drew Algiz's symbol.

Aw, the boy was working hard as it is. Botros smiled at him, expecting him to had written what he explained.

"The spell's 'Intaglio' and you repeat the name of the rune you're carving until the rune is complete." Well, she figured she better make up for her off the wall answer followed by her note taking silence. And what better way than this kind of complicated spell?

"Correct, good." The girl was one of the good students who followed his flow of thoughts easily, it was expected that she knew what he was talking about.

Honestly it was pretty simple. Like an upside down broomstick... sort of. Still, she wanted to draw it right.

Photos!: Parchment!

Ok this was harder than she originally thought. Eventually (after twelve tries!) she got it right. Just to make sure, she drew two more. Apparently it wasn't luck! She could now draw Algiz! She circled the correct ones, so that when the Professor came around he would be able to tell which ones Tora actually considered successful.

Botros reached the next girl's desk and peered over her shoulder at her work. "Aaah. Very good, dear. Well done." Patpatpat. Shoulder pats were his signature.

He scribbled....scribbled....scribbled....and even more scribble till he got the shape right. Once he got the hang of the shape. He waited till hear how he should preform the spell.

He even wrote Algiz on his notes so he won't be confused.

Uhhhhh.

Now he wanted to hear what the carving spell was. Oh oh. Tag couldn't remember that, so he sort of shrunk- if that was possible for a guy his height at his age- more into his seat. He should know this. Yes?

Then Ella said it was Intaglio. Tag would trust her. She was usually right, and rather smart. Yes? Yes! Though, he didn't write down that answer for the moment, in case Botros had more to say. Although, now that he thought about it, it seemed like Intaglio seemed familiar? Hadn't they used it in that maze activity in this class last year? Tag couldn't quite remember though. So he silently sat there.

In the meantime though, Tag started to practice drawing the Algiz rune. Being productive and all.

Botros was proud of the blonde lion for doing remarkably better in his class today. He patted his arm as he passed by his desk and made sure he was drawing Algiz correctly.

Okay, so that looked... totally fine. There was no apparent reason for her to practice it. Seriously, it was just three lines, how could it not look fine? So while other people were drawing Algizes, Adrienne spent her time drawing stupid comics. Yayyy.

..... oh. He was pretty sure there were more things than Algiz on this girl's parchment.

Botros took the parchment from the under the girl's arm and squinted at the drawing. "Miss.." He looked down at her nametag. "...Colbert. The Algiz rune is good, the story next to it... is confusing.Who's that with the pointy hat?" He squinted at it for a second before quickly composing himself. "This isn't drawing class. Please take your things and go sit by your Prefect." He looked over at the Ravenclaw prefect, "Mr. Barrington, I expect you to make sure the kid pays attention for the rest of class." Mhmm. This Ravenclaw seemed to be paying enough attention, good good. Botros smiled at her as he inspected her work and moved to another desk.

And.. Miss Abbi Campi. Witch Eater? Really? Alice made bitey motions at the first year with her teeth. NOT in front of the professor, little one. After attempting to scare the eleven year old into silence, she tugged out a fresh sheet of parchment and began scribbling little Algiz runes on it.

Algiz. Algiiiiz.

Guests? Hm. Interesting. Algiz was more interesting, though. It looked like a chicken foot. Her classwork was doodling bird legs.

She must definitely have a interest in the subject as well.. He didn't believe Heimdallr had excessive needs, just knew he felt needed by the people, so to speak.

He smiled back at the first year, before opening his mouth about to explain that... when Professor Botros already beat him to it.. and explained his meaning much better. Heh. Wade smiled back at the Professor nodding in thanks.

So the proper rune for Heimdallr is Algiz, though Wade was fine knowing Naudhiz could partially be as well. Just not as much as Algiz already is. He didn't hesitate on jotting down the stuff already in his books for his notes. Sure, books had the answers, but with notes they required less page flipping and eye scanning to find the right answer.

Now for the incantation, Wade raised his hand, "Intaglio is the incantation. You're met to hold the wand firmly against the surface, concentrating on nothing but the carving until it's finished." He knew his memory wouldn't forget that, especially after hearing Ella say it too. He blinked about the guests part. That sounded interesting, whoever they were. Shrugging, he got to practicing on drawing the funny upside broomstick shape.

*Scribble, scribble, scratch, scratch*

Botros didn't really need to check the Head Boy's work but he still gave him a proud approving nod and a smile as he passed his desk. One of the best students.

Oh, the spell. Kat remembered that from last term. She raised her hand. "What they said. It's Intaglio, professor." Since they had the wand movement checked too, she didn't want to repeat the answer because she already repeated the Intaglio answer. Yep.

She didn't need to know the most at things, she just didn't like being left behind.

She quickly scribbled down all of the information on Algiz on her parchment. Sure it was in her book, but handwriting it would help her remember it better when it came to exam time. Carving spell? Never done that either. Yep. She was definitely behind. Everyone seemed to be saying Intaglio and Addi vaguely remembered seeing that in one of her books somewhere.

Drawing she could do. And guests? What kind of guests? Was that a normal thing? Adelaide looked around the room as no one seemed to really question it. Oh well. She'd find out soon enough. She began to draw the Rune, trying to get it as perfect as possible. After about five or six sketches, she had what she thought was perfect.

"How's this professor?" She said holding up her parchment for him to see.

Botros made sure to keep his cane out of the way of students' legs as he moved to the Slytherin girl's desk. "Aaaah. It is perfect. Make sure to draw the three short lines meeting at one point with the longer vertical one." It was important for the carving later. "Good job, dear." He gave her the parchment back.

Flipping over pages in his book, Benzi really did try to get his head into this runes thing. But then that drawing of a bird's foot came along, and people were calling it Algiz and he was again left flabbergasted at how other first years knew this.

Grabbing his quill, he dipped it in his inkwell and began to draw the shape of the rune, over and over. It really wasn't very complicated. Meh. Glancing in his textbook, he found the description of Algiz and read it, not really seeing the point of copying the professor's description on the board.

Hey! He needed this rune to spell his name. Cool. Sort of. But why does it have two colours in the description? Glancing at the other runes, Benzi saw that they had two colours too. "Professor why do the runes have two colours, one in brackets?"

. . . It was ok to ask an off-topic question right?

Well. That was a weird question, but a legit one. Botros came closer to look at the boy's work so far. "It's from two different sources. And sometimes we take our purpose of using the rune in consideration when choosing which color it represents." He smiiiiled at the boy, expecting him to understand what he just said. It was simple!
