"Oh? Vot about them?" She asked before taking a sip of her tea.
He tugged the saucer closer with one finger and nibbled on one of the biscuits.
"Well, House elves, Hogwarts ones... they weren't free were they?" He said, still on the cautious side.
"Like, Helga Hufflepuff gave them a place to work that was better than other places and everything, but they were like... not free elves, mostly. From what books and stuff say, and everything I've ever known about elves."
Where was he going with this hmm?
Well...
"The Headmistress said that the elves resigned. All but the little one anyway, and I think... wasn't that one free? Because it was found, right? And not ever actually properly... owned by Hogwarts." Paaaause.
"But the elves couldn't have resigned, because they didn't have jobs and weren't paid or anything and weren't free, so whoever got left them when Hufflepuff died, must have ordered them away." Right? He was still trying to puzzle through the idea of it...
"And I'm guessing either the school itself, or whoever is the head of the school at the time, like Truebridge now, technically owns the elves... so maybe somehow someone else owns them now, and they made them leave. There isn't any other way what makes sense, I don't think. And its still real strange."
