Do you feel it is important as a board member to work along side of the professors and keep them in the know of everything going on or do you feel the board should be separate?
Hmm, this was a bit of a tougher question. In fact, Nolan was getting so caught up in everyone else's answers, he almost didn't hear them call him up! But he did, and he prepared himself for his next answer. This debate was much better than the last one, both in terms of entertainment and preparedness on the end of each candidate--he just hoped he fared better than last time!
"This is a bit of a tricky question because there is no clear answer. I feel that there are many things that the professors SHOULD be involved in. For example, pay raises and the implementation of clubs and resource centers like I was speaking of earlier," he explained.
"However, they are two separate entities. Just as we do not need to know every single thing that happens on their end, we do not need to share everything going on on our end. We are all grown ups and are all capable of working together and I know our professors and board members alike are mature and capable enough to realize that not everything needs to be shared between the two groups." It might not be the most popular opinion, but it was his.
"So, to put it simply--it depends on the situation. And trust me, when I'm elected, any situation that the professors need to know about WILL be brought to their attention so I can get equal feedback from all parties. And, in instances where matters should be kept strictly within the board, say for example, an employee needed to be let go--which, judging from my observations at the school, is NOT something that would be happening in the near future..." he paused and winked at the professors and staff in the audience.
"Then, the professors should trust that we are working for their benefit and will share information with them when the time comes."
Notice he kept saying WHEN he got elected, not IF. Because confidence was soooo much better than not having confidence, obviously.
