He listened attentively whilst the woman introduced herself and bowed his head in recognition at the mention of Ministry of Magic employees. Yep, he was one of those. Straightening his bow-tie as the rules were explained, he eyed each and every candidate who was sat on the stage. He'd hoped he'd get an opportunity to observe this and now he was a part of it and it gave him that all-powerful feeling that he'd left behind when he'd given up his last job in favour of more face time with actual people.

One of his eyebrows raised an infinitesimal amount at her reassurance of said candidates and the smirk pulled at the corner of his lips once more. He hoped at least one person would break under the questioning and have to bow out. They were weeding out the weak ones right?

The first candidate (Vinteren) to answer seemed extremely sure of himself and Charles respected that. His head tilted slightly as the man went on about his experiences with the graduates and aired concerns over their lack of knowledge about the rest of the world. Though he agreed, no emotion showed on his face. Today, he was impartial and just there to ask those questions that people were either too scared to ask or hadn't had their own opportunity to ask.

Once Vinteren had sat down and Carter stood up, his head straightened up. This one had something different about her. She was Law Enforcement, but not like most of the people he dealt with; they had all been so cold and calculating and angry. His eyes narrowed suspiciously at the woman until she explained her approach to the question a little more. Okay, now he was pleasantly surprised. She seemed intelligent and able to look at situations objectively. He liked her a little more than he had at the start.

The next candidate pulled a proper, full on smirk from Charles. It was his boss and he looked pretty nervous. He eyed Gavin when he explained which languages he spoke and sounded a lot like Vinteren. Hmm. That wasn't good for him. Whilst he didn't believe Gavin was the most professional man ever he didn't particularly want to see him fail. Moving in his seat he folded his hands on his lap and watched the next candidate step up.

His immediate impression of the woman was that she was confident and intelligent. One didn't just become a professor. It required dedication and the ability to put one's mind to the matter at hand. He was pleased that this woman was striving to further the graduate's knowledge and made a mental note to talk to her privately. He definitely wanted to know more about that because he was getting bored of dealing with under-educated people who could obviously do a lot better. Her comments on teamwork gained a small nod of approval from him. He liked that she'd remembered that. What he didn't like too much was that she said 'when' instead of 'if' and it seemed to him like she thought she had it 'in the bag'. His fingers interlocked as he stared at her while she made her way back to her seat.

The next candidate's shirt was way too distracting at first for Charles to pay much attention. He was sure that the man's shirt could only have been outdone in cringe-factor if it had been a Hawaiian shirt. When he was finally able to concentrate, he found that he liked what the man was saying. He seemed pretty sure of himself and it wasn't in the cocky Althea way either. A chuckle almost escaped him at the pep-talk-like speech he was giving. His eyes dropped to his hands which were set on the cards with questions on them and another smirk appeared. Okay, so it was his turn to speak now, right?

He raised his head and saw that some of the other candidates looked thoughtful and like they were mulling over the question. Okay, time to save them. Charles finally piped up. "Good evening ladies and gentleman, distinguished guests," he gave a nod to the Minister "And candidates. I am Charles Taylor from International Cooperation. I've noticed that many of you have stated your current occupations, of which some are extremely important jobs," he nodded to Gavin and Althea, acknowledging their department head jobs, "Therefore, the first question I put to those of you who've already answered your first question is: If a personal or professional situation arose at the same time as an equally important situation arose in the school, which would you deem more important to attend to first, and why?" He bowed his head to let them know they could start answering whenever they saw fit.

____

Questions:

Erik Vinteren, Roxanne Carter, Gavin Higareda, Althea Schirmer, Cooper Cope:

If a personal or professional situation arose at the same time as an equally important situation arose in the school, which would you deem more important to attend to first, and why? - Asked by Charles Taylor

All other candidates:

Why do you feel you are more qualified for this position than the other candidates? We want to hear about what sets you apart from the crowd. - Asked by Cassandra Rae-Branxton

YIKES!

Now that was a PEARLER of a question, for sure.
Cooper approached the front of the stage, still contemplating his response.
"In response to the question... I believe it's difficult to ascertain exactly what my actions would be in such a situation... but with that being said, my professional life is coming to the end, and the reason I have nominated myself for the Board of Governors is because THIS is what I want to do with the rest of my life." He paused here. To take a deep breath, and to ensure he didn't go confusing people with his words.
"I'm a community man, my profession, should you elect me for the Board, will be to serve the students, parents and families of Hogwartians. And that sense of progression, of achievement... and of making a difference for our future generations, is something I cannot fathom neglecting. I live a simple life, and any personal issues which arise are simply that... personal. But I assure you, it will remain personal, and will not inhibit my ability to be focused, professional and engaged with the duties I pledge to undertake."

He might have, that was true, but for now it was the judges. He smirked a bit at the President of the Board's reaction and noted that of Mr. Taylor's. He couldn't agree more. One didn't try to steal the spotlight when it didn't belong to you, especially when it belonged to him....and the other judges, sure.

He looked at the candidates seated there. Was it bad that he saw nothing particularly special about any of them? They were just people. People who got into politics for their own self-righteous reasons.

Yes, we heard you all say how much you loved the school and the students but in the end that didn't account for much now did it. People were all the same.

He shot a rather unimpressed look at the candidates who hadn't bothered to answer even a single question. How were they going to work for the board if they could barely answer a few simply questions. Then his gaze turned to the ones who had actually bothered to answer. Heh, from what he could tell many of them were a little too confident. Confidence was good but it suited him better, wouldn't you agree? No? Too bad.

Gavin reached for a card and smiled at it just a bit. This one obviously came from a concerned parent. That lot amused him with the way they thought worrying could make a situation any better or worse.

Sigh. Time for him to speak. "Hello everyone, My name's Gavin Isaacs, I work in the Department of Mysteries." Did he need to say more? This wasn't about him afterall as unfortunate as that was. He'd leave it at that. But that was only for those who had answered previously. Everyone else needed to search themselves and find a voice before this thing was over. Board of Governors, half these people? Right.

OOC: This is the third question and should only be answered by those who have answered the first two.

For those who answered the first questions: If a personal or professional situation arose at the same time as an equally important situation arose in the school, which would you deem more important to attend to first, and why?

No sooner had he sat down and started to think about what he had said, what he could have said, what he should have said... that another question was asked and required his response. This was certainly more INTENSE than the last debate. But that should have been expected.

Rising from his seat, being all MANLY like and MANLY, Cooper fronted up to the audience.

"As with all priorities, we have many, and I have a few which I think needs addressing."
Making eye contact with some of the people on the first row, he grinned toothily and continued.
"Firstly, safety, is a top priority... students and teaching staff alike have the right to participate in a safe environment... and the public have the right to know that they can send their children to Hogwarts without having to worry about accidents, curses, and strange going-ons impeding on their childs safety."

That was pretty much a stock standard response, and really, any candidate would be stupid not to put it at the top of the list.

"Secondly, I would prioritise the students education.... the quality that is expected by such a prestigious school, needs to be upheld, and we should strive to provide our students the BEST education possible." i.e. they should kick other institutions in the BUTT.

Of course, he hadn't really thought his last point through very well, but it meant a lot to him, so it had to be said.
"And lastly... we need to increase our awareness, our support and our recognition of muggle borns and mixed blood students in the school. Ensure that there is an emphasis not only on assisting them to engage with the ways of the Wizarding World, but for us to engage with the Muggle World and acknowledge their wonders in this ever changing world we live in. We can learn much from them, just as they can learn much from us."

PHEEWWW.

Coops returned to his seat, his hair was still NEAT and not at all FLUSTERED ... yet. Sitting with one leg crossed over the other, he looked down at his chest and traced a thick MANLY finger along the lengths of his brooch. Fancypants things they were.
