"Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to the Board of Governor's Candidate Debate. If the candidates could make their way on the stage please?"

Hearing the call for the candidates, Cooper ran his fingers through his hair, which he had neatly combed and styled into a SLEEEEEEK look. Yep. More professional, no? If he was to be honest, he felt like a newer, younger version of himself. Cooper was dressed in a complimenting salmonny orangeypink shade, with a clean cut black suit, shiny black shoes. If he hadn't had the brains to stick a shiny NNNEEEWWW brooch to his chest, he'd have felt like a stranger. Still.. his manager was happy with this look, right? RIGHT?!
This was it, and he was SOOOO looking forward to this next debate. Feeling confident he strode out on stage to receive the crowd, giving them GRINS and WAVES galore.

She opted not to shoo the man away with a casual flick of her hand, instead choosing to lift her chin and address the gathering audience as the candidates took their seats.

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Cassandra Rae-Branxton, and I am the President of the Board of Governors. I'm joined here today by several employees from the Ministry of Magic to moderate tonight's debate. Each candidate will respond to up to 9 questions at their own pace and in their own time, as we recognize that rapid fire questions don't suit everyone. Each candidate should answer the question as fully as possible; brevity is sometimes a virtue, but it can also make some look as if they don't have a sufficient answer. We ask candidates to hold off on responding to each other until they have answered all of their questions. The other moderators and I will take turns asking questions prepared by ourselves or submitted by a panel of concerned parents and community members."

The former Headmistress glanced at the cards in front of her for a long moment, gathering her thoughts before she turned a smile on the candidates gathered there. "You're all doing very well, and I can't wait to hear from you. Don't be nervous. Our first question of the evening is directed to all of you, so pleased step forward to the front of the stage to answer when you're ready and then take your seat again when finished. If you need more time, you can answer as quickly or slowly as you wish... don't be intimidated if your compatriots get ahead of you. This first question should be easy, as it's something you've been considering since you first tossed your hat in the ring so many months ago: Why do you feel you are more qualified for this position than the other candidates? We want to hear about what sets you apart from the crowd."

OOC: You're all on your own timeline here, and we won't wait for everyone to respond before providing new questions to those who are waiting. Please pay attention to YOUR questions, because they will be individualized very soon! You need to answer an average of one question per day to get to all of them, although if you answer faster, you get to respond to the answers of those who came before you - which is pretty exciting debate stuff! Good luck, have fun, be nice or we'll FROWN AT YOU SEVERELY.

Having sat himself down, a leg casually crossed over his knee, Cooper waited ever so patiently for the proceedings to get underway, and he wasn't disappointed.

For a first question, it was simple and complex enough.. though, he didn't like the term QUALIFIED. That was just BOGUS.

Awaiting his turn, Cooper rose from his seat with as gracefully as a MAN could, and strode confidently to the front of the stage, making eye contact with numerous guests in the crowd. This whole public speaking thing, wasn't so hard. After all, he'd been public speaking for a LONG time, only he sat in a cushy chair speaking at an inanimate object. Still... the principle was there.

"Ladies, Gentlemen... and distinguished guests..." he started, "I am Cooper Cope, freelance writer," because that's what he did most of in his time now, and entrepreneur just sounded BIGHEADED "...retired wireless personality and expert lifestyle commentator and a hopeful candidate for the Hogwarts Board of Governors..." He let the words roll from his tongue. Speaking really was such an easy feat. After all, he had a larger audience than this on the wireless, and he'd loved his listeners like family... and it was a LARGE family.
"I do not have any higher education qualifications to lend me credibility in a field which may or may not be relevant or useful for the purpose for which I am competing for... and while some might see that as a disadvantage, I do not... and I'll tell you why."

He was comfortable here, in the limelight, it was as if he were chatting with an old friend.

"You don't need someone with degrees in pot planting, book reading or paper pushing... you need someone who has the passion, the patience, the interest and the innovation to serve the students, the parents and families of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."
Cooper paused to give the audience a look of EMPOWERMENT. Because he felt empowered, he felt at home, he felt he had this.

"The skills I have acquired through countless years of networking, reporting, investigating and engaging in the social needs and lifestyle needs of our greater community, have led me to this path." It was true. The people, and THEIR needs, have led him here. It was for THEM that he was doing this.
"I have met many families, countless people, of all generations... and I hear them, I hear their voices. I am the PEOPLE PERSON, I am here, as a vessel, to serve you... the public! the HEART! and the SOUL! of our community."

"My willingness to listen to your needs, my approachability, my contacts in government, in education and in the media... will allow me to sharpen the effectiveness of the Board of Governors and will result in a better future for OUR future. A vote for me, is a vote for unity and a vote for the PEOPLE."

Ok. So it WAS a STUUPPIIDD question. Still... he was sort of on track... mmhhmm.

"There is no course on how to be a Board of Governors Member... there is only common sense, passion, patience and the DRIVE to contribute to the successful implementation of a safe and inspiring education which supports students in their journey... whichever path it is they choose to lead..." He paused here, for emphasis.
"And that... is why I am qualified to be your VOICE of reason." On the board... of course... that was obvious, no?

With a bow of his head, and a wave of his hand, he retreated to his seat. Feeling... positive.
