Okay this was getting a little bit confusing but it did not sound like anything he would not be able to do or understand if he properly paid enough attention. And that he was doing right now. Maturity number. Okay. So it was the number that told a lot about someone. Interesting. Now he started to wonder what his maturity number would be.

But first what the professor said. Opening his Arithmancy textbook, Richard stared at the page with the chapter six. ''On chapter six, it tells us about the Life Path Number, professor.'' he said and narrowed his eyes a bit as he tried to understood what was written there ''And...um...to calculate it we must add the year, month and day we were born all together. But i don't think i understand the method it is talking about here.''

Could she explain?

"Yes. The life path number uses the numbers in our birthday." She paused to write her birthday on the board:
APRIL 2, 2044
04 - 02 - 2044
"So you use the numerical equivalent for the month of your birth. And each of the components, you add together to create a single digit. The three single digits you will combine to one final product."
Life Path Number:
(4) + (2) + (2+0+4+4)
(4) + (2) + (10)
(4) + (2) + (1)

They could be manipulated in a million and seven different ways and the only things that Selina really knew what to do with them was add, subject, multiply and divide them. Everything else just made her head ache. It was like dealing with ickles all the time- she just had head aches.

Therefore, when Hadley asked her next question, Selina just drew her quill and waited for someone to say something- anything. And apparently the answer to the question was the maturity number. The redhead made sure to write that down. Maturity number. Good to know.

But then Hadley asked ANOTHER question that she did not know the answer to. She remembered now why she had always relied on Kurumi in this class. The seventh year was lost. How was it that students younger then her were so on top of this subject? All she could think of, which was not much, was the daunting idea that this class was only going to get more complicated as time went on. Arithmancy as a rule was a dizzying subject.

Raising her hand kind of slowly, because she was really hoping that Hadley did not notice her, she whispered, "Ma'am, I can't remember which one its for... but there is one calculation where you have to use all of the letters in your name." In fact, she was pretty sure that, you know, a lot of the calculations in Arithmancy used your name. Or was that wrong too?
"Yes. The Expression Number, or Destiny number, uses all the letters in one's name," Fina nodded at the seventh year. As several people repeated verbatim from the textbook.

SPOILER!!: Expression Number

"Using the full name listed on your birth certificate lay out your name and assign the appropriate number to each letter using the chart given in Chapter Two of this text figure each name separately then add the reduced total of each name first middles" Yes, middles, "and last then reduce that number to its single digit root number."

So, do maths basically.

He HAD been right about the careful. Go him. West flipped forward to the chapter on the Maturity one to see what the heck the Destiny one had to do with it.

So it wasw not the life path number - but the maturity number. Yeah that figures, thought Sarah, it kind of encompasses all. She began to flip through her text book to the various chapters.. which one should she talk about.

Sarah decided to turn to chapter seven, there was the expression destiny number - something which she knew the formula already, yet she briefly scanned it to make sure she knew it right. She then raised her hand "the expression or destiny number is calculated by taking all the names listed on your birth certificate, adding each one seperately and reducing each of the subtotals. Then add all the subtotals together making the total which you then reduce to a single digit. This is then your expression number, an explanation for each number is in the textbook"

"Professor, the number in chapter 7, the Expression/Destiny number, is calculated by adding together the numerical value of your full name separately, then reduce it before adding those three numbers together and reducing it once more," he said.

She nodded at the several students who ratted off about finding the Expression Number. "Though no one mentioned where you get the numerical values for the letters from. Which you can get it from either the Pythagorean System or the Chalden System. The Pythagorean is more commonly used and the system we will be using in today's lesson." Though some of them likely remembered the chaldean system from a couple terms ago.

"The pythagorean number system can be found in chapter two of your textbook, which as several of you mentioned, you find the expression number by assigning the numerical value to every letter in your full name." She went ahead and wrote her full name on the board for them as an example;
Expression Number:
JOSEPHINA FAITH HADLEY

(1+6+1+5+7+8+9+5+1) + (6+1+9+2+8) + (8+1+4+3+5+7)

"So as you can see it's very time consuming process to reduce and make sure your additions are accurate." And hopefully that made sense?

Since she had given the Maturity Number as her answer, she decided to attempt to answer how to calculate that. Raising her hand, she answered.

"Professor, the Maturity Number is calculated by using your birth Name plus your Birth Date. You can use either the Pythagorean Number System, or for a more accurate reading, the Chaldean Method to do your calculations."

She took a breath while trying to remember how the calculations worked.

"You add up the numbers of your birth name, each name having its own separate total. Then you start reducing each total until you get down to a single digit. Once you have that you add up all your subtotals together and repeat the reducing process until you end up with a single number.

You will do the same for the birth date. You get a subtotal for the day, month and year, and start reducing each total until you get to a single digit. Then you add the single digits together, using the reduction method process, until you end up with one single digit total.

Once you have both numbers reduced to a single digit, you add them both together and repeat the reducing process until you end up with one single digit number. That number is your Maturity Number.
"

Alyssa belatedly remembered that if either of her calculations ended with a master number that there was a different process to be used. So she continued with her explanation.

"In the event that either of your birth name or birth date ends up in a master number which is 11, 22 or 33, we stop reducing it to a single digit because master numbers have their own interpretations separate from the core numbers. "

There she had said it. Whether it made sense or not...or worse yet...whether her explanation was accurate, she would have to wait and see.
"So after you calculate your Life Path and Expression numbers, the next number that would be easier to figure out from there is your Maturity number," Fina nodded. "Which as Miss Potter said, it's your Life path number added to your Expression number. Mine are both seven..."

She paused to write this on the board as well:
Maturity Number:
Life Path + Expression
7 + 7
= 14
= 1+4
= 5

With a pout, Ness decided maybe a little bit of input was needed. She raised her hand and waited her turn. Chapter eight. She had skimmed through her book before raising her hand. "Professor, To find your Heart's Desire or your Soul Urge number you use your full name and apply the correct number to each vowel of your name. You then figure out each of your names separately , like your first, last and possibly middle ones too." This was a lot for Ness to say, she was never much of a speaker in class, she preferred to write sometimes. Today she had no choice but to explain herself thoroughly. "After that you add them all together and achieve a single digit number, you then use that number as your answer." That was correct right? The red head looked up at Hadley.
"Correct. Your soul urge is almost like calculating your expression number, except you only use the vowels in your name." she demonstrated this on the board as well;

She looked around the room, wondering about comprehension of the number calculations, before reaching into her top desk drawer and removing a shoe-box and placing it on her desk.

"So now that I've gone over the calculations, any questions before we begin the activity part of the lesson?" Which wasn't, despite what they might expect, simply crunching numbers.
