4. ANCIENT RUNES

Alyssa looked at what she had lying in front of her on the table.

"Ogham Staves. Each carved on twenty-five twigs from twenty five different trees."

"The Elder Futhark Runes. All twenty four of them, each carved into twenty four wooden squares."

"Carved by hand, using my Swiss Army Knife, and later stained with my blood to consecrate the ritual."

"But why did you do that, Mom?" Savannah asked her mother.

"For Ancient Runes, dear." Alyssa smiled at her daughter.

Savannah frowned looking at the pieces of wood. "Well, Mom, Mr. Ancient sure runed forty nine good pieces of wood."
